Conservation treatment of metallic artifacts contaminated with corrosion and foreign substances requires changes in the shape, characteristics, weight and thickness of the artifacts. Thus far, recording the changes after conservation treatment has mainly been performed through visual observation and photography, which lacks any quantitative description of the changes. In this study, the processes of removing foreign substances, joining cracks, and restoring an affected area were recorded using 3D scanning and then quantitatively analyzed to identify changes in form due to conservation treatment. The volume change after the conservation process was calculated based on the results of the 3D scanning, and numerical data on the changes to the form was analyzed. It was revealed that the foreign or corroded substances removed after the conservation accounted for 18.1 cm³, which is approximately 52% of the total volume of the ring pommel, and those substances were removed from about 98% of the surface of the ring pommel. This study confirmed that 3D form analysis was useful for recording the processes of conservation treatment and analyzing the results. It is therefore believed that this methodology can be applicable to not only metal artifacts, but to cultural heritage items in a range of materials.

In this study, a study on the cooperative system of the Chungnam Library's joint preservation data center and a plan for the construction of the use service was proposed based on the analysis of the current status of the preservation library of the Chungcheongnam-do public library. In order to establish a cooperative plan for the joint preservation archive and to promote the provision of services, the current state of the collection of 62 public libraries in Chungnam-do and the status of the preservation archives that are operating separately were identified. As a result of the study, it was found that all matters related to the operation of the joint preservation archive should be made through agreements or consultations between the participants, and the operation of the joint preservation archive should also be made under a systematic cooperation system between the participants. To this end, it is necessary to establish a cooperative system for the Chungnam Library Joint Preservation Archives, and to form and operate the Joint Preservation Archives Steering Committee, a consultative body (cooperation network). In addition, all matters related to the operation of the Joint Preservation Archive, such as transfer criteria, must be regulated and implemented through consultation with the Joint Preservation Archive Steering Committee.

The construction of preservation metadata is a prerequisite for the preservation of digital information. In the current approaches to digital archiving, however, there is no metadata structure optimized to describe preserved digital objects. This research proposed metadata packages that can support the description of digital objects from the perspective of the core processes of digital archiving. The proposed metadata packages consist of 4 wrapper elements and 25 sub-elements. They can provide detailed descriptions required to preserve digital objects in accordance with the core processes of digital archiving. Therefore, the proposed metadata package can be applied to digital archiving as a better approach to the description of digital objects compared to the approaches to information package.

The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the characteristics of seven major cooperative storage facilities for academic libraries in the U.S.A, Australia, and Scotland in order to provide a frame of reference for such a facility in Korea. Analyzed are unique characteristics of these storage facilities in relation to their physical facilities, uses and services for collections, participating organizations, ownership of resources, and integrated library management and access systems. Some objectives of operations and physical environments are shared by these storage facilities, and have some implications for the development of cooperative storage facilities in Korea.
