Iron objects become corroded at fast speed from the moment when they are excavated, so it is needed to control corrosion through processes of conservation treatment. However, re-corrosion mostly takes place in excavate iron objects, although they have already gone through the process of conservation treatment, and it is more difficult to carry out the second conservation treatment of re-corroded excavated iron objects than the first conservation treatment, and it requires a longer period of time to treat them as well. In this study, aims to discover factors of re-corrosion by scientifically analyzing corrosion products generated during the process of storage after the process of conservation treatment. The finished on conservation treatment of the iron artifacts, which were unearthed from three ancient site in Gyeongju by using the same conservation method between 2002 and 2009, re-corrosion condition observed on the packaging-iron artifacts. Focused on 9 target forged iron artifacts among them, this study analyzed the physical changes by mass measurement, naked-eye and microscopic observations and the chemical changes by SEM-EDS, XRD, IC and ICP analysis. The results show that the yellowish brown corrosion products formed on the facing surface of part dropped from the artifacts had different associated forms but acicular shape. In addition, the acicular shape became clearer as the color changed from red to yellowish brown. According to the process when the conservation treatment was completed, the mass of the artifacts increased in proportion to the corrosion products and the chloride ion ($Cl^-$) concentration had a tendency to increase relatively. ${\beta}$-FeOOH (akaganeite) was confirmed in the XRD analysis for the corrosion products of all the collected samples. As a result of ICP analysis, $Na^+$ and $Ca^{2+}$ components were confirmed.
A concrete silo plays an important role in subsurface low- and intermediate-level waste facilities (LILW) by limiting the release of radionuclides from the silo geosphere. However, due to several physical and chemical processes the performance of the concrete structure decreases over time and consequently the concrete loses its effectiveness as a barrier against groundwater inflow and the release of radionuclides. Although a number of processes are responsible for degradation of the silo concrete, it is determined that the main cause is corrosion of the reinforcing steel. Therefore, the time it takes for the silo concrete to fail is calculated based on two factors: the initiation time of corrosion, defined as the time it takes for chloride ions to penetrate through the concrete cover, and the propagation time of corrosion. This paper aims to estimate the time taken for concrete to fail in a LILW disposal facility. Based on the United States Department of Energy (DOE) approach, which indicates that concrete fails completely once 50% of the volume of the reinforcing steel corrodes, the corrosion propagation time is calculated to be 640 years, which is the time it takes for corrosion to penetrate 0.640 cm into the reinforcing steel. In addition to the corrosion propagation time, a diffusion equation is used to calculate the initiation time of corrosion, yielding a time of 1284 years, which post-dates the closure time of the LILW disposal facility if we also consider the 640 years of corrosion propagation. The electrochemical conditions of the passive rebar surface were modified using an acceleration method. This is a useful approach because it can reduce the test time significantly by accelerating the transport of chlorides. Using instrumental analysis, the physicochemical properties of corrosion products were determined, thereby confirming that corrosion occurred, although we did not observe significant cracks in, or expansion of, the concrete. These results are consistent with those of Smartet al., 2006 who reported that corrosion products are easily compressed, meaning that cracks cannot be discerned by eye. Therefore, it is worth noting that rebar corrosion does not strongly influence the hydraulic conductivity of the concrete.

A method for assessing fatigue vulnerability of steel bridge members considering corrosion and truck traffic variation with time is proposed to evaluate the reduction of fatigue strength in steel bridge members. A fatigue limit state function including corrosion and traffic variation effect is established. The interaction between the average corrosion depth and the fatigue strength reduction factor is applied to the limit state function as the reduction term of strength. Three types of truck traffic change is modeled for representing real traffic change trend. Monte-Carlo simulation method is used for reliability analysis which provides the data to obtain fatigue vulnerability curves. The estimation method proposed was verified by comparing with the results of reference study and applying to the steel bridges in service.
The grain boundary etching method as a technique for assessing degradation of structural materials used at elevated temperature has received much attention since it is simple, inexpensive and easy to apply to real plant components. In this study, the technique is applied to some aged petroleum and chemical plant components such as reactors and drums. As a degradation parameter, intersection number ratio ($N_i/N_o$), is employed. The intersection number ratio ($N_i/N_o$) is defined as the ratio of intersection number ($N_i$) obtained from 5-minute picric acid etched surface to the number ($N_o$) obtained from Nital etched surface. In order to study degradation level, several relationships were measured such as the correlation between shift in ductile brittle transition temperature, $({\Delta}DBTT)_{sp}$ and intersection number ratio, ($N_i/N_o$) and the correlation between the measured ($N_i/N_o$) values and Larson-Miller Parameter values.

The corrosion of structural steel used in the construction industry is increasing due to the industrialization where many aggressive ions released in the atmosphere. Therefore, in the present study Al coating was deposited by arc and plasma arc thermal spray process and compared their effectiveness in simulated weathering condition i.e. Society of Automotive Engineers(SAE) J2334 solution which mostly contain Cl- and CO32- ions. Different analytical techniques have been used to characterize the coating and draw the corrosion mechanism. The Al coating deposited by plasma arc thermal spray process exhibited uniform, dense and layer by layer deposition resulting higher bond adhesion values. The open circuit potential(OCP) of Al coating deposited this process is exhibited more electropositive values than arc thermal spray process in SAE J2334 solution with immersion periods. The total impedance of plasma arc thermal spray process exhibited higher than arc thermal spray process. The corrosion rate of the plasma arc thermal sprayed Al coating is reduced by 20% compared to arc thermal spray process after 23 days of immersion in SAE J2334 solution.

Hayeob pigment is known as one of the traditional dark green pigments, but the color, raw material, and manufacturing method have not been clearly identified. However, comparing the analysis results of the particle shape and constituent minerals of Hayeob pigments revealed through pigment analysis studies of colored cultural properties such as Dancheong, Gwaebul, and paintings, Hayeob pigments appear to be the same as Dongrok pigments produced by salt corrosion. Therefore, in order to restore Hayeob pigment, the manufacturing method of Dongrok pigment was studied based on the records of old literature. The Dongrok pigment manufacturing method confirmed in the old literature records is a natural corrosion method in which copper powder and a caustic are mixed and then left in a humid condition to corrode. Based on this, artificial corrosion using a corrosion tester was adopted to corrode the copper powder more efficiently, and an appropriate mixing ratio was selected by analyzing the state of corrosion products according to the mixing ratio of the caustic agent. In addition, the manufacturing method of Dongrok pigment was established by adding a salt removal process to remove residual caustic agents and a purification process to increase chroma during pigment coloring. The prepared Dongrok pigments have a bluish green or green color, show an elliptical particle shape and a form in which small particles are aggregated, and a porous surface is observed. The main constituent elements are copper(Cu) and chlorine(Cl), and the main constituent mineral is identified as atacamite [Cu2Cl(OH)3]. As a result of an accelerated weathering test to evaluate the stability of the prepared Dongrok pigments, it was found that the greenness partially decreased and the yellowness significantly increased as deterioration progressed. Before deterioration, the Dongrok pigments had lower yellowness compared to the Hayeob pigments of the old Dancheong, but after deterioration, yellowness increased significantly, and it was found to have a similar chromaticity range as Dancheong's Hayeob pigments. As a result, the prepared Dongrok pigments were confirmed to be similar to Dancheong's Hayeob pigments in terms of color as well as particle shape and constituent minerals.

Material and Method: Esophageal reconstruction by the hypopharyngointestinal anastomosis was done in 7 patients of corrosive upper esophageal stricture at St. Mary's Hospital from August 1995 to January 1997. Result: There were one male and six female patients ranging from 20 to 63 years of age. The causative agents were acid in 6 patients and alkali in 1 patient. The esophageal reconstruction was made by hypopharyngcolojejunostomy in 4 patients and hypopharyngocologastrostomy in 3 patients. There were no operative mortalities. One patient developed anastomotic stenosis but others were free from dysphagia. All gained 4 kg to 13 kg of body weight during the follow-up period. Conclusion: In this experience right colon and terminal ileum including ileocecal valve was revealed as a good substitute for the esophagus and the esophageal reconstruction by hypopharyngocologastro (jejuno)stomy seems to be a satisfactory method with acceptable morbidity and mortality in corrosive upper esophageal stricture patient.
The present study concerns quantitative assessment of chloride extraction, repassivation and structural behavior of concrete. Concrete specimen ($160{\times}160{\times}1000mm$) was fabricated with 3 steel bar located in the middle with 20 mm of the cover depth, containing 5.0% of chloride to accelerate corrosion process, then to be subjected to electrochemical treatment. The current density accounted for $750mA/m^2$ at 2, 4 and 8 weeks. As a result, it was found that an increase in the duration of the treatment resulted in an increase in the chloride extraction, accounting for 64.7-83.7% for the specimen at 8 weeks treatment. It implies that a portion of bound chlorides would turn free to be removed, considering the binding capacity of cement about 50-60% to total ones. Even after the treatment, the corrosion was still active; the corrosion rate was $6.5mA/m^2$ and 330 mV vs. SCE in the potential. For structural behavior, the maximum load was increased by corrosion on the steel bars, which was subsequently lowered by the treatment, but still higher than for control.

Marine bridges are readily deteriorated due to the exposure to marine environment. The concrete deterioration occurred by corrosion of steel in concrete is mainly relevant to chloride in seawater. Chloride ions penetrate through porous concrete, and then reach to the reinforcing steel, and finally corroded them. The corrosion by-products(rusts) increase the volume as much as 6 to 10 times of origin steel. this creates expanding pressure and tensile stress, which cause the structures cracking and spalling. Sometimes the rebar corrosion is accelerated, and then collapsed catastrophically. In order to prevent corrosion damage, it is important to understand well regarding the reason of concrete corrosion, the quantification of its damage, and protection method/system to stop or to mitigate the corrosion. In this study, slab specimens were fabricated to evaluate the effect of cathodic protection which was simulated to marine bridges, and/or port structures. Zn-mesh sacrificial anode has been applied as a chathodic protection system and accelerated test conditions, i.e. temperature and salt concentration have been used in this study.
