  • It is very difficult to restore the images degraded by motion blur and additive noise. In conventional methods, regularization usually applies to all the images without considering local characteristics of the images. As a result, ringing artifacts appear in the edge regions and noise amplification is in the flat regions, as well. To solve these problems, we propose an adaptive iterative regularization method, using the way of regularization operator considering edge directions. In addition, we suggest an adaptive regularization parameter and an relaxation parameter. In conclusion, We have verified that the new method shows the suppression of the noise amplification in the flat regions, also does less ringing artifacts in the edge regions. Furthermore, it offers better images and improves the quality of ISNR, comparing with those of conventional methods.

  • As the technology of the digital information age has developed rapidly, lots of research has been done on the digital image processing techniques, such as the image restoration. However, the SM(Standard Median) filter is a typical method of recovering the image which are corrupted by the impulse noise, this method will also reduce the quality of image by generating an error in the edge region. In this paper, in order to restore the corrupted images in the impulse noise environment, a modified median filter algorithm is proposed, which uses the pixels as the center and takes double mask. By using the double mask, we are succeeded in acquiring the excellent performance on noise-canceling, edge preservation, and also in improving the quality of image.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive MAP (Maximum A Posteriori) high-resolution image reconstruction algorithm using local statistics. In order to preserve the edge information of an original high-resolution image, a visibility function defined by local statistics of the low-resolution image is incorporated into MAP estimation process, so that the local smoothness is adaptively controlled. The weighted non-quadratic convex functional is defined to obtain the optimal solution that is as close as possible to the original high-resolution image. An iterative algorithm is utilized for obtaining the solution, and the smoothing parameter is updated at each iteration step from the partially reconstructed high-resolution image is required. Experimental results demonstrate the capability of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper presents a digital auto-focusing algorithm using iterative unsharp mask filter. The proposed digital auto-focusing algorithm has the advantage of low computational complexity because it uses a simple filter instead of calculating the point spread function for the estimation of image degradation. The proposed iterative algorithm can control the number of iterations for image restoration according to the objective and the subjective criterion. We show that the proposed algorithm is mathematically equivalent to the conventional image restoration. Finally, in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, various experiments are performed so that the proposed algorithm can provide good results in the sense of subjective and objective views.

  • By using an adaptive threshold and weight based on the wavelet transform and Haar transform, a novel image enhancement algorithm is proposed. First, a medical image was decomposed with wavelet transform and all high-frequency sub-images were decomposed with Haar transform. Secondly, noise in the frequency domain was reduced by the proposed soft-threshold method. Thirdly, high-frequency coefficients were enhanced by the proposed weight values in different sub-images. Then, the enhanced image was obtained through the inverse Haar transform and wavelet transform. But the pixel range of the enhanced image is narrower than a normal image. Lastly, the image's histogram was stretched by nonlinear histogram equalization. Experiments showed that the proposed method can be not only enhance an image's details but can also preserve its edge features effectively.

  • Degradation is occurred in the process of the signal transmission in the image processing system due to various reasons. Degradation is noise addition in the image signal and the representative one to cause degradation is salt and pepper noise. Therefore, image restoring filter was suggested in this article to apply and process weighted value by the changes of each directional pixel upon breakdown of local mask with 8 directions in order to restore the damaged image in the environment of salt and pepper noise. In addition, peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) was used to compare the existing method as the objective determinant standard of the improvement effect.

  • This paper presents a superresolution demosaicing technique that can restore high-resolution color image from differently blurred low resolution images in Bayer domain. The proposed superresolution demosaicing algorithm uses an aperture mask wheel to get differently blurred low resolution images, so we just need to estimate point spread function at each frame. In addition, it does not require image registration because there is no translational motion between low resolution images. By using a rotatable aperture mask wheel, consecutive captured images provide sufficiently exclusive information for superresolution. Therefore, the proposed method can reduce the registration error between the low-resolution image as well as the calculation amount for superresolution restoration. The existing lens system of the camera can be extended to obtain a superresolution image by only adding an rotatable aperture mask wheels. Finally, in order to verify the performance of the proposed system, experimental results are performed. The proposed method showed the significant improvements in the sense of spatial and color resolution.

  • The skin color has been used as important cues in the systems for detecting or recognizmg the face. However, the color difference in images under different illuminants makes it difficult to find out the skin in these systems. For solving the problem, this paper proposes a method of recovering skin colors based on well-known color constancy approaches, such as Retinex, Gray World, White Patch, and Simplified Horn. To acquire experimental images under the colored scene illumination, the effects of colored illuminants were added to source images. Next, result images, having the corrected skin color by the constancy methods, were derived from the source images. The experiment results showed that most of the skin colors in our experiments were recovered into some steady range in the color space, and that Gray World had higher performance than the other methods compared.
