Object Contour Tracking Using an Improved Snake Algorithm (개선된 스네이크 알고리즘을 이용한 객체 윤곽 추적)

  • The snake algorithm is widely adopted to track objects by extracting the active contour of the object from background. However, it fails to track the target converging to the background if there exists background whose gradient is greater than that of the pixels on the contour. Also, the contour may shrink when the target moves fast and the snake algorithm misses the boundary of the object in its searching window. To alleviate these problems, we propose an improved algorithm that can track object contour more robustly. Firstly, we propose two external energy functions, the edge energy and the contrast energy. One is designed to give more weight to the gradient on the boundary and the other to reflect the contrast difference between the object and background. Secondly, by computing the motion vector of the contour from the difference of the two consecutive frames, we can move the snake pointers of the previous frame near the region where the object boundary is probable at the current frame. Computer experiments show that the proposed method is more robust to the complicated background than the previously known methods and can track the object with fast movement.

  • This paper presents a robust vehicle detection and tracking algorithm for supervision of illegal parking. The proposed algorithm is composed of four parts. First, a vehicle detection algorithm is proposed using the improved codebook object detection algorithm to segment moving vehicles from the input sequence. Second, a preprocessing technique using the geometric characteristics of vehicles is employed to exclude non-vehicle objects. Then, the detected vehicles are tracked by an object tracker which incorporates histogram tracking method with Kalman filter. To make the tracking results more accurate, histogram tracking results are used as measurement data for Kalman filter. Finally, Real Stop Counter (RSC) is introduced for trustworthy and accurate performance of the stopped vehicle detection. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can track multiple vehicles simultaneously and detect stopped vehicles successfully in the complicated street environment.

  • In this paper, we propose the hardware architecture of two-dimensional discrete wavelet transform (2D DWT) and quantization for using JPEG2000. Color 2-D DWT processor is proposed that is to apply to JPEG 2000 Hard-wired Encoder. JPEG 2000 DWT processor uses the Daubechies' (9,7) bi-orthogonal filter, and we design by minimizing error of the DWT transformer by ${\pm}1$ LSB during compression and decompression. We designed the DWT filters that using by using shift and adder structure instead of multiplier structure which raise the hardware complexity. It is improve the operation speed of filters and reduce the hardware complexity. The proposed system is designed by the hardware description language Verilog-HDL and verified by Synopsys Design Analyzer using TSMC 0.25${\mu}m$ ASIC library.

  • In this paper, we present a distortion correction for wearable Augmented Reality (AR) on mobile phones. Head Mounted Display (HMD) using mobile phones, such as Samsung Gear VR or Google's cardboard, introduces lens distortion of the rendered image to user. Especially, in case of AR the distortion is more complicated due to the duplicated optical systems from mobile phone's camera and HMD's lens. Furthermore, such distortions generate mismatches of the visual cognition or perception of the user. In a natural way, we can assume that transparent wearable displays are the ultimate visual system which generates the least misperception. Therefore, the image from the mobile phone must be corrected to cancel this distortion to make transparent-like AR display with mobile phone based HMD. We developed a transparent-like display in the mobile wearable AR environment focusing on two issues: pincushion distortion and field-of view. We implemented our technique and evaluated their performance.

  • 본 연구는 현장에서 측정되는 수질데이터를 실시간 수집하여 데이터의 적절성을 모니터링하고 모형입력자료로써 신뢰성을 유지하도록 구성되는 시스템과 이를 2차원 수질 해석 모형인 CE-QUAL W2모형의 입력자료로 연계 활용함으로써 그 결과를 그래프 및 하천 변화 모의 동영상으로 표출하는 시스템을 개발하는데 그 목적이 있다. 수질 모형은 물 관련 모형가운데 특히 다량의 자료와 정확한 자료를 입력자료로 사용하며 그 결과 표출에 있어서도 전체적인 결과부터 세밀한 요소자료까지 결과자료가 필요하다. 본 연구에서 개발한 RTMMS(Real-time Turbidity Monitoring & Modeling System)는 현장 계측기로부터 수집되는 실시간 자료를 이용하여 데이터를 모니터링하고 CE-QUAL W2 모형을 이용하여 모델링을 수행한 후 결과를 그래프로 도출 할 수 있도록 하는 시스템이다. 특히 일반적인 어플리케이션의 GUI 환경에서 벗어나 일반 사용자들이 쉽게 프로그램을 사용할 수 있고 공간 활용도를 높이기 위하여 웹 형식의 GUI로 구성하였다. RTMMS는 기본 크기가 가로 800 픽셀, 세로 600 픽셀로 고정 사이즈이며, 주요 화면 구성으로는 좌측에 네 개의 항목이 있고 우측에는 실시간 모니터링 지점에 대한 유역도가 표시되어 사용자 편의환경을 제공하였다. 사용자는 해당 지점을 선택하여 주요 지점에 대한 정보를 분석할 수 있다. 또한 우측에는 선택된 지점에 대한 정보와 실시간 감시 내용을 조회할 수 있는 탭이 존재한다. 각각의 메뉴 항목은 주요지점의 모니터링 현황을 파악할 수 있는 기능, 수질모형의 입력자료로 변환하도록 하는 자료 동화 기능, CE-QUAL W2 모형을 수행하는 기능 및 결과자료를 분석하는 기능으로 구성되어 있으며, 각 기능을 선택하면 해당 화면으로 GUI가 전환된다. 따라서 다량의 측정자료의 신뢰성을 유지하고 이를 모형의 입력자료로 활용하는 일련의 과정을 시스템화하기 때문에 자료의 이상적 유지 관리가 이루어지며 복잡한 2차원 수질해석 모형을 수월하게 운영할 수 있는 시스템으로 개발하였다.

An Efficient Search Method for Binary-based Block Motion Estimation (이진 블록 매칭 움직임 예측을 위한 효율적인 탐색 알고리듬)

  • Motion estimation using one-bit transform and two-bit transform reduces the complexity for computation of matching error; however, the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) is degraded. Modified 1BT (M1BT) and modified 2BT (M2BT) have been proposed to compensate degraded PSNR by adding conditional local search. However, these algorithms require many additional search points in fast moving sequences with a block size of $16{\times}16$. This paper provides more efficient search method by preparing candidate blocks using the number of non-matching points (NNMP) than the conditional local search. With this NNMP-based search, we can easily obtain candidate blocks with small NNMP and efficiently search final motion vector. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm not only reduces computational complexity, but also improves PSNR on average compared with conventional search algorithm used in M1BT, M2BT and AM2BT.

Color Landmark Based Self-Localization for Indoor Mobile Robots (이동 로봇을 위한 컬러 표식 기반 자기 위치 추정 기법)

  • We present a simple artificial landmark model and robust landmark tracking algorithm for mobile robot localization. The landmark model, consisting of symmetric and repetitive color patches, produces color histograms that are invariant under the geometric and photometric distortions. A stochastic approach based on the CONDENSATION tracks the landmark model robustly even under the varying illumination conditions. After the landmark detection, relative position of the mobile robot to the landmark is calculated. Experimental results show that the proposed landmark model is effective and can be detected and tracked in a clustered scene robustly. With the tracked single landmark, we extract geometrical information than achieve accurate localization.

  • A real-time frame-layer rate control algorithm with a token bucket traffic shaper is proposed for low bit rate video coding. The proposed rate control method uses a non-iterative optimization method for low computational complexity, and performs bit allocation at the frame level to minimize the average distortion over an entire sequence as well as variations in distortion between frames. In order to reduce the quality fluctuation, we use a sliding window scheme which does not require the pre-analysis process. Therefore, the proposed algorithm does not produce time delay from encoding, and is suitable for real-time low-complexity video encoder. Experimental results indicate that the proposed control method provides better visual and PSNR performances than the existing rate control method.

  • Among many other CG generated natural scenes, the representation of ocean surfaces is one of the most complicated and time-consuming problem because of its large extent and complex surface movement. We present a hybrid method to represent and animate unbound deep-water ocean surfaces by utilizing graphics processor as both simulation and rendering core. Our technique is mainly based on spectral approaches that generate a high-detailed height field using Fourier transform on a 2D regular grid. Additionally, we incorporate Gerstner model and generate low-detailed height field on a 2D projected grid in order to represent large waves and main structure of ocean surface. There is no interruption between CPU and GPU, and no need to transfer simulation results from the system memory to graphics hardware because the entire simulation and rending processes are done on graphics processor. As a result we can synthesize and render realistic water surfaces in real-time. Proposed techniques are readily adoptable to real-time applications such as computer games that have heavy work load on CPU but still demand plausible natural scenes.

Computational Hemodynamics in the Intracranial Aneurysm Model (뇌동맥류 모델에 대한 혈류역학 해석)

  • The intracranial aneurysm model is extracted based on the Computed Tomography (CT) scan images. Computational fluid dynamics simulations were conducted under both steady and realistic flow conditions in ANSYS-FLUENT. The minimum wall shear stress in the intracranial aneurysm tended to occur in the aneurysmal region. The magnitude of wall shear stress along inner wall of the curvature in the right M1 segment of middle cerebral artery is approximately 20 times higher than that along both the proximal and distal walls. However, the magnitudes of the wall shear stress at the aneurysm region were considerably low. The blood flow has the complex distribution in the aneurysmal region during the systolic period. Complex helical flow patterns are observed inside the aneurysm. Through an analysis of the hemodynamic characteristics, one may predict the rupture of the cerebral aneurysms.
