A study for Hydrological Infiltration Properties of Permeable Pavement (투수성 포장재의 수문학적 침투 특성에 관한 연구)

  • 최근 급격한 도시화는 홍수량 증가 및 갈수 시 하천의 건천화 등 유역의 유출특성 변화를 가져왔다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 문제를 해결하는 방안 중 하나인 투수성 포장의 유역 내 수문학적 효과를 분석하였다. 이를 위해 투수성 포장을 이용한 수리모형 실험 및 수치모형(SWMM)을 병행하여 수행하였다. 연구에 사용한 수치모형은 기존 도시유출 모형인 SWMM(Storm Water Management Model) 모형에 투수성 포장의 수문학적 효과를 고려할 수 있도록 수정된 모형이며, 수리모형 실험 결과를 토대로 수치모형의 중요 매개변수를 추정하였다. 또한 실험에 의해 관측된 지표 및 지하수 유출량과 수치모형에 의해 산출된 자료를 비교.분석하여 수정된 SWMM 모형의 유용성을 평가하였다. 강우강도가 65 mm/hr, 90 mm/hr, 95 mm/hr인 강우를 4시간씩 공급하는 경우에 대한 3가지 수리모형 실험을 수행하였다. 수리모형실험 결과 강우강도는 지표면 유출의 크기에 직접적인 영향을 미치고 있었으며 지하수 유출량은 강우강도 보다는 지하수위 조건에 더 큰 영향을 받는 것으로 분석되었다. 수리모형 실험결과 및 수치모형 모의결과를 비교 분석한 결과, 토양 함수량 및 지하수위 변동 특성은 초기에서 정상상태로 전이되는 부분과 강우 정지 후 감소되는 부분에서 수리모형 실험과 다른 양상을 보였다. 지하수위는 실험 시 발생하는 공기층의 포집이 많은 영향을 미치고 있음을 알 수 있었고, 함수량 변화에 있어서는 수치모형(SWMM)의 모의 결과가 과도하게 감소하는 특성을 보여 주고 있었다. 즉, 유출량의 특성은 비슷한 양상을 보이고 있으나 지하수위 변화 및 토양 내 함수량 변화 예측에 있어서는 그 정확도가 떨어지는 것으로 평가되었다. 그러나 본 연구결과를 통하여 투수성 포장과 지하수에 관련된 매개변수의 집적과 분석결과는 현장기술 적용 시 매개변수의 유용한 선택과 도시유역의 물 순환 건전화 대안기술 적용에 효과적인 방법론을 제시할 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

The riparian vegetation community models according to hydrologic and soil environments - Case of Daecheongho lake reservoirs - (수문 및 토양환경을 고려한 수변식생군락 조성 모델 - 대청호 저수지를 사례로 -)

  • The riparian vegetation is one of corridor type ecosystems, an ecotone and able to improve the ecological soundness by structural and functional link. And they act as habitats, sources and sinks of species, conduits, filters and barriers. This study was carried out to develop the vegetation model for the fluctuation areas of lake reservoirs consider of hydrologic and soil environments according to the vegetation structure of the reference ecosystem. To develop the case study, 2 sites within 10degree slope of the Daecheong Lake were selected. The riparian vegetation models were built by the results of GIS analysis, remote satellite analysis, field survey results, consider of water level, flooded frequency, soil and topographic index, land cover or land use etc. 1) study area varied from FWL to -5m of NFWL, 2) slope 10% below, 3) vegetations flooded below 100days yearly are Salix koreensis, Salix chaenomeloides, Salix gracilistyla, 4)land cover type classified wildlife grassland, abandoned paddy field, cropland according to landuse (or landcover), 5)finally model was constructed as ecological landscape forest. The model designs were suggested by 2 types in Daecheong lake reservoir. The model for the riparian vegetation corridors could be the basic and useful data to improve the ecological and landscape properties.

Evaluation of Groundwater Quality Characteristics around Uncontrolled Closed Valley Landfill (사용종료 비위생매립지 주변 지하수의 수질변화 특성)

  • This study evaluated groundwater quality around an uncontrolled landfill in W sity, Korea, which was monitored for about two years (2005-2006). Parameters of concern include redox-sensitive indicators such as pH, DO, EC, ORP, DOC (dissolved organic carbon), NH3, NO3 and SO4. About 10 years have elapsed after closing dumping of municipal wastes in the landfill. Leachates showed widely varying concentrations in COD(136${\sim}$263 mg/L), T-N(121${\sim}$186 mg/L), and NH3-N(14${\sim}$369 mg/L). Groundwater at the immediate downgradient of the landfill showed weakly acidic pH condition but very high levels of EC (3,000-4,000 ${\mu}S/cm$), which indicated that the groundwater was largely affected by the landfill leachate. Cl, a conservative ion, showed over 200 mg/L at the landfill border, but a gradually decreasing level with distance from the landfill, representing dispersion and dilution (natural attenuation) due to mixing with surrounding groundwater and replenished rainwater. Redox potential showed negative value at the landfill border but it increased up to 350 mV at downgradient wells, which indicated conversion of redox condition from reducing oxic ones. Ammonia, was largely enriched at most of the monitoring wells and its level greatly exceeded drinking water standard. In summary, all the parameters evidenced occurrence of natural attenuation with distance and with time but further monitoring is still required.

Growth of $LiTaO_3$ and Fe doped-LiTaO3 single crystal as holographic storage material (홀로그래피 소자재료 $LiTaO_3$단결정 성장)

  • The single crystal of the $LiTaO_3$has large electro-optic effects, so it is applied to optical switch, acousto-optic deflector, and optical memory device as hologram using photorefractive effect. In this study, optic-grade undoped $LiTaO_3$and Fe:LiTaO$LiTaO_3$single crystals were grown by the Czochralski method and optical transmission and absorption spectrums were measured in the wavelength of UV-VIS range. The curie temperature was determined with DSC and by measuring capacitance for the grown undoped crystal and ceramic powder samples of various Li/Ta ratio. In case of having a 48.6 mol% $Li_2O$ as a starting Li/Ta ratio, the results of concentration variations were below 0.01 mol% $Li_2O$ all over the crystal, so it was confirmed that $LiTaO_3$single crystals were grown under congruent melting composition having optical homogeneity. The curie temperature of the Fe:$LiTaO_3$crystal was increased with increased with increased doped Fe concentrations;by the ratio of $7.5^{\circ}C$ increase per Fe 0.1 wt%. Also, the optical transmittance was about 78 %, which was sufficient for optical device.

Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy with Biweekly Gemcitabine and Cisplatin in Patients with Locally Advanced Non-small Cell Lung Cancer (진행성 비소세포폐암 환자에서 Gemcitabine/Cisplatin을 이용한 동시 화학 방사선 요법)

  • Purpose: In cases of locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), concurrent chemoradiotherapy(CCRT) is the leading therapeutic modality. However, much controversy exists about the chemotherapeutic regimens and radiation methods. Materials and Methods: During concurrent chemoradiotherapy, three or four cycles of gemcitabine ($500\;mg/m^2$) and cisplatin ($30\;mg/m^2$) were administered every two weeks while 50.4 Gy of irradiation was administered in 28 fractions (once/day, 5 treatment days/week) to the tumor site, mediastinum, and the involved lymph node region. In addition, a booster irradiation dose of 18 Gy in 10 fractions was administered to the primary tumor site unless the disease progressed. Two or three cycles of consolidation chemotherapy were performed with gemcitabine ($1,200\;mg/m^2$, $1^{st}$ and 8th day) and cisplatin ($60\;mg/m^2$) every three weeks. Results: A total of 29 patients were evaluable for modality response. Response and treatment toxicities were assessed after concurrent chemoradiotherapy and consolidation chemotherapy, respectively. One patient (4%) achieved a complete response; whereas 20 patients (69%) achieved a partial response after concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Following the consolidation chemotherapy, three patients (10.3%) achieved complete responses and 21 patients (72.4%) achieved partial responses. The median follow-up period was 20 months (range $3{\sim}39$ months) and the median survival time was 16 months (95% CI; $2.4{\sim}39.2$ months). The survival rates in one, two, and three years after the completion of treatment were 62.7%, 43.9%, and 20%, respectively. Complications associated to this treatment modality included grade 3 or 4 esophagitis, which occurred in 15 patients (51.7%). In addition, an incidence of 24% for grade 3 and 14% for grade 4 neutropenia. Lastly, grade 2 radiation pneumonitis occurred in 6 patients (22%). Conclusion: The response rate and survival time of concurrent chemoradiotherapy with biweekly gemcitabine ($500\;mg/m^2$) and cisplatin ($30\;mg/m^2$) were encouraging in patients with locally advanced NSCLC. However, treatment related toxicities were significant, indicating that further modification of therapy seems to be warranted.

Fly Ash Application Effects on CH4 and CO2 Emission in an Incubation Experiment with a Paddy Soil (항온 배양 논토양 조건에서 비산재 처리에 따른 CH4와 CO2 방출 특성)

  • To estimate potential use of fly ash in reducing $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ emission from soil, $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ fluxes from a paddy soil mixed with fly ash at different rate (w/w; 0, 5, and 10%) in the presence and absence of fertilizer N ($(NH_4)_2SO_4$) addition were investigated in a laboratory incubation for 60 days under changing water regime from wetting to drying via transition. The mean $CH_4$ flux during the entire incubation period ranged from 0.59 to $1.68mg\;CH_4\;m^{-2}day^{-1}$ with a lower rate in the soil treated with N fertilizer due to suppression of $CH_4$ production by $SO_4^{2-}$ that acts as an electron acceptor, leading to decreases in electron availability for methanogen. Fly ash application reduced $CH_4$ flux by 37.5 and 33.0% in soils without and with N addition, respectively, probably due to retardation of $CH_4$ diffusion through soil pores by addition of fine-textured fly ash. In addition, as fly ash has a potential for $CO_2$ removal via carbonation (formation of carbonate precipitates) that decreases $CO_2$ availability that is a substrate for $CO_2$ reduction reaction (one of $CH_4$ generation pathways) is likely to be another mechanisms of $CH_4$ flux reduction by fly ash. Meanwhile, the mean $CO_2$ flux during the entire incubation period was between 0.64 and $0.90g\;CO_2\;m^{-2}day^{-1}$, and that of N treated soil was lower than that without N addition. Because N addition is likely to increase soil respiration, it is not straightforward to explain the results. However, it may be possible that our experiment did not account for the substantial amount of $CO_2$ produced by heterotrophs that were activated by N addition in earlier period than the measurement was initiated. Fly ash application also lowered $CO_2$ flux by up to 20% in the soil mixed with fly ash at 10% through $CO_2$ removal by the carbonation. At the whole picture, fly ash application at 10% decreased global warming potential of emitted $CH_4$ and $CO_2$ by about 20%. Therefore, our results suggest that fly ash application can be a soil management practice to reduce green house gas emission from paddy soils. Further studies under field conditions with rice cultivation are necessary to verify our findings.
