  • The concrete bridge decks on the main girder will usually develop initial cracks in the longitudinal or the transverse direction due to dry shrinkage and temperature change, and as the bridge decks age the crack will gradually develop in different directions due to repeated cyclic loads. The strengthening direction of the concrete bridge deck is a very important factor in improving proper structural behavior. Therefore, in this study, theoretical analyses of strengthened bridge decks were performed using the nonlinear finite element method. To improve the accuracy of the analytical result, boundary conditions and material property of strengthening material was simulated by laboratory condition and test results, respectively. The effect of the strengthening direction and the amount of strengthening material were estimated and compared to the experimental results. The efficiency of the strengthened bridge decks by strengthening variables such as the amount, width and thickness of CFS was observed.

  • Steel plate bonding method with epoxy is common applied to repair and strengthen RC structures, but Steel is apt to corrode quickly, hard to manufacture and heavy. To overcome these defects, it is carried out research on strengthening RC structures with FRP(Fibre Reinforced Polyrner/Plastic) FRP is generally used in the shape of Plate or Sheet, but it has weak point such as premature failure, difficult work. To cope with these problem, NSMR(Near Surface Mounted Reinforcement) which uses CFRP in the shape of Rod is proposed and carried out active research on strengthening effect of variables such as quantity, anchorage length and space of CFRP-Rod. Strengthening with CFRP-Rod is carried out under loading to some degree in fact, and so the amount of pre-loading is selected as variable in this research. The amount of pre-loading is chosen in proportion to nominal strength of non-strengthened specimen with CFRP-Rod.

  • Researches on strengthening and rehabilitation methods are being widely conducted due to the deterioration of existing concrete structures. Use of externally bonded Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRP) strips for the rehabilitation is a cost-effective and time-saving method. Generally, the CFRP layout for the shear strengthening was a uni-directional layout. Many researches have focused on the variables of the uni-directional CFRP layout such as the amount of material, angle, and spacing. Pilot tests indicated that the effective confinement of the concrete member can be provided with the bi-directional CFRP layout than the uni-directional layout. Therefore, the test was carried out after the uni- and bi-directional strengthening work using the same amount of CFRP material. CFRP anchors were installed to prevent unexpected premature CFRP delamination failure before reaching CFRP fracture strain. The effectiveness of the CFRP anchor and bi-directional CFRP layout for shear strengthening was verified based on the principal tensile strain contours.

  • Resisting strength of ring-stiffened cylindrical steel shell under uniform external pressure was evaluated by geometrically and materially nonlinear finite element method. The effects of shape and amplitude of geometric initial imperfection, radius to thickness ratio, and spacing of ring stiffeners on the resisting strength of ring-stiffened shell were analyzed. The resisting strength of ring-stiffened cylindrical shells made of SM490 obtained by FEA were compared with design strengths specified in Eurocode 3 and DNV-RP-C202. The shell buckling modes obtained from a linear elastic bifurcation FE analysis were introduced in the nonlinear FE analysis as initial geometric imperfections. The radius to thickness ratios of cylindrical shell in the range of 250 to 500 were considered.

  • In this short paper, an elasto-plastic repair and retrofit element is developed for the investigation of the seismic performance of damaged reinforced concrete members. The developed element is capable of reflecting the increased characteristics due to both repair and retrofitting for degraded strength and stiffness of the members. The element having both birth and death time can freely be activated within the user-defined time intervals during static and dynamic time-history analysis. Comparative studies are conducted for reinforced concrete members being repaired and retrofitted. Analytical predictions including the developed element display reasonable correlation with experimental results. In short, it is concluded that the developed element is capable of providing salient features for the healthy assessment of seismic performance of RC members being repaired and retrofitted.

  • This study was conducted to identify the structural performance of the opening in a location close to the support point in the perforated beam system of steel beams. In addition, structural performance was determined through experiments on reinforced openings using vertical and horizontal steel plates. In the steel simple beam, it was found that the opening was in a position closer to the support point, half the height of the steel beam (D/2), which was more appropriate than the height of the steel beam (D). In addition, the reinforcement effect of horizontal steel plate was greater than that of vertical steel plate reinforcement. Structural performance was improved when there was no gap between openings and steel plates.

  • Dry shrinkage md temperature change cause to develope concrete bridge decks on main girders have initial unidirectional cracks in longitudinal or transverse direction. As they receive traffic loads, the crack gradually propagate in different directions depending on the concrete dimension and reinforcement ratio. Since existing equations that predict crack width are mostly based on the one directional bond-slip theory, it is difficult to determine the actual crack width of a bridge deck with varying the spacing of rebar or strengthening material and to estimate the improvement rate in serviceability of the strengthened bridge deck. In this study, crack propagation mechanism is identified based on the test results and a new crack prediction equation is proposed for evaluation of serviceability. Although more accurate results are derived using the proposed equation, the extent of error is increased as the strain of the rebar or the strengthening material increases after the yielding of rebar Therefore, further research is required to better predict the crack width after the rebar yields under fatigue loading condition.

  • The objective of this paper is to identify the compression forces and inelastic failure mode using stiffened steel plate-concrete structures. The compression tests were carried out for the three types of B/t ratios by 25, 33 and 50. The test results proved that the compressive strength of the stiffened SC structures can be estimated by the summation of the strengths both stiffened steel plate and concrete. The buckling of the steel plates had been occurred at the plates between studs. The empirical estimation of compressive strength for the stiffened SC structures under compressive loadings was suggested. The buckling behavior also compared with the results of the finite element analysis. The good agreement has been achieved between the experimental results and finite element results.

  • In the field of autonomous vehicles, where high accuracy and reliability are critical, various satellite navigation augmentation systems have been developed to improve system performance. These systems generate correction and integrity information based on measurements and navigation data collected from ground reference stations, enhancing user positioning accuracy. Thus, the performance of the system heavily relies on the deployment and spacing of reference stations. To construct an effective satellite navigation augmentation system, careful consideration must be given to the installation points of reference stations. This paper presents a user positioning performance modeling formula and proposes a method for selecting the installation points of new reference stations. The proposed method involves selecting a candidate group area that can optimize the user's positioning performance. By utilizing this method, the system's performance can be improved, ensuring high accuracy and reliability for autonomous vehicle applications.

  • The objective of this study is to determine the effect of the loading size on displacements of stiffened plates with open ribs using the orthotropic rigidity ratio as the parameter. To analyze the displacement behavior of stiffened plates according to the loading size, a concentrated load and three types of uniform distributed loads were applied on the rib at the center of some plates. The results of the analysis of various stiffened plates show that the central displacement ratio of the distributed load to the concentrated load increased according to the decrease in the loading size, and that the ratio can be expressed as a function of the rigidity ratio for each rib space. The maximum displacement of the stiffened plate subjected to the distributed load did not appear at the center of the plate due to the local behavior, and the increasing ratio of the maximum displacement to the central displacement can be expressed as a function of the rigidity ratio for each rib space. Orthotropic plate analysis can achieve more accurate results using the proposed functions, and the application of the functions to examples of a different aspect ratio and support condition shows good accuracy. Therefore, using the functions proposed in this study, the central and maximum displacements can easily be achieved in the orthotropic plate analysis of stiffened plates subjected to the distributed load.
