Effects of Limited Hyperextension at Knee Joint Using Limited Motion Knee Brace on Balance, Walking in Patients with Hemiplegia (슬관절 움직임 제한 보조기를 이용한 슬관절 과신전 제한이 편마비 환자의 균형과 보행에 미치는 영향)

  • The purposes of this study was to determine the effects of limited hyperextension at knee joint using Limited Motion Knee Brace on balance and walking in patients with hemiplegia. The subjects of this study were 20 post-stroke hemiplegic patients admitted. Subjects were randomly assigned to either experimental group (Limited Motion Knee Brace group) or control group (manual restriction group). Both groups received traditional physical therapy intervention. The effects of each therapeutic method were evaluated by measurements of gait ability assesment, Berg balance scale (BBS), 10-meter walk speed (10MWS), Timed Up & Go (TUG) Test. The results of this research were as followings: (1) After treatment, there were significant BBS scores differences in both experimental and control group compared with pre-treatment(p<0.05). (2) After treatment, there were significant TUG test scores differences in both experimental and control group compared with pre-treatment (p<0.05). (3) After treatment, there were significant 10MWS differences in both experimental and control group compared with pre-treatment (p<0.05). (4) There were significant BBS scores differences in third and fourth week between experimental and control group (p<0.05). It was concluded that Limited Motion Knee Brace was effective for improving balance and for reducing fatigue for experimental group. Therefore, further studies are required to investigate the effect of knee orthosis for improving balance and walking in patients with hemiplegia.

Evaluating the Impact of Walkability Environments on Leisure Walking Using Google Street View and Deep Learning - A Case Study of Yongsan District, Seoul - (구글 스트리트 뷰와 딥러닝을 활용한 보행 친화적 환경이 여가보행에 미치는 영향 평가 - 서울특별시 용산구를 대상으로 -)

  • This study aims to distinguish between utilitarian walking and leisure walking activities and analyze the correlation between these types of walking and the walking environment. To measure the walking environment, we utilized Google Street View (GSV) and employed semantic segmentation deep learning techniques to quantitatively assess urban walking environment elements as perceived by pedestrians. A survey was conducted to measure utilitarian walking, leisure walking, and perceived walking environment satisfaction, collecting valid responses from 192 participants. Using the survey data, we visualized utilitarian walking, leisure walking, and perceived walking environment satisfaction, and analyzed the correlation between these variables and the walkability scores. The results indicated that leisure walking had a significant positive correlation with walkability (Pearson's r = 0.121, p-value = 0.012), while there was no significant correlation between utilitarian walking and walkability (Pearson's r = 0.093, p-value = 0.055). These findings suggest that people prioritize mobility efficiency over the walking environment for utilitarian walking, whereas the quality of the walking environment significantly influences the frequency of leisure walking. Based on these results, the study proposes specific strategies to improve the walking environment around residential areas to promote leisure walking. These strategies include creating vertical gardens or various forms of three-dimensional gardens on narrow walkways and improving sidewalk design. The findings of this study can contribute to promoting leisure walking by creating walk-friendly environments, ultimately enhancing urban sustainability and the quality of life for residents.

The Effects of Visuo-perceptual Task Exercise on Postural Balance and Independent Gait Pattern in Hemiplegic Patients (시지각 운동 과제 프로그램이 편마비 환자의 자세 균형 및 독립적 보행에 미치는 효과)

  • 본 연구는 뇌졸중으로 인한 편마비 환자 20명을 대상으로 총 8주간 시지각 운동 과제를 적용하여 자세 균형, 보행 양상에 미치는 효과를 검증하고자 시행하였다. 실험군(n=10)과 대조군(n=10) 모두 보존적인 물리치료를 실시하였고 실험군에는 시지각 운동 과제 프로그램을 더하여 실시하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 실험군의 되먹임 측정을 통한 자세 균형 검사에서 편평한 지면 위에서 눈을 뜨고 감은 상태의 안정성 지수는 유의한 감소를 보였으며, pillow 위에서 눈을 뜨고 감은 상태의 안정성 지수도 유의하게 감소하였다. 체중분포지수는 편평한 지면에서 눈을 뜨고, 감은 상태와 pillow 위에서 눈을 뜨고 감은 상태 모두에서 유의하게 감소하였다. 실험군에서 10m 보행 속도는 대조군과 달리 유의하게 증가하였다. 본 연구에서의 시지각적 운동과제 프로그램은 편마비 환자의 신체기능과 관련된 자세균형 및 보행을 증진시키는 효과가 있었고 이에 보다 효과적인 운동방법으로 제시할 수 있다.

  • Large scale composition facility gives in commerce and space structure effect. therefore, this study will estimating locational value of the commercial facilities by separating space analyze to the topological property, predict a pattern and distribution of passenger's routes through the space syntax on the basis of analysis about the topological property which quantitatively using a estimating tool. Moreover, this study should suggest some of present issues at the aspects of inside city plan and design fitting the internalization of street for propelling efficient the locational strategy.

  • This single case study is to examine the gait parameter changes of a 12-year old patient with Cerebellar Astrocytomas using RAS in gait training program. Kinematic and temporospatial changes were analyzed using VICON 370 Motion Analysis System. A total of nine RAS gait training sessions was provided and each training program took 30 minutes. Gait analysis revealed that the patient showed improvement in cadence, velocity, stride length, and step length and improved the range of joint movements by showing gait patterns similar to normal distribution from a pathological pattern. This study showed possibilities to apply the RAS technique to the various population including clients with cerebellum damaged; however more further research should be done in this area.

  • Walking plays an important role in promoting peoples' health and reducing the increasing pressure of traffic congestion. However, for cities in developing countries located in areas with unfavorable weather, such as hot and humid weather, there is not much research on walking. Therefore, this study focuses on the walkability and the effect of the built environment on walking in the center district of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The correlation between the built environment and walking frequency of people was analyzed. Besides common elements that have been used in previous studies, other specific factors of the built environment were determined to estimate the walkability index. The results were then compared with the amount of walking obtained from surveys of local people. The result shows that people tend to walk more in the areas with a higher walkability index.

The Effects of Coordinative Locomotor Training Program for Life-Care Promotion on Balance of Obese Elderly Women (라이프케어 증진을 위한 협응적 이동훈련 프로그램이 비만 여성노인의 균형에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of coordinative locomotor training (CLT) program on the balance for the promotion of life care of elderly obese women. Ten participants of elderly obese women who were able to walk independently without surgery experience of lumbar, hip or knee joint within the past year were recruited and under went the pretest, CLT (20 sessions), followed by the post-test. The test included BMI test using In-body, joint kinematics using myoVIDEO, muscle activation using surface EMG test (erector spinae (ER), external oblique abdominalis (EO), quadriceps femoris (Quad), hamstring muscle (Ham)) and balance tests including dynamic balance test using forced treadmill, Berg balance scale (BBS) and timed up go (TUG). The CLT program was conducted 60 minutes a day, 5 days a week, over 4 weeks period. As a result of this study, The the trunk and hip joints kinematics during the stance and swing phases of gait were a statistical significance levels were set at p <0.05. The ER and EO muscle activation were significantly improved after intervention (p <0.05). The length of gait line and single support line of change of center of pressure (COP) were significantly increased after intervention (p <0.05). The BBS and TUG were also significantly enhanced after intervention (p <0.05). The results of this study showed that CLT program for the improvement of life care had significant effects on improving postural instability, muscle weakness, reduced balance ability and falling risk of obese elderly women. Therefore, it is recommended to apply CLT program to improve life-care through improving balance ability and preventing fall of obese elderly women.

Effects of Side Walking Training on Balance and Gait in Stroke Patients (측방보행 훈련이 뇌졸중 환자의 균형 및 보행에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Side walking training on the balance (Functional Gait Assessment; FGA, Timed Up & Go Test; TUG) and gait (10 meter Walking Test; 10 mWT) of stroke patients. 28 stroke patients were randomly allocated to an experimental group(side walking Training) and control group(forward walking training) of 14 patients each. both groups received rehabilitative physical therapy for during 4 weeks. The experimental group was asked to participate in Side walking training for 20 minutes per day 3 times per week during 4 weeks. The control group was asked to participate in forward walking training for 20 minutes per day 3 times per week during 4 weeks. There were significantly increase by side walking training in outcome of the balance from the FGA was increase from 16.86 score to 18.64 score(p<.05), TUG was decrease from 26.03 sec to 22.43 sec(p<.05) and 10 mWT was decrease from 21.90 sec to 19.10 sec(p<.05), Therefore side walking training is to promote balance and gait in stroke patients will be able to offer useful training.

Effects of Visual Feedback Treadmill Gait Training Program Combined with Virtual Reality Technology and a Force Plate Measurement System on Gait Ability and Quality of Life in Stroke Patients (가상현실과 힘판을 통한 시각적 되먹임 트레드밀 보행훈련이 뇌졸중 환자의 보행능력과 삶의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to improve the gait ability and quality of life of stroke patients by combining virtual reality technology and a visual feedback gait training program with entertainment elements. Ten stroke patients with circumduction gait were selected. The visual feedback treadmill gait training program using virtual reality technology and a force plate measurement system was conducted 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week, with 25 sessions in 5 weeks. To investigate the effects of this gait training program, evaluations using the joint range-of-motion test, muscle activity tests, Berg balance scale (BBS), gait analysis, and stroke-specific quality-of-life scale (SS-QOL) were performed before and after intervention. Statistically significant differences were found in the joint range of motion and muscle activity of the affected side from the initial swing phase to the mid-swing phase of the gait cycle, dynamic balance, gait function, and quality of life (p <0.05). The results of this study indicate that the gait training program improved the foot drop, muscle activity, dynamic balance, and gait ability of stroke patients with circumduction gait, thereby improving the quality of life of the patients. Therefore, we recommend the application of the visual feedback treadmill gait training program using virtual reality technology and a force plate measurement system to improve gait ability and quality of life of stroke patients with circumduction gait.
