  • This paper presents a dynamic modeling and a robust PID controller design process for the wire bonder head assembly. For the modeling elements, the system is divided into electrical system, magnetic system, and mechanical system. Each system is modeled by using the bond graph method. The PID controller is used for high speed/high accuracy position control of the wire bonder assembly. The Taguchi method is used to evaluate the more robust PID gain combinations. This study makes use of an L18 array with three parameters varied on three levels. Computer simulations and experimental results show that the designed PID controller provides more improved signal to noise ratio and reduced sensitivity than the conventional PID controller.

  • Multi-domain engineering systems include electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and thermal components, making it difficult to design a system because of their complexity and inter domain nature. In order to obtain an optimal design, a unified design approach for each domain and an automated search method are required. This paper suggests a method for automatically synthesizing designs for multi-domain systems using the combination of bond graph that is domain independent and genetic programming that is well recognized as a powerful tool for open-ended search. To investigate the effect of proposed approach, an eigenvalue design problem is tested for some sample target sets of eigenvalues with different embryos.

  • In the area of assembly process of micro-chips and electronic parts on the printed circuit board, surface mounting device(SMD) is used as a fundamental tool. Generally speaking, the motion of the SMD is based on the ball screw system operated by any type of actuators. The ball screw system is a mechanical transformed which converts the mechanical rotational motion to the translational one. Also, this system could be considered as an efficient motion device against mechanical backlash and friction. Therefore a dynamic modeling and state sensitivity analysis of the ball screw system in SMD have to be done in the initial design stage. In this paper, a simple mathematical dynamic model for this system and the sensit- ivity analysis are mentioned. Especially, the bond graph approach is used for graphical modeling of the dynamic system before analysis stage. And the direct differentiation method is used for the state sensit- ivity analysis of the system. Finally, some trends for the state variables with respect to the design variables could be suggested for the better design and faster operating based on the results of dynamic and state sensitivity.

  • Environmental regulations are becoming more stringent in response to climate change, especially concerning marine pollution caused by ship emissions. Large ships are adjusting by integrating technologies to reduce pollutant emissions and transitioning to eco-friendly fuels such as low-sulfur oil and LNG. However, small ships face space constraints for installing LNG propulsion systems and the risk of power depletion with pure electric propulsion. Consequently, there's growing interest in researching hybrid propulsion methods that combine electricity and diesel for smaller vessels. Hybrid propulsion systems utilize diverse energy sources, requiring an effective method for evaluating their efficiency. This study proposes employing Bond graph modeling to comprehensively analyze energy dynamics within hybrid propulsion systems, facilitating better understanding and optimization of their efficiency. Modeling of the ship's energy system using Bond graphs will be able to provide a framework for integrating various energy sources and evaluating their effects.

  • Toluene is currently used as a major organic solvent of glues which are abused by the youngster for its hallucinogenic effect. In this study, toluene determination method using headspace gas chromatography (HS-GC) in the biological fluids like blood, urine and saliva of glue sniffers was validated and related uncertainties were estimated. LOD of $0.01{\mu}g/mL$ in saliva and LOQ of $0.1{\mu}g/mL$ in blood were the highest among LODs and LOQs in urine, blood and saliva. Other performance characteristics such as linearity, working range, accuracy, precision and recovery were also measured. The uncertainty at toluene concentration of $1{\mu}g/mL$ was estimated to be 0.13, 0.09 and $0.17{\mu}g/mL$ for blood, urine and saliva, respectively, and the uncertainty contribution from the least linear regression was dominant at the lower concentration of toluene.
