  • AGVS (Automated Guided Vehicle System) is a core technology of logistics automation which automatically moves specific objects or goods within a certain work space. Conventional AGVS generally requires the in-door localization system and each AGV equips expensive sensors such as laser, magnetic, inertial sensors for the route recognition and automatic navigation. thus the high installation cost is inevitable and there are many restrictions on route(path) modification or expansion. To address this issue, in this paper, we propose a cost-effective and scalable AGV based on a light-weight pattern recognition technique. The proposed pattern recognition technology not only enables autonomous driving by recognizing the route(path), but also provides a technique for figuring out the loc ation of AGV itself by recognizing the simple patterns(bar-code like) installed on the route. This significantly reduces the cost of implementing AGVS as well as benefiting from route modification and expansion. In order to verify the effectiveness of the proposed technique, we first implement a pattern recognition algorithm on a light-weight MCU(Micro Control Unit), and then verify the results by implementing an MCU_controlled AGV prototype.

Accident Prevention and Safety Management System for a Children School Bus (어린이 통학버스 사고 방지 및 안전 관리 시스템)

  • As the use of children's school buses increases, accidents caused by the negligence of school bus drivers and ride carers have also increased significantly. To prevent such accidents, the government is coming up with various policies. We propose an accident prevention and safety management system for children's school buses. Through this system, bus drivers can easily check whether each child is seated and whether the seat belt is used, so it is possible to quickly respond to children's conditions while driving. With the ability to recognize faces by analyzing camera images, children can use a seat belt that is automatically adjusted to their height. It is therefore possible to prevent secondary injuries that may occur in the event of a traffic accident. In addition, a sleeping child-check system is provided to confirm that all children get off the bus, and a text service is provided to inform parents of their children's locations in real time. Based on Raspberry Pi, the system is implemented with cameras, pressure sensors, motors, Bluetooth modules, and so on. This proposed system was attached to a bus model to confirm that the series of functions work correctly.

Adoption of the Use of Smart Technology by Health-care Workers in Nursing Homes: an Exploratory Study (노인요양시설의 스마트 기술 도입에 대한 탐색적 연구 -요양시설 종사자 답변을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this exploratory study is to examine if the application of smart technology(ST) would assist adjustment to the nursing home facilities in the elderly. Since there is not much previous research on this subject, we generated survey questionnaires on our own. Data were collected from the survey of 127 employees at 6 nursing homes including geriatric care workers, social workers and nurses who provide direct as well as indirect care services. Results showed that the utilization of ST would benefit the areas of family relationship support, health support, leisure support, and physical environment adjustment. As for physical environment adjustment, study participants reported that ST would help elders familiarize employees and find directions for specific space the most. As for health support, ST would be best utilized as a security sensor and program alarm system. As for support for family relationship, ST was expected to be utilized as looking at family pictures and playing with self pictures/videos. As for leisure support, ST was expected to assist elders to listen to music and watch movies/TV. These results were different according to the characteristics of the participants and the smartifacts. These results of the study will show the direction for more in-depth studies on application of smart technology for the elderly in the future.

A Study on the Foot Plantar Pressure and Temperature changes of the Developed Combat boots with Functional Impact Absorption and Ventilation Insole (충격흡수 및 통기기능 인솔을 적용한 개발 전투화의 족저압력 및 온도변화 연구)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the foot plantar pressure and temperature changes of the developed combat boots with functional impact absorption and ventilation insole. A total of 11 male subjects(age: $21.8{\pm}2.2yrs$, height: $174.3{\pm}3.6cm$, weight: $71.6{\pm}8.6kg$, foot length: $261.0{\pm}1.0mm$) were recruited to compare the foot plantar pressure and temperature changes of the three types of combat boots: Combat boots A (generalized combat boots), Combat boots B (developed combat boots with ventilation function), Combat boots C (Application of ventilation function and impact absorption insole to combat boots B). Pedar-X and a portable thermistor temperature sensor were used to measure the foot plantar pressure parameters and the internal temperature of the combat boots, respectively. One-way ANOVA was used to compare the results of plantar pressure and temperature changes. The results were as follows: First, in the foot plantar pressure parameters, combat boots C showed the significant lower maximum foot plantar pressure in the right/left rear foot compared with combat boots A and average foot plantar pressure in the left foot compared with combat boots B. Second, after 40 minutes from the start of walking, the developed combat boots B and C showed the significant lower temperature than the general combat boots A.

Study on the Viscous Roll Damping around Circular Cylinder Using Forced Oscillations (강제동요를 이용한 원형실린더 점성 롤댐핑 연구)

  • The roll damping problem in the design of ships and offshore structures remains a challenge to many researchers due to the fluid viscosity and nonlinearity of the phenomenon itself. In this paper, the study on viscous roll damping of a circular cylinder was carried out using forced oscillations. The roll moment generated by forced oscillation using a torque sensor was measured for each forced oscillation period and compared with the empirical formula. Although the magnitude of the measured torque from the shear force was relatively small, the results were qualitatively similar to those obtained from the empirical formula, and showed good agreement with the quantitative results in some oscillation periods. In addition, the flow around the circular cylinder wall was observed closely through the PIV measurements. Owing to the fluid viscosity, a boundary layer was formed near the wall of the circular cylinder, and a minute wave was generated by periodical forced oscillations at the free surface through the PIV measurement. In this study, the suitability of the empirical formula for the roll moment caused by viscous roll damping was verified by model tests. The wave making phenomenon due to the fluid viscosity around the wall of a circular cylinder was testified by PIV measurements.

Guidedwave-induced rockbolt integrity using Fourier and wavelet transforms (유도파에 대한 푸리에 및 웨이브렛 변환을 이용한 록볼트의 건전도 평가)

  • As rock bolts become one of the main support systems in tunnels and underground structures, the integrity of the rock bolts affects the safety of these types of structures. The purpose of this study is the evaluation of rock bolt integrity using Fourier and wavelet transforms of the guided ultrasonic waves. After five rock bolt specimens with various defect ratios are embedded into a large scale concrete block, guided waves are generated by a PZT (lead zirconate titanate) element and measured by an acoustic emission (AE) sensor. The captured signals are analyzed in the frequency domain using the Fourier transform, and in the time-frequency domain using the wavelet transform based on a Gabor wavelet. The spectrum obtained from the Fourier transform shows that a portion of high frequency contents increases with increase in the defect ratio. Peak values in the time-frequency domain represent the interval of travel time of each echo. The energy velocities of the guided waves increase with the defect ratio. This study shows that the spectrum ratio and the energy velocity may be indicators fur the evaluation of rock bolt integrity.

Computer Interface for the Disabled Using Gyro-sensors and Artificial Neural Network (자이로 센서와 인공신경망을 이용한 장애인용 컴퓨터)

  • This paper aims at developing 'gyro-mouse' which provides decent and comfortable human-computer interface that supports the usage of such software as an internet-browser in PC for the people paralyzed in upper limbs. This interface operates on information collected from head movement to get the cursor control. The interface is composed of two modules. One is hardware module in which the head horizontal and vertical angular velocities are detected and transmitted into PC. The other is a PC software that translates the received data into movement and click signals of the mouse. The ANN (artificial neural network) learns the quick nodding pattern of each user as click input so that it can provide user-friendly interface. The performance of the system was evaluated by three indices that are click recognition rate. error in cursor position control. and click rate of the moving target box. The performance result of the gyro-mouse was compared with that of the optical-mouse to assess the efficiency of the gyro-mouse. The average click recognition rate was 93%, average error in cursor position control was 1.4∼5 times of optical mouse. and the click rate with 50 pixels target box was 40%(30 clicks/min) to that of optical mouse. The click rate increased monotonously with the number of trial from 35% to 44%. The suggested system is expected to provide a new possibility to communicate with the society.

Influence factor analysis on the measurement of smoke density from floor materials in rolling stock (철도차량 바닥재 연기밀도 측정의 영향인자분석)

  • In this study, we investigated the effect of factors that influence the measurement of smoke density using synthetic rubber flooring. The characteristics of rolling stock in an enclosed environment can cause enormous loss of life by smoke inhalation during fires inside passenger cars. The amount of smoke generation from interior materials for rolling stock is strictly restricted domestically and in other countries. Precise measurement of smoke density is therefore required to assess the fire performance of interior materials. Major factors that influence the measurement of smoke density include the uniformity of the specimen, the variations in conditions and instruments, and the operational and maintenance environment of the instruments. The contribution of factors was analyzed by estimating the uncertainty to investigate the contribution ratios of the major factors. The results show a contribution ratio of about 86% for the variation from the measurement of light transmission using a photomultiplier tube. Thus, this factor was the most representative for the measurement of smoke density. The contribution ratio of the other factors was low at about 11%, including irradiant flux conditions (${\pm}0.5 kW/m^2$) and the influence of the operational and maintenance environment of the instrument. These results were obtained using specimens with high uniformity.

Application of Satellite Data Spatiotemporal Fusion in Predicting Seasonal NDVI (위성영상 시공간 융합기법의 계절별 NDVI 예측에서의 응용)

  • Fine temporal and spatial resolution of image data are necessary to monitor the phenology of vegetation. However, there is no single sensor provides fine temporal and spatial resolution. For solve this limitation, researches on spatiotemporal data fusion methods are being conducted. Among them, FSDAF (Flexible spatiotemporal data fusion) can fuse each band in high accuracy.In thisstudy, we applied MODIS NDVI and Landsat NDVI to enhance time resolution of NDVI based on FSDAF algorithm. Then we proposed the possibility of utilization in vegetation phenology monitoring. As a result of FSDAF method, the predicted NDVI from January to December well reflect the seasonal characteristics of broadleaf forest, evergreen forest and farmland. The RMSE values between predicted NDVI and actual NDVI (Landsat NDVI) of August and October were 0.049 and 0.085, and the correlation coefficients were 0.765 and 0.642 respectively. Spatiotemporal data fusion method is a pixel-based fusion technique that can be applied to variousspatial resolution images, and expected to be applied to various vegetation-related studies.

  • This research aims at developing a new method which can replace the existing method. known as the quality factor(Q factor) method by an L-R-C test for use in the performance test of inductive loop detectors(ILD) being installed and maintained. In this study, a sensor to detect a magnetic field in terms of frequency and intensity, a method to collect field data, the method of analysis, and the method of diagnosis were developed. An automatic diagnosis system which was developed to overcome those drawbacks has the following features : First, field data is collected automatically by a test vehicle equipped with magnetic field sensors that is running can be said to along the roadway and. thus, the new system completely overcome the roadway and, thus, the new system can be said to completely overcome the inefficiency of the existing method second, since the magnetic fold generated from the ILD is the final output of the whole system of ILD, the existing problem has been solved. third. since each of the detection area by height is collected by the magnetic sensors installed by height. a basic for the identification of the vehicle types to be detectable and the setting of adjustment factors has been made. For the automatic diagnosis system developed during in this study, a reliability test was carried out by comparing vehicle times of ILD installed ideally.
