  • Human equivalent phantoms manufactured using 3D printers are cheaper and can be manufactured in a short time than conventional human phantoms. However, many phantoms are manufactured with less than 100 % of Infill Density, one of the 3D printer output setting variables. Therefore, this study compared the Bone Phantom CT number, which differs from the ratio of five Infill Density produced using a 3D printer, to the CT number of the actual human body Bone. In addition, the usefulness of the manufactured phantom was evaluated by producing a 100 % elbow joint phantom with Infill Density and setting the Infill Density to 100 % through CT number comparison for each tissue on computed tomography (CT). As a result, the Bone Phantom printed with 100 % Infill Density did not show the most statistically significant difference from the CT number value of the actual human Bone, and the CT number of each tissue did not show a statistically significant difference from the CT number value of each tissue of the actual human elbow joint.

  • This study focused on hand sanitizer as a medium that can replace ultrasonic gel, which is vulnerable to contamination by bacteria that reside on the hand. Hand sanitizer produces a strong sterilization effect from germs resident on the hands through different sterilization principles depending on the ingredients. Select products of gel type, cream type, and foam type, except for liquid type with low viscosity, and ultrasonically apply one 62% ethanol gel type and one cream type, one benzalkonium chloride 0.066% cream type and one foam type, respectively. Using ATS-539 as a medium, image evaluation was performed on the axial and lateral resolution and penetration depth, and the presence or absence of an air layer between the probe and the phantom. As a result, in the evaluation of the axial and lateral resolution and the depth of penetration, all four experimental groups met the evaluation criteria. However, in the case of the foam type, although it was suitable for the evaluation criteria of resolution and penetration depth, dark shadows appeared on both sides except for the center of observation during image evaluation. Through this experiment, it was possible to confirm the possibility that the remaining three types of hand sanitizers except the foam type could replace the ultrasonic gel.

  • The aim of this study is to evaluate the diagnostic ability of dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) for Composition determination of urinary stones in phantom model. Seventeen cases with urinary stones who underwent DECT were enrolled in the study. The composition of the urinary stones was extracted from the seventeen patients were analyzed with DECT in phantom model with fresh pork. The volume scan method using Dual-energy software was used and the scanned image sets were assessed. All 17 urinary stones of the phantom model were analyzed according to the stone composition using DE stone Analysis were divided into uric acid stones (n=6, 35.29%) and non-uric acid stones (n=11, 64.71%). These urinary stones were pathologically confirmed. The mean attenuation values of uric acid stones at 135 kV, 100 kV and 80 kV was 348.87 ± 166.37 HU, 345.33 ± 151.18 HU and 337.94 ± 172.77 HU, respectively. The mean attenuation values of non-uric acid stones at 135 kV, 100 kV and 80 kV was 551.93 ± 297.09 HU, 747.04 ± 351.31 HU and 958.19 ± 424.72 HU, respectively. At 80 kV, uric acid stones and non-uric acid stones showed significant difference in the attenuation values(P<0.05). The attenuation values of DECT could differentiate the compositions of urinary stones between uric acid and non-uric acid stones at 80 kV in phantom model.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze fabrics suitable for use as examination gowns to determine whether examination gowns affect imaging during anterior to posterior chest examinations(Chest AP) on a digital X-ray system. Examination gowns in use at five medical centers in Seoul were collected and included modal, tencel, cotton, and rayon fabrics. The selection of fabrics was based on studies that reported fabrics with good tactile, absorbent, stretchable, and wrinkle resistance. Phantoms of five hospital gowns and four fabrics, arranged in overlapping layers from one to eight, were created and examined on a digital X-ray system in both Chest AP examination. The images examined were subjected to a first-step profile analysis, a second-step signal intensity averaging analysis, and a third-step microscopic analysis. The results showed that all nine materials had an increasing impact on the image as the number of layers of fabric increased, with the modal fabric having the least impact on the image in the first, second, and third analyses. In conclusion, as the resolution of digital x-ray systems increases, the impact of examination clothing on the image will increase, and research to find suitable materials for examination clothing will continue to be necessary.

  • This study aimed to present reasonable reception bandwidth application standards for the purpose of suppressing metal objects during MRI examinations. For this purpose, T2 contrast images were acquired using high-speed spin echo technology on a phantom made of screws for spinal surgery, and metal objects were detected. In addition, images were obtained by increasing the reception bandwidth from 100 Hz/PX to 800 Hz/PX by 100 Hz/PX. The metal artifacts were determined as the sum of the areas of the signal attenuation area and the signal accumulation area. In addition, Pearson correlation analysis was performed to analyze the pattern of metal artifacts according to imaging variables. As a result, the signal accumulation area did not change significantly as the reception bandwidth increased (p>0.05), but the signal loss area and the area of metal artifacts decreased as the reception bandwidth increased (p<0.05). Interestingly, the area of metal objects decreased to a maximum in the section where the reception bandwidth was increased from 100 Hz/PX to 200 Hz/PX, consistent with the section where the echo spacing was reduced to a maximum due to the increase in reception bandwidth. In addition, the correlation analysis results also showed that the eco spacing was more related to the signal attenuation area and the area of metal objects than to the reception bandwidth. Therefore, if the reception bandwidth is increased for the purpose of reducing metal objects, it is reasonable to set it based on a value that minimizes the echo spacing in consideration of image quality factors.

  • This study aimed to present a method to effectively suppress metal artifacts caused by spinal fusion surgery during spinal MRI study. For this purpose, a phantom made of spinal surgery screws was created to reproduce the metal artifact. Then, images were acquired with 1.5T and 3.0T MRI to evaluate changes in metal artifacts according to magnetic field strength. In addition, metal artifacts were evaluated by increasing the receive bandwidth to 200, 400 and 800 Hz/PX. As a result, metal artifacts occurring in images obtained from the 1.5T MRI decreased by approximately 52.2% compared to images obtained from the 3.0T MRI, showing a significant difference (p<0.05). In particular, the signal loss and signal pile up areas were reduced by approximately 52.81% and 42.71%, respectively, showing a significant effect in suppressing metal artifacts. On the other hand, when images were acquired while increasing the receive bandwidth from 200 to 800 Hz/PX, there was no significant effect, with a decrease of up to 8.93% for the 1.5T MRI and up to 10.98% for the 3.0T MRI (p>0.05). As a result of this study, increasing the receive bandwidth reduced signal loss and reduced some metal artifacts, but did not have a significant effect because it did not suppress signal pile up. However, when the magnetic field strength was reduced from 3.0T to 1.5T, signal loss and signal pile up were greatly reduced, effectively improving the metal artifact. Therefore, in order to suppress metal artifacts caused by spinal fusion surgery, study using a low magnetic field MRI can be said to be the most effective method.

  • Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is an independent risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, and kidney disease, and the clinical importance of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease has recently been increasing. In this study, we aim to extract feature values by applying GLCM, a texture analysis method, to ultrasound images of patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. By applying an artificial neural network model using extracted feature values, we would like to classify the degree of fat deposition in non-alcoholic fatty liver into normal liver, mild fatty liver, moderate fatty liver, and severe fatty liver. As a result of applying the GLCM algorithm, the parameters Autocorrelation, Sum of squares, Sum average, and sum variance showed a tendency for the average value of the feature values to increase as it progressed from mild fatty liver to moderate fatty liver to severe fatty liver. The four parameters of Autocorrelation, Sum of squares, Sum average, and sum variance extracted by applying the GLCM algorithm to ultrasound images of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease were applied as inputs to the artificial neural network model. The classification accuracy was evaluated by applying the GLCM algorithm to the ultrasound images of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and applying the extracted images to an artificial neural network, showing a high accuracy of 92.5%. Through these results, we would like to present the results of this study as basic data when conducting a texture analysis GLCM study on ultrasound images of patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

  • Targeted radionuclide therapy (TRT) is a method of treating tumor cells using radiopharmaceuticals. Cells and nuclei constituting tissues of the human body are composed of spherical and oval shapes, but cancer cells are composed of various cell types. Therefore, this study analyzed the absorbed dose for each organelle according to the change in the size of the cell nucleus for beta-emitting nuclides during targeted radionuclide therapy through the Monte Carlo method. Cells were set in two sphere shapes, 5 ㎛ and 10 ㎛, and the internal structure was divided into cell nucleus, cytoplasm, and cell surface. Next, the absorbed dose according to the increase in the size of the cell nucleus was evaluated. As a result, 177Lu among the target radionuclides showed the highest dose in all cell compartments. As the ratio of the nucleus in the cell increased, the absorbed dose on the cell surface increased, but the absorbed dose in the cytoplasm and nucleus tended to decrease. Accordingly, it is judged that it is important to select a radionuclide considering the size of cancer cells and determine an appropriate amount of radioactivity during targeted radionuclide treatment.

  • Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide, and more than 604,000 new cases were reported in 2020 alone, resulting in approximately 341,831 deaths. The Cox regression model is a major model widely adopted in cancer research, but considering the existence of nonlinear associations, it faces limitations due to linear assumptions. To address this problem, this paper proposes ResSurvNet, a new model that improves the accuracy of cervical cancer mortality prediction using ResNet's residual learning framework. This model showed accuracy that outperforms the DNN, CPH, CoxLasso, Cox Gradient Boost, and RSF models compared in this study. As this model showed accuracy that outperformed the DNN, CPH, CoxLasso, Cox Gradient Boost, and RSF models compared in this study, this excellent predictive performance demonstrates great value in early diagnosis and treatment strategy establishment in the management of cervical cancer patients and represents significant progress in the field of survival analysis.

  • Purpose : Scapular dyskinesis, it have been shown to be common in overhead athletes and has been associated with RC muscle strength. Posterior shoulder tightness (PST) has been suggested as an important factor causing scapular dyskinesis. Therefore, rehabilitation programs should focus on a posterior shoulder stretch combined with scapular stabilization exercise (PSSE) intervention. Determine the effects of posterior shoulder stretch combined with scapular stabilization exercise on the rotator cuff (RC) muscles strength, functional strength ratio (FSR), range of motion (ROM), and pain. Methods : 30 adolescent baseball players participated and subjects were allocated PSSE group (n=15) or the SSE group (n=15). Both group performed a 6-weeks intervention and measured of isokinetic peak torque/body weight (PT/BW) of concentric external rotator (CER), eccentric external rotator (EER), concentric internal rotator (CIR), eccentric internal rotator (EIR), FSR, ROM, and pain. Results : After 6 weeks PSSE, significant increase CER PT/BW (+6.02±4.76 %), EER PT/BW (+5.39±4.22 %), EER to CIR ratio (+.17±.16), and internal rotation ROM (+15.08±3.57 °). Whereas, significant decrease EIR to CER ratio (-.14±.18), external rotation ROM (-12.00±6.94 °), and GIRD (-17.41±2.84 °) compared with pre-intervention. No significant difference of isokinetic PT/BW of CIR and EER post-intervention. In the SSE group showed no significant difference all measurements for isokinetic PT/BW, FSR, and ROM post-intervention. The pain was significant improve both PSSE group (-3.25±1.60) and SSE group (-2.83±1.85) post-intervention. Conclusion : Both the PSSE and SSE interventions led to more pain relief. However, only the PSSE group showed ROM, CER, EER PT/BW, and FSR improvements. These results might suggest that the PSSE intervention is a more effective program for improving RC muscle strength and balance, in particular, concentric and eccentric ER muscle strength, FSR and can expect to prevent shoulder injuries in adolescent baseball players with scapular dyskinesis.
