  • This paper summarizes the development and evaluation of the reinforcement details of CFRP plates to improve the bending performance of wooden beams. In this study, the reinforcing technology using high-strength bolts for the end of beam were developed as reinforcement details for reinforcing wooden beams with CFRP plates by EBM method. In order to evaluate the bending performance, a bending test was conducted for the specimens with details of reinforcement such as the EBM method and the NSM method. From the experimental results, the EBM specimens without end restraints had both the CFRP plate attachment failure and the splitting failure of the wood. In the load-displacement curve, the non-reinforced specimens exhibited linear elastic behavior and then brittle fracture after the maximum load. The maximum load of the specimens reinforced by the EBM method increased by 31.5~63.0% compared to the non-reinforced specimens, and the maximum load according to the end restraints of the high-strength bolts increased by 24.0%. Based on the reinforcement amount of the same CFRP plate, EBM reinforcement was 2.67 times larger in maximum load increase rate than NSM reinforcement.

  • The aim of this paper is to clarify the shear behavior of RC beams strengthened with channel-type Fiber Reinforced Polymer(FRP) plates. Fourteen RC beams were specifically designed. All the beams were tested under four point bending and extensively instrumented to monitor strains, cracking, load capacity and failure modes. The structural response of all beams is then critically analyzed in terms of deformability, strength and failure processes. It is shown that with channel-type Fiber Reinforced Polymer(FRP) plates, a brittle debonding failure of beams bonding FRP in the concrete surface can be transformed to an almost ductile failure with well-defined enhancement of structural performance in terms of both deformation and strength.

  • The purpose of this study is to experimentally investigate the shear behavior of flat plate that reinforced by embedded GFRP(glass fiber reinforced polymer) plate with openings. Shape of the GFRP shear reinforcement is a plate with several openings to ensure perfect integration with concrete. The test was performed on 7 specimens to check shear strength of flat plate that reinforced by GFRP plate. The parameters include the spacing of the shear reinforcement and amount of the shear reinforcement. The result of test showed that when amount of shear reinforcement was increased, shear strength improved. The result of test showed that maximum shear strength was confirmed when spacing of shear reinforcement was 0.3d. The calculation of the shear strength of reinforced flat plate with GFRP plate based on the KCI was compared with the test results.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with CFRP strips. A total of 12 rectangular beams were tested. Test variables in this study were the shapes, bonded length and the number of longitudinal layers of CFRP strips. From the experimental study, flexural capacity of the beams strengthened with CFRP strips significantly increased compared to the reinforced concrete beam without a CFRP strip. Maximum increase of ultimate strength was found about 120% more than the control beam. In this test, most of the strengthened beams failed suddenly due to the debonding of CFRP strips. It is also observed that the debonding of the strip was initiated in the flexural zone of the beam and propagated rapidly to the end of the beam. The ultimate tensile strains of CFRP strips in this test were occurred at the level of 36% of rupture tensile strength of the CFRP strip, and an analytical approach to compute the flexural strength of reinforced beams strengthened with CFRP strips based on the effective stresses was conducted.

  • The aim of this study is to derive an empirical formula for predicting ultimate strength of plates and stiffened plates subjected to uniaxial compression. The test data of ultimate compressive strength for unstiffened and stiffened plates previously obtained by others have been collected. Many test data are necessary so that the derived formula will be available in wide range of plate dimensions. Additional collapse tests for a plate specimen with one flat bar stiffener, varying dimensions of plate and stiffener were performed in this study. On the basis of the present and previous experimental data, a more useful empirical formula than the existing ones was derived by applying the least square method.

  • The prediction and analysis procedure of fatigue damage crack growth life for a stiffener bonded composite laminate panel including center hole and edge notch damage, was studied. It was performed on the basis of fatigue damage growth test results on a laminated skin panel specimens and the analysis results of stress intensity factor for the stiffener bonded composite panel. According to the comparison between experimental test and prediction results of fatigue damage growth life, it was concluded that the residual strength and damage tolerance assessment can be carried out along to the edge notch crack growth.

  • Since the deterioration of concrete bridge decks affect durability, safety, and function, structural rehabilitation of damaged concrete deck that was strengthened with Fiber Reinforced Polymer(FRP) is increasing the latest. But recent studies on the strengthened structures are focused on the static behavior, however only a few studies on the fatigue behavior are performed. In this study, static and fatigue behavior of strengthened deck were peformed on 11 deck specimens strengthened with sheet typed Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer(GFRP) that were reinforced by two different strengthening methods for the static test. A amount of strengthening material in the each direction such as transverse and longitudinal was adopted experimental variables for the static test and also the stress level of the static maximum load are adopted for the fatigue test. By the results of the experimental study, with respect to the strengthened decks, the resistance effect of crack propagation and effect of stress distribution are improved. In addition, the rate of variation of compliance decreased.

  • This research analyzes eigenvalue analysis of stiffened plates on the Pasternak foundations using the finite clement method. For analyzing the stiffened plates, both the Mindlin plate theory and Timoshenko beam-column theory were applied. In application of the finite element method, 8-nodes serendipity clement system and 3-nodes finite element system were used for plate and beam elements, respectively. Elastic foundations were modeled as the Pasternak foundations in which the continuity effect of foundations is considered. In order to verify the theory of this study, solutions obtained by this analysis were compared with the classical solutions in reference, experimental solutions and solutions obtained by SAP 2000. The natural frequency of stiffened plates on Pasternak foundations were determined according to changes or foundation parameters and dimensions of stiffener.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the strength and ductility improvement of columns retrofitted by steel-fiber composite plate. Test specimens strengthened by three different materials - steel plate(SP), carbon fiber sheet(CF) and fiber-steel composite plate(CP) - were tested under cyclic lateral load with a constant axial load equal to $20\%$ of the axial compression capacity. The structural capacity of composite plate was good or better than that of other retrofitting materials. Test results from all retrofitted specimens showed that considerably higher retrofitting amount was required for strength enhancement. The ductility of retrofitted columns by composite plate was fairly improved. Also, energy ductility ratio was more effective than displacement ductility ratio for ductility estimation of retrofitted column.

  • Stiffened panels are basic strength members which have been used widely in a vessel or an offshore. They have been used often a deck, a side and a bottom structure of ship and have a number of one sided stiffener in either one or both directions called grillage. Their buckling and plastic collapse become damaged reason of the hull girder so it needs to investigate accurately buckling and ultimate strength of stiffened panels. In the present paper, using the ANSYS, a commercial finite element analysis code, we conducted the evaluation regarding buckling and post-buckling behaviour of stiffened panels, and analyzed stiffener's web height change, considering the effect of lateral pressure load against compression ultimate strength.
