기계화학공정을 이용한 Perovskite 구조의 (Pb, La)$TiO_3$ 나노 분말 합성 및 특성 (Synthesis and characterization of perovskite nano-sized (Pb, La)$TiO_3$ powder using mechano chemical process)

  • 기계화학공정(MCP; Mechano Chemical Process)은 원료 분말이 기계적인 에너지로 인해 상 형성이 활성화되기 때문에 기존의 볼밀링을 이용한 고상반응에서 필수적인 높은 온도에서의 하소 공정이 필요하지 않다. 본 연구에서는 고 에너지 MCP 방법을 이용하여 perovskite 구조를 가지는 PLT 나노 분말을 제조하였다. 특히, 일반적으로 출발물질로 염을 이용하는 것과 달리 산화물을 원료 분말로 사용하여 어떠한 열처리 공정 없이 PLT 나노 분말을 합성하였다. 또한 건식으로 밀링을 하여 분말 건조 공정이 필요 없어서 공정이 간단하다. MCP 밀링은 시간 별로 12시간까지 진행하였으며, 제조된 분말의 상 분석과 결정면 분석 결과 3시간 이후에는 perovskite 구조의 순수한 PLT 상을 형성하였다. 또한 마이크로 크기의 원료 분말이 밀링 3시간이 지나자 약 20 nm 크기의 균일한 나노 입자가 생성되었다.

  • $CoAl_2O_4$는 열적 및 화학적으로 매우 안정한 물질이며 독특한 광학적 특성으로 인해 도자기 제품, 유리, 페인트, 플라스틱을 장식하는 세라믹 착색제로 사용되어져 왔다. 본 연구에서는 착체중합법(Polymerized complex method)과 고상합성법(Solid state reaction)을 이용하여 단상의 $CoAl_2O_4$ 청색 무기 안료를 합성하였고, 잉크젯 프린팅용 잉크로의 응용 시 노즐 막힘 및 분산안정성과 같은 문제점을 방지하기 위해 고에너지 밀링 공정 중 하나인 어트리션밀을 이용하여 입자를 미세화하였다. 밀링 공정은 직경 1 mm의 지르코니아 볼을 이용하여 BPR(Ball to powder weight ratio) 100 : 1, 800 rpm의 조건에서 3시간 동안 진행되었다. 합성된 안료는 XRD, FE-SEM, TEM, PSA, 그리고 CIE $L^*a^*b^*$ 측정을 통하여 어트리션밀링 전후의 특성을 분석하였다. XRD 측정 결과 단상의 $CoAl_2O_4$ 청색 무기 안료가 합성되었고, 고에너지 밀링 공정을 통하여 100~200 nm의 입자 크기를 가지는 청색 나노 무기 안료를 얻었다.

볼밀링에서 볼 배합비 선택을 위한 혼합물 실험계획 및 분석 (Design and Analysis of Mixture Experiments for Ball Mix Selection in the Ball Milling)

  • Purpose: Ball milling is a popular process for obtaining fine powders in the part and material industry. One of important issues in the ball milling is to produce particles with a uniform size. Although many factors affect uniformity of particles, this paper focuses on the choice of ball diameter. Consider a ball milling where balls can be taken with three different diameters. The purpose of this paper is to find a ball mix which minimizes the average particle size. Methods: Ball diameters are selected as 10mm, 3mm, and 0.5mm. In order to find an optimum mixing ratio, the method of mixture experiments is employed in this paper. Taguchi's signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for smaller-the-better type is also used to analyze experimental data. Results: According to the experimental result, SNR is maximized when the ball mix is taken as either 7:3:0 or 6:4:0. Such mixing ratios can be technically validated in terms of porosity reduction. Conclusion: The ball mixing technique presented in this paper provides a useful way to improve the production efficiency with a low cost.

삼중수소 증식 재료 개발을 위한 Li4SiO4 분말합성

  • 핵융합의 고체형 증식(Helium Cooled Solid Breeder : HCSB) 블랑켓(Blanket Module)은 삼중수소 증식을 위해서 Li4SiO4, Li2TiO3, Li2O 및 Li2ZrO3 등의 페블이 고려되고 있다. 이러한 페블을 제조하기 위해서는 먼저 각각의 분말 제조가 선행되어야 한다. 한국의 Test Blanket Module(TBM)은 Li4SiO4 페블을 개발을 개발하여 사용할 예정이고 옵션으로 Li2TiO3 페블을 개발하는 것으로 되어 있다. Li4SiO4 페블을 개발하기 위해서 먼저 분말합성이 필수적이다. Li4SiO4 분말을 합성에 하기 위해서는 Lithium 금속염과 실리카 졸을 용매 및 폴리머 캐리어로서의 두 가지 기능을 하는 에틸렌글리콜에 첨가한 후 가열하여 완전히 용해시킨 후 혼합 용액을 건조시켜 겔형의 전구체를 제조한다. 이를 하소한 후 결정화시켜 Silicate 분말을 얻는데 이때의 건조, 하소 및 결정화 온도의 조건에 따른 분말의 크기 및 특성이 각각 다르다. 즉, 바인더 물질의 비율과 합성온도에 따라 특성이 약간씩 다른 분말을 얻을 수 있었다. 이렇게 얻어진 Silicate 분말은 지르코니아 볼을 이용하여 약 24 시간 동안 볼 밀링 과정을 통해 입도가 작은 미세한 Silicate 분말로 만들었다. 합성된 분말은 여러 가지 시험 및 분석을 통해서 검증되었으며, 불순물 등은 관찰되지 않았다.

볼 엔드밀에 의한 정밀 가공에 관한 연구 (A stydy on the precision machining in ball end milling system)

  • Cutter deflections in the ball-end milling process is one of the main causes of the machining errors on a free-form surface. In order to avoid machining errors in this process, a methodology avoiding these machining errors on the free-form surfaces has been developed. In this method, feedrates in the finish cuts are adjusted for the prevention of machining errors. A model for the prediction of machining errors on the free-form surface is analytically derived as a function of feed and normal vector at the surface of contact point by the cutter. This model is applied to the dertermination of the adjusted feedrates which satisfy the machining tolerance of the surface. In the finish cuts of a simple curved surface, the suggested model is examined by the measurements of the generated machining error on this surface. And also, this surface is machined with the adjusted feedrates for the given machining tolerance. The measured machining errors on this surface are compared with the given tolerance. In this comparisons, it is shown that the predicted errors are fairly good agreement with the test results.

단일벽 탄소 나노튜브의 길이와 지름에 따른 분류 (Separation of Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes by Length and Diameter)

  • The sonication mettled is widely used with surfactants to suspend individual single-walled carbon nanotubes in solution, and it is well known that sonication-induced tube cutting occurs. Recently, it is found out that ultrasonicated nanotubes yield simultaneous separation by tube length and diameter. Nanotubes that have been cut shortest possess the greatest enrichments of large-diameter species. In this study, single-walled carbon nanotubes are cut using a ball milling method. Similar fracture behavior is observed fur the ball milled nanotubes: i.e., large diameter tubes are cut shorter. The ability to separate carbon nanotubes by diameter and length will contribute to tile development of nanotube-based applications.

  • The effects of Ti addition on microstructure and mechanical properties of (Al+Xat.%Ti)2at%B (X=0.5, 1, 2) fabricated by mechanical alloying and spark plasma sintering (SPS) were investigated. These alloys were prepared by high energy ball milling (attritor) and then fracture toughness was investigated by using a charpy impact tester. The SPS method was used to consolidate (Al+Xat.%Ti)fat.%B with the pressure of 50MPa. The powders were successfully consolidated to alloy which the theoretical density is 99%. It was confirmed that the fracture toughness of Al-Bat.% matrix composites was increased by the addition of Ti.

볼 엔드밀 공정에서 공구변형 예측에 관한 연구 (Prediction of Tool Deflection in Ball-end Milling Process)

  • A new measuring method for tool deflection has been developed when sculptured surface is processed in ball-end milling. Since the vibration due to cutting forces has low frequencies, an electromagnetic sensor is used for measuring the exact vibration displacement. The amplitude and direction of vibration displacement during the cutting process is presented as orbital plot. In this study, it assumes that the vibration displacement is proportional to the length of cutting chip. Therefore, tool deflection is calculated by summing up the vibration displacement of unit chip length for engaged chip length. In addition, computer programs has been developed to predict the deflection of tools when machining sculptured surface. This developed program predicts the tool deflection per block of NC data, so that it can easily identify the parts which have the possibility of machining errors.

볼밀링한 W-20wt%Cu 분말로 제조된 금속사출성형 부품의 조밀화 (Densification of Metal Injection Molding Parts Made of Ball Milled W-20%Cu Powders)

  • An investigation was carried out on the possibility whether the ball-milling process of low energy could successfully improve the packing density and flowability for MIM application in W-20wt%Cu system. In this study, W-20wt%Cu powder mixture was prepared by ball-milling. W powder was not fractured by low mechanical impact energy used in the present work during the critical ball-milling time, but the ductile Cu powder was easily deformed to the 3 dimensional equiaxed shape, having the particle size similar to that of W powder. The ball-milled mixture of W-20wt%Cu powder had the more homogeneous distribution of each component and the higher amount of powder loading for molding than the simple mixture of W-Cu powder with an irregular shape and a different size. Accordingly, the MIM W(1.75)-20wt%Cu powder compacts were able to be sintered to the relative density of 99% by sintering at $1400^{\circ}C$ for one hour.

고에너지볼밀링을 이용한 MnFeP1-xAsx 나노분말의 합성 (Synthesis of MnFeP1-xAsx Nanocrystalline Powders by High-Energy Ball Milling)

  • Nanocrystalline powders of $MnFeP_{1-x}As_x$(x=0.45-0.6) have been synthesized by mechanochemical reaction at room temperature using high-energy ball milling from mixtures of Mn, Fe, P, and As Powders. It has been found that a mechanically induced self-propagating reaction (MSR) occurs within 2 hours of milling and it produces very fine polycrystalline powder having a hexagonal $Fe_2P$ structure. Further milling up to 24 hours did not change the crystalline and average particle sizes or the phase composition of the milling product. When x is 0.65, no reaction among the reactants has been observed even after 24 hours of milling. As the P content decreases in $MnFeP_{1-x}As_x$, the incubation time for the MSR has increased and the lattice constants in both a and c axes have changed.
