Data Prefetching Effect of the Stride Merging-Arrays Method (스트라이드 배열 병합 방법의 데이터 선인출 효과)

  • 데이타들에 대한 선인출 효과를 얻기 위하여 캐쉬 메모리의 캐쉬 블록은 다중 워드로 구성된다. 그러나 선인출된 데이타들이 사용되지 않을 경우 캐쉬 메모리가 낭비되고 따라서 캐쉬 실패율이 증가한다. 데이타 배열 병합 방법은 캐쉬 실패 원인의 하나인 캐쉬 충돌 실패를 감소시키기 위하여 사용되고 있다. 그러나 기존의 배열 병합 방법은 유용하지 못한 데이타들을 캐쉬 블록에 선인출하는 현상을 보인다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 현상을 개선한 스트라이드 배열 병합을 제안한다. 모의시험에서 캐쉬 블록이 다중 워드로 구성된 경우 스트라이드 배열 병합은 캐쉬 충돌 실패를 감소시킬 뿐 만 아니라 유용한 데이타 선인출을 증가 시키므로 캐쉬 성능을 향상시킴을 보여준다. 또한 이렇게 향상된 캐쉬 성능은 프로세서 증가에 따른 확장성 있는 프로그램 성능을 나타낸다.Abstract The cache memory is composed of cache lines with multiple words to achieve the effect of data prefetching. However, if the prefetched data are not used, the spaces of the cache memory are wasted and thus the cache miss rate increases. The data merging-arrays method is used for the sake of the reduction of the cache conflict misses. However, the existing merging-arrays method results in the useless data prefetching. In this paper, a stride merging-arrays method is suggested for improving this phenomenon. Simulation results show that when a cache line is composed of multiple words, the stride merging-arrays method increases the cache performance due to not only the reduction of cache conflict misses but also the useful data prefetching. This enhanced cache performance also represents the more scalable performance of parallel applications according to increasing the number of processors.

Characteristics of Infrared and Water Vapor Imagery for the Heavy Rainfall Occurred in the Korean Peninsula (한반도에서 발생하였던 집중호우 시 적외 및 수증기 영상의 특성)

  • In this study, we analyzed the spatio-temporal variations of satellite imagery for the two heavy rainfall cases (21 September, 2010, 9 August, 2011) occurred in the Korean Peninsula. In general, the possibility of strong convection can be increased when the region with plenty of moisture at the lower layer overlapped with the boundary between dark and bright area in the water vapor imagery. And the merging of convective cells caused by the difference in the moving velocities of two cells resulted in the intensification of convective activity and rainfall intensity. The rainfall intensity is more closely linked with the minimum cloud top temperature than the mean cloud top temperature. Also the spatio-temporal variations of rainfall intensity are impacted by the existence of merging processes. The merging can be predicted by the animation of satellite imagery but earlier detection of convective cells is almost impossible by using the infrared and water vapor imagery.

CU-based Merge Candidate List Construction Method for HEVC (HEVC를 위한 CU기반 병합 후보 리스트 구성 방법)

  • This paper proposes the CU-based approach for merge candidate list construction for providing reduced complexity and improved parallelism compared to the PU-based one. In the proposed method, a CU can have only one merge candidate list. So, Only one common merge candidate list is used for all PUs in a CU regardless of the PU partition type. The simulation results of proposed method showed that the encoder computational complexity was decreased by 3% to 6% and the decoder computational complexity was negligible change with the penalty of roughly 0.2% - 0.5% coding loss. The proposed method has several advantages: it provides simpler design, reduced complexity, and improved parallelism.

Dynamic Timeout Scheduling for Energy-Efficient Data Aggregation in Wireless Sensor Networks based on IEEE 802.15.4 (IEEE 802.15.4기반 무선센서네트워크에서 에너지 효율적인 데이터 병합을 위한 동적 타임아웃 스케줄링)

  • This paper proposes a dynamic timeout scheduling for energy efficient and accurate aggregation by analyzing the single hop delay in wireless sensor networks based on IEEE 802.15.4. The proposed scheme dynamically configures the timeout value depending on both the number of nodes sharing a channel and the type of wireless media, with considering the results of delay analysis of the single hop delay. The timeout of proposed scheme is much smaller than the maximum single hop delay which is used as the timeout of traditional data aggregation schemes. Therefore the proposed scheme considerably reduces the energy consumption of idle monitoring for waiting messages. Also, the proposed scheme maintains the data accuracy by guaranteeing the reception ratio required by the sensor network applications. Extensive simulation has revealed that proposed scheme enhances energy consumption by 30% with maintaining data accuracy, as compared with the TAG data aggregation.

Rate-distortion based image segmentation using recursive merging (반복적 병합을 이용한 율왜곡 기반 영상 분할)

  • In this paper, a rate-distortion based image segmentation algorithm is presented using a recursive merging with region adjacency graph (RAG). In the method, the dissimilarity between a pair of adjacent regions is represented as a Lagrangian cost function considered in rate-distortion sense. Lagrangian multiplier is estimated in each merging step, a pair of adjacent regions whose cost is minimal is searched and then the pair of regions are merged into a new region. The merging step is recursively performed until some termination criterion is reached. The proposed method thus is suitable for region-based coding or segmented-based coding. Experiment results for 256x256 Lena show that segmented-based coding using the proposed method yields PSNR improvement of about 2.5 - 3.5 dB. 0.8 -1.0 dB. 0.3 -0.6 dB over mean-difference-based method. distortion-based method, and JPEG, respectively.

Multispectral Mural Underdrawing Mosaic Technique (다중스펙트럼 기반 벽화 밑그림 영상 모자익 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a new accurate and robust image mosaic technique of the mural underdrawing taken from the infra-red camera, which is based on multiple image registration and adaptive blending technique. The image mosaicing methods which have been developed so far have the following deficits. It is hard to generate a high resolution image when there are regions that do not have features or intensity gradients, and there is a trade-off in overlapping region size in view of registration and blending. We consider these issues as follows. First, in order to mosaic images with neither noticeable features nor intensity gradients, we use a projected supplementary pattern and pseudo color image for features in the image pieces which are registered. Second, we search the overlapping region size with minimum blending error between two adjacent images and then apply blending technique to minimum error overlapping region. Finally, we could find our proposed method is more effective and efficient for image mosaicing than conventional mosaic techniques and also is more adequate for the application of infra-red mural underdrawing mosaicing. Experimental results show the accuracy and robustness of the algorithm

Effect of Chlorogenic Acid on the Concentrations of Serum and Hepatic Lipid in Rats (클로로겐산이 콜레스테롤 투여 흰쥐의 지질 농도에 미치는 영향)

  • Effect of chlorogenic acid, one of polyphenolic compounds, on the concentrations of lipid in serum and hepatic lipid, serum glucose, and urinary protein in Sprague Dawley rats for 14 days was investigated. The concentration of serum total cholesterol was increased in the cholesterol group compared with the control group, while it was decreased in the cholesterol+chlorogenic acid group. The concentrations of hepatic triacylglycerol and cholesterol were increased in the cholesterol group, while these were not altered by the supplementation of chlorogenic acid. The concentrations of serum glucose and urinary protein were higher in the cholesterol+chlorogenic acid group than the control and the cholesterol groups. These results suggest that chlorogenic acid exerts a hypocholesterolemic effect in the rats fed cholesterol.

Object Detection Method in Sea Environment Using Fast Region Merge Algorithm (해양환경에서 고속 영역 병합 알고리즘을 이용한 물표 탐지 기법)

  • In this paper, we present a method to detect an object such as ship, rock and buoy from sea IR image for the safety navigation. To this end, we do the image smoothing first and the apply watershed algorithm to segment image into subregions. Since watershed algorithm almost always produces over-segmented regions, it requires posterior merging process to get meaningful segmented regions. We propose an efficient merger algorithm that requires only two times of direct access to the pixels regardless of the number of regions. Also by analyzing IR image obtained from sea environments, we could find out that most horizontal edge come out from object regions. For the given input IR image we extract horizontal edge and eliminate isolated edges produced from background and noises by adopting morphological operator. Among the segmented regions, the regions that have horizontal edges are extracted as final results. Experimental results show the adequacy of the proposed method.

Combined Treatment of Acorn Pomace Extract, Fumaric Acid, and Mild Heat for Inactivation of Microorganisms on Red Chard (도토리박 추출물과 푸마르산 및 중온 열 병합처리에 의한 적근대의 미생물 제어 효과)

  • In this study, acorn pomace extract (APE) was developed as a natural chemical sanitizer and substitute for chlorine-based sanitizers such as sodium hypochlorite containing harmful substances. Antimicrobial activities of APE and its combined treatments with fumaric acid (FA) and mild heat against Listeria monocytogenes inoculated on red chard were examined. Among the treatments, combined treatment of 0.5% APE at $50^{\circ}C$ and 0.5% FA was the most effective, causing reduction of L. monocytogenes populations by 3.36 log CFU/g compared to the control. After combined treatment, populations of aerobic mesophilic bacteria in the red chard decreased by 2.89 log CFU/g during storage at $4^{\circ}C$ for 8 days compared to the control. Regarding color changes in red chard upon combined treatment, there was no significant change among the red chard samples. These results indicate that combined treatment of APE, FA, and mild heat can improve microbial safety of red chard without affecting quality such as color during storage.

Combined Treatment of Aqueous Chlorine Dioxide, Organic Acid, and Blanching for Microbial Decontamination of Wild Vegetables after Harvest (수확 후 산채류의 미생물 제어를 위한 이산화염소수와 유기산 및 Blanching 병합 처리)

  • To improve the microbiological safety of wild vegetables after harvest, Aster scaber and Cirsium setidens Nakai were treated with combinations of 50 ppm aqueous chlorine dioxide ($ClO_2$)/0.5% citric acid or fumaric acid, and 50 ppm $ClO_2$/0.5% fumaric acid/blanching at $90^{\circ}C$ for 2 min. Combined treatment of 50 ppm $ClO_2$ and 0.5% citric acid reduced populations of total aerobic bacteria, yeast, and molds in Aster scaber and Cirsium setidens Nakai by 2.80~3.64 and 2.02~2.67 log CFU/g, respectively, compared to those of the control. Combined treatment of 50 ppm $ClO_2$ and 0.5% fumaric acid reduced total aerobic bacteria, yeast and molds populations by 3.62~3.82 and 2.47~3.02 log CFU/g, respectively. Based on the results, combined treatment of $ClO_2$ and fumaric acid was more effective in controlling microorganisms in the wild vegetables than either $ClO_2$ or citric acid. In addition, combined treatment of $ClO_2$/fumaric acid/blanching reduced the populations of total aerobic bacteria by 4.59~5.12 log CFU/g, and populations of yeast and molds were not detected by treatment. These results suggest that combined treatment of $ClO_2$/fumaric acid/blanching is the most effective method for improving microbiological safety of wild vegetables after harvest.
