  • One of the major limitations of productivity and quality in metal cutting is the machining accuracy of machine tools. The machining accuracy is affected by geometric errors, thermally-induced errors, and the deterioration of the machine tools. Geometric and thermal errors of machine tools should be measured and compensated to manufacture high quality products. In metal cutting, the machining accuracy is more affected by thermal errors than by geometric errors. In this study, the compensation device and temperature-based algorithm have been presented in order to compensate thermal error of machine tools under the real-time. The thermal error is modeled by means of angularity errors of a column and thermal drift error of the spindle unit which are measured by the touch probe unit with a star type styluses, a designed spherical ball artifact, and five gap sensors. In order to compensate thermal characteristics under several operating conditions, experiments performed with five gap sensors and manufactured compensation device on the horizontal machining center.

Scene-based non-uniformity correction for thermal imaging system using microscanning effect (미세주사효과를 이용한 배경기반 열영상 불균일 보정 기법)

  • In this paper, a real-time implementation of scene-based non-uniformity correction by digital technique is proposed for microscan-mode staring infrared cameras. Most scene-based non-uniformity correction algorithms, without sensor motion, can not be applied to stationary scenes because of image blurring and fading. Using microscanning effect, coupled with a modified version of Scribner's algorithm, the proposed technique can correct the artifacts and non-uniformities in real time Computer simulations and hardware experiments demonstrate substantial Improvement of image qualities in stationary as well as moving scenes.

  • A motion capture system is widely used in movies, computer game, and computer animation industries because it allows for creating realistic human motions efficiently. The inertial motion capture system has several advantages over more popular vision-based systems in terms of the required space and cost. However, it suffers from low accuracy due to the relatively high noise levels of the inertial sensors. In particular, the accelerometer used for measuring gravity direction loses the accuracy when the sensor is moving with non-zero linear acceleration. In this paper, we propose a method to remove the linear acceleration component from the accelerometer data in order to improve the accuracy of measuring gravity direction. In addition, we develop a simple method to calibrate the joint axis of a link to which an inertial sensor belongs as well as the position of a sensor with respect to the link. The calibration enables attaching inertial sensors in an arbitrary position and orientation with respect to a link.

  • This paper introduces design and implementation of digital photo kiosk system, digital photo printing system, with auto color correction module that considers gamut between touch screen and output device, digital photo printer, to provide user-preferred media. This module performs media correction function to service high quality contents for image captured by digital camera and mobile phone camera. Since it is implemented as LUT for real-time processing, the system offers one-touch interface to user. As a result of implementation, this kiosk system provides user-favorite photo because of black and white mode, sepia mode, and brightness and contrast adjustment. Also it can gives smooth tone transition and photos of similar color to captured image due to auto color correction module.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for correcting the measurement axis twist that occurs in the process of wearing and each estimation method of joint in which the inertial measurement unit based in health arm by the method of operation upper limb rehabilitation equipment of hemiplegic patients. In order to verify the proposed method, it is fitted with a inertial measurement unit of the upper arm and forearm of the experimenter left arm, verified by comparing actual joint angle is detected by photographing the arbitrary posture, the angle that the estimated joint. Then, it was verified by comparing the applied front / rear techniques for correcting the measurement axis twist. A result of the experiment, before applying the measurement axis twist correction, joint, after but each match rate showed a weak concordance rate in 89.16% and were corrected, measurement axis twist, each concordance rate of joint agreement of 93.28% I understand that it has been 4.12% improvement in the rate.

  • A 4-year-old female reticulated giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis reticulata), at Seoul Zoo, Gwacheon, Korea had a male calf with no help of proper restraint devices. The mother giraffe was in a danger of dystocia more than 7 hours in labor after showing the calf's toe of the foreleg which protruded from her vulva. After tugging with a snare of rope on the metacarpal bone of the calf and pulling it, the other toe emerged. Finally, with two snares around each of metacarpal bones, the calf was completely pulled out by zoo staff. After parturition, the dam was in normal condition for taking care of the calf and her progesterone hormone had also dropped down to a normal pre-pregnancy.

Evaluation of Corrected Dose with Inhomogeneous Tissue by using CT Image (CT 영상을 이용한 불균질 조직의 선량보정 평가)

  • Purpose: In radiation therapy, precise calculation of dose toward malignant tumors or normal tissue would be a critical factor in determining whether the treatment would be successful. The Radiation Treatment Planning (RTP) system is one of most effective methods to make it effective to the correction of dose due to CT number through converting linear attenuation coefficient to density of the inhomogeneous tissue by means of CT based reconstruction. Materials and Methods: In this study, we carried out the measurement of CT number and calculation of mass density by using RTP system and the homemade inhomogeneous tissue Phantom and the values were obtained with reference to water. Moreover, we intended to investigate the effectiveness and accuracy for the correction of inhomogeneous tissue by the CT number through comparing the measured dose (nC) and calculated dose (Percentage Depth Dose, PDD) used CT image during radiation exposure with RTP. Results: The difference in mass density between the calculated tissue equivalent material and the true value was ranged from $0.005g/cm^3\;to\;0.069g/cm^3$. A relative error between PDD of RTP and calculated dose obtained by radiation therapy of machine ranged from -2.8 to +1.06%(effective range within 3%). Conclusion: In conclusion, we confirmed the effectiveness of correction for the inhomogeneous tissues through CT images. These results would be one of good information on the basic outline of Quality Assurance (QA) in RTP system.

Pedestrian-Based Variational Bayesian Self-Calibration of Surveillance Cameras (보행자 기반의 변분 베이지안 감시 카메라 자가 보정)

  • Pedestrian-based camera self-calibration methods are suitable for video surveillance systems since they do not require complex calibration devices or procedures. However, using arbitrary pedestrians as calibration targets may result in poor calibration accuracy due to the unknown height of each pedestrian. To solve this problem in the real surveillance environments, this paper proposes a novel Bayesian approach. By assuming known statistics on the height of pedestrians, we construct a probabilistic model that takes into account uncertainties in both the foot/head locations and the pedestrian heights, using foot-head homology. Since solving the model directly is infeasible, we use variational Bayesian inference, an approximate inference algorithm. Accordingly, this makes it possible to estimate the height of pedestrians and to obtain accurate camera parameters simultaneously. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is robust to noise and provides accurate confidence in the calibration.

기술현황분석 - 공작기계 채터진동 감지용 임베디드 디바이스 개발 및 CNC 자율보정

  • 채터진동은 공작기계에서 가공중에 소재와 공구사이에 나타나는 급격한 상대진동을 말한다. 이러한 진동은 가공 소재 품질에 심각한 영향을 미치는 요소일 뿐만 아니라 가공툴과 기계에 손상을 유발시키는 인자이기도 하다. 본 연구는 공작기계의 구동 중 발생되는 채터진동을 실시간으로 감지하여 공구의 회전속도와 이송 속도를 제어하여 자율보정함으로써 보다 빨리 채터진동의 영향을 보상함을 물론 보다 정밀한 가공물을 생산할 수 있는 채터진동 감지 및 보정에 관한 것이다. 실시간 처리를 위하여 본 연구에서의 공작기계의 채터진동 보상장치는 공작기계에 임베디드 형태의 디바이스로 개발되었으며, 구성은 공작기계의 채터진동을 감지하는 센서와 센서로부터 감지된 채터진동에 따라 보상값을 예측하여 산출하는 채터보상기를 포함하여 공작기계의 CNC제어기의 연계 구성됨을 특징으로 한다.

  • GFINS(gyro-free inertial navigation system)는 가속도 센서에서 계측된 데이터를 2차 적분하여 yaw를 계산한다. 하지만 가속도 센서는 외란과 적분 오차에 의한 누적오차가 지속적으로 커지는 문제가 있다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 퍼지 추론 시스템(FIS: fuzzy inference system)을 이용해 가속도 센서의 데이터를 보정함으로써 누적오차를 줄이는 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 방법의 성능평가를 위해, 직접 설계한 전방향 AGV를 이용하여 직선과 측면, 대각에 대해 반복 실험하였다. 실험 결과, 제안된 방법이 가속도 센서의 데이터를 효과적으로 보정하는 것을 확인하였다.
