  • In this study, eleven reinforced concrete beams, without stirrup, using high ductile fiber-reinforced mortar with ground granulated blast furnace slag(SHF Series, SHFSC Series) and standard specimens without or with stirrup(SSS, BSS) were constructed and tested under monotonic loading. Experimental programs were carried out to improve and evaluate the shear performance of such test specimens, such as the load-displacement, the failure mode, the maximum strength, and shear strength. All the specimens were modeled in scale-down size. Test results showed that test specimens(SHF Series, SHFSC Series) was increased respectively the shear strength carrying capacity by 26%, 20% and the ductility capacity by 5.27, 5.75 times in comparison with the standard specimen without stirrup(SSS). And the specimens(SHF Series, SHFSC Series) showed enough ductile behavior and stable flexural failure.

  • In this paper, a bundled diagonal reinforcement using high performance steel fiber was proposed to enhance the construct ability and seismic performance. Experiments of coupling beam was composed of four specimens and the hysteretic behavior evaluated for reverse cyclic loading to specimens using high performance steel fiber. The main variables of the experiment is a amount of stirrup and bundled reinforcement, depending on whether the mix of steel fiber. Specimen which criteria was applied 100% of stirrup and bundled diagonal reinforcement of ACI318 criteria. With this, by appling same diagonal reinforcement, two specimens were created by adjusting stirrup of 75%, 50%. So, a total of four specimens were produced. When coupling beam was placed concrete, this experiment was mixed in a content of steel fiber 1%. All the specimens were produced by aspect ratio 3.5(l/h=1050/300) to a half-scale. In this result, two specimens as reduced to stirrup of 75%, 50% was no significant difference in the strength, stiffness and energy dissipation capacity, respectively compared to the stirrup of 100%.

  • In this study, experimental research was carried out to evaluate the structural performance of the reinforced concrete beam using strengthening materials (embedded FRP rod, metal fittings) in existing reinforced concrete buildings. Seven reinforced concrete beams comprised of retrofitted embedded FRP rod (BCR series), embedded FRP rod with metal fittings (BCR-AC series), and standard specimen (BSS) were constructed and tested under monotonic loading. Design parameters of test specimens were amount of embedded FRP rod and metal fittings. The test results showed that the maximum load carrying capacity of specimens with embedded FRP rod (BCR series) and embedded FRP rod with metal fittings (BCR-AC series) increased by 21~55% and 21~63%, respectively, in comparison with the standard specimen BSS. BCR series test specimens failed by the adhesion slip and concrete cover separation. BCR-AC series test specimens failed by the adhesion slip due to the confining effect of metal fittings.

  • This paper presents experimental and analytical results on the long-term behavior of the reinforced recycled aggregate concrete beams under sustained loading. In this experimental program, three beams with different conditions of aggregates replacement (natural aggregate 100%, recycled coarse aggregate 100%, recycled fine aggregate 50%) were subjected to the sustained flexural loading that was a half of the nominal flexural capacity over a period of 1 year. The beam were designed with net span of 2,000 mm and rectangular cross-section of 170 mm width and 170 mm effective depth. The beams were instrumented and monitored to observe the change in the long-term behavior due to creep and shrinkage of concrete under sustained loading. The predictions of long-term deflection by ACI code, Branson, Mayer, Neville, EMM and AEMM were compared with the experimental results. From the experimental results, the reinforced concrete beams with recycled aggregates showed the same performance as that of a beam with natural aggregate. The proposed method to predict the long-term deflections of reinforced recycled aggregate concrete beams gives a good estimation for experimental results.

  • The objective of this work is to study the flexural strengthening effectiveness of Carbon Fiber Mesh (CFM) in reinforced concrete beams. Flexural strengthening for a simply supported reinforced concrete (RC) beam using CFM is developed by bonding CFM to the soffit of the beam. In this experimental program, five medium-sized reinforced concrete beams strengthened with CFM are tested in bending to evaluate reinforcing effects of the CFM. The beams are designed to have high shear capacity so that expected dominant failure mode of specimens is bending. The reinforcing effect of CFM is small at crack initiation, but is considerable in flexural rigidity of the beam after crack initiation. In comparing the behaviors of strengthened and virgin beams each other, it is shown that the strength of RC beams can be enhanced by attaching CFM. A fairly good agreement between the measured values and the calculated ones is obtained at both the cracking strength and yield strength of the strengthened beams.

  • This study tackles the development of an improved detail of partially restrained CFT square column-to-beam connection and the evaluation of its mechanical behavior under monotonic loading. The connection is designed to strengthen shearing capacity at the bottom of the connection due to the ultimate behavior of PR-CC by its detail of the bottom connection and simplify the fabrication process. The suggested connection is the welded bottom beam flange connection(M-2) and is compared with the existing PR-CC of bolted seat angle connection(M-1). Two specimens were fabricated in actual size and tested under monotonic loading. Based on the test results, the welded bottom beam flange connection exhibited about 85% of the stiffness of steel beam. It was similar to the bolted seat angle connection and behaved as PR-CC. The specimen of the supposed connection type failed at the shear connection of web but was similar to the bolted seat angle connection until the failure. It obtained sufficient stiffness and capacity through the reinforcingsteel and the capacity and deformational ability equivalent to the full-plastic moment through the anchor inside the steel tube at the web connection. So, it can be said that the suggested connection exhibits sufficient ductile behavior.

  • In the NRC (New paradigm Reinforced Concrete) beam, steel forms, main angles used as main reinforcements, and shear angles used as basic shear reinforcements are welded and assembled in the form of vierendeel truss structures in a steel factory. After the NRC truss frame is installed at the site, additional main reinforcement and shear reinforcement are distributed. In this study, the shear performance evaluation of the NRC beam was conducted through shear tests in accordance with the type of shear reinforcement of the NRC beam (shear angle, inclined shear reinforcing bar, and U-type cover bar). As a result of the test, the initial stiffness was similar before the initial cracking of each specimen, and all specimens were shear fractured. The shear reinforcements of the specimens exhibited a yielding behavior at the time of the maximum sheat force, and the shear strengths of the specimens increased as the amount of reinforcement of the shear reinforcement increased. These results show that NRC shear reinforcements exhibit shear performance corresponding to their shear strength contribution. As a result of calculating the nominal shear strengths according to KDS 14 20 22, the experimental shear strengths of the NRC beam specimens with shear reinforcement was 37~146% larger than the nominal shear strengths, so It was evaluated as a safety side.

  • Cyclic loading tests for shear dominant hybrid steel link beams with circular web openings were performed to evaluate the seismic performance. Four half-scaled specimens with bolted connections were tested. The test parameter is a diameter of the web opening, i.e., shear strength ratio ($V_{pw}/V_p$) of the link beam and presence of top-seat angles. Using test results, adequate design shear strength of link beam was finally suggested. Test results showed that when the shear capacity is less than half of the plastic shear strength, seismic performance was improved due to mitigation of pinching under reversed cyclic inelastic deformations.

  • This study evaluates the shear performance of reinforced concrete beams with electric arc furnace oxidizing slag aggregates generated from iron manufacture. A total of six simple supported specimens were cast and tested in shear. The main test variables were the type of aggregates and the amount of shear reinforcements. The specimens under four point loading had a shear span-to-depth ratio of 2.5 and a rectangular section with a width of 200mm and an effective depth of 300mm. Existing equations to predict the shear strength of the specimens were used in this study. Furthermore, a finite element analysis using shear analytical model was performed to trace the shear behavior of the specimens with electric arc furnace oxidizing aggregates. From the test results, the shear performance of specimens with electric arc furnace oxidizing aggregates is similar to that of specimens with natural aggregates.
