  • The forms of stone cultural properties vary depending on the purpose of construction. In general, pagodas and statues of the Buddha (including the Maebul) are representative of stone cultural properties and demonstrate important aspects of cultural history and scientific technology. The purpose for which cultural properties were constructed may influence construction technologies, so we must carefully think about and clearly understand the purpose of construction, namely the cultural and/or philosophical history, when conducting conservation treatments now. This may be examined through the relationship between "why?" and "how?": Why did the builders construct these stone cultural properties, and how did they use such technologies? We may be deeply impressed by the form and delicacy of the sculpture, which is the "how" aspect of the technologies, but we must also understand the effect of the "why." namely the soul and/or spirit of those who created the properties. The form of stone cultural properties may be influenced by (1) the political-social sphere, (2) religion, or (3) the cultural history of the period, which have changed over time. It is important that this is the view taken in current conservation treatment.

  • Two subject-matters are discussed in this article, i.e., the characteristics of philosophical dialogue in Upaniṣads and its influence on the typicalness of Hindu philosophy. First of all, it can be epitomized that the philosophical dialogue of Upaniṣads is to be described as an immediate reproduction of knowledge on 'the truth of truth' by means of revelational teaching. Besides, this dialogue serves as an origin by which the liberation-oriented Hindu philosophy is developed after ages. All the details would be set in order as follows; firstly, the philosophical dialogue in Upaniṣads is an archetype of philosophical dialogue in India. Secondly, this dialogue is a germination that gives birth to the typicalness of liberation-oriented Hindu philosophy. Thirdly, as a result, this dialogue is an original model or an archetype of that very typicalness which are to be specialized such as conservatism on tradition, making revelation being absolute, discredit on reasoning, substantial ontology, knowledge-focused soteriology, empirical reproduction of the truth, etc.

  • The Mencius's saint is not a rational being but a being of real world. He thought that all mankind have the goodness, and if we complete it, we can become a 'saint' like the 'King Yao' or the 'King Shun'. And he maintained that to complete the goodness, we must understand what the goodness is. He has divided this knowledge into the innate phase and the acquired phase, and then insisted that mankind can be a saint by the both of them. Also, Mencius suggested that we can be saint by the preservation of goodness('Ren & Li'). To bring up the goodness, we're not supposed to be inclined to a material desire, we're asked a mental training of 'Si chemg' reflecting on them-self. It is a 'Dao' of the mankind. When it completes, mankind will commune(communicate) with nature. This paper focused the Saint notion of Mencius, especially the mental training of Saint & the social realization.

  • According to Kant, morality is an institution that preserves and promotes humanity. However, some pathologies can be found in morality. Nietzsche is the one who severely criticized pathologies of morality, especially in terms of the phenomenon of "self-deception". Those who support Kantian tradition, can also learn from Nietzsche's criticism. But they regard "respect" as the fundamental moral attitude. This is different from Nietzsche's "pathos of distance", which is based on disrespect and contempt.

  • Although the recent interest in and favor for natural burial has increased, there are still few who choose it as a funeral. The purpose of the study is to supply necessary information to promote the choice of natural burial. For this a survey of 430 students and residents was conducted in Daejeon. The result of the research is as follows. First, there is a significant difference in use intention of natural burial by age and religion. People under the age of 30 and Catholic believers recorded the highest score in use intention of natural burial. Second, there was a significant difference in information on natural burial by age or religion, in religion and philosophy by age, in physical environment by sex or age, and in conservation by sex or age. In general, the lower the age, the higher the positive perception of natural burial was. While females had a more positive perception of physical environment than males, males had a more positive perception of conservation than females. All sub factors of the perception of natural burial such as information on natural burial, funeral style, religion and philosophy, physical environment and conservation had a significant and positive effect on its use intention. However, ratio skew showed that religion and philosophy had the strongest effect on use intention of natural burial, followed by funeral style, physical environment, conservation, and information on natural burial.

  • Jens Jensen was an American landscape architect and early conservationist who pioneered a unique naturalistic landscape style. The purpose of the present study is to study Jensen's life, careers, design philosophy, and his contributions to the history of landscape architecture. Inspired by nature, Jensen worked closely with native plants, local materials, curvilineal and circular forms, and native scenery. His pioneering work in the Chicago's West Parks, including the design of Columbus Park and Humboldt, Garfield and Douglas Parks, was informed by his philosophical belief in the humanizing power of parks. In summary, first, Jensen played a prominent role in the creation of a unique native landscape style respecting regional landscape. Second, as a devoted conservationist and educator he organized conservation movements preserving landscape heritage and founded a education institution. Third, as a social reformer he emphasized the value of parks and nearby nature for urban citizens and children. Jensen's visions and philosophies have influenced on recent naturalistic landscape style and conservation efforts to preserve cultural landscape and natural environment.
