An experimental analysis of the sound reduction characteristics of air transparent noise barriers (통기형 방음벽의 음향감쇠 특성에 대한 실험적 분석)

  • The present study describes the acoustical characteristics of the new noise barriers which can control not only noise but also wind pressure by allowing air flow through barriers. In order to investigate the sound reduction index of the air transparent noise barrier, 17 models in total were examined with various size of openings and the volume of the resonators. As a result, it was found that the sound reduction index varies with the volume of the resonator and the area of the openings. Also, it was revealed that double layer of units has more sound reduction index than the single layer of unit at the frequency band from 400 Hz to 1250 Hz. This denoted that physical features of openings and resonators affect the sound reduction index of the air transparent noise barrier.

  • Traffic volume has been greatly increasing due to urban development and the improvement of living standards, and many complaints are being raised due to the increasing road noise. As a countermeasure against these problems, highly soundproof walls are installed on the sides of roads. However, the ability to bear wind loads is a major design requirement for soundproof walls, which contributes to the exponential increases in construction costs and restricts the height of the walls. The aim of this study is to improve the performance of soundproof walls and to dramatically reduce wind loads while maintaining excellent price competitiveness. Based on Helmholz's resonator theory, a new concept is proposed for a ventilation-type soundproofing plate that can pass through a fluid like air and reduce noise. A full-scale metal soundproofing plate was produced to satisfy the quality standards of highways by conducting a sound-pressure transmission-loss test, wind tunnel test, and material quality test. To verify the reliability, the wall was manufactured and installed, and the sound insulation effect was examined by measuring the noise over time. In the future, ventilated soundproof walls on roads could create a pleasant living environment due to the high noise-insulation effect.

  • Noise barrier is used to reduce traffic noise. The effect of a noise barrier depends not only on the materials, but also on the physical properties such as density, height and degree of absorption, etc. Typical absorptive noise barrier is used sound absorbing material, such as glass wool and mineral wool. The goal of this study is to develope excellent absorptive noise barrier using a polyester. Laboratory measurements were peformed with various thicknesses, density and layer of absorber in a reverberation room.

  • The Insulation, which is consist of the glass wool, mineral wool or perforated SUS plate, installed on the wall or under ceiling for the protecting heat and the blocking the noise of engine room area. In our shipyard, designing the structure model of insulation is hard and difficult, Because designed the insulation model is considered of any factors which are hull model properties of panel shape, direction and thickness and service of area. In this paper, We issue the way to utilize shape and direction of the hull model information and specific character of working space in engine room.

A Study on the Development of Sound Absorption Material Using Perlite for Noise Barrier Wall (펄라이트를 이용한 방음벽의 흡음소재 개발에 관한 기초적 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the optimal mix design of the sound absorption material that is made from perlite and various binder systems for noise barrier wall. The polymer cement slurry which is made from two types of polymer dispersions, and silicone type inorganic material are used as binder. The test specimens are prepared with various polymer cement ratios, binder ratios, and tested for strengths, freezing and thawing and sound absorption performance by the tube and the reverberation room methods. From the test results, the difference of sound absorption coefficient by the tube method is a little recognized, however, noise reduction coefficient (NRC) of test specimens bound by the polymer cement slurry is in the ranges of 0.48 to 0.51. They are a little higher than those bound by cement only, and are lower values than recommended value of 0.7 by the Ministry of Environment. However, the sound absorption coefficient of test specimens at low frequency range of 250 to 500 Hz by reverberation room method shows very high values as 0.84 to 1.00, and 0.57 to 0.77 at the high frequency. The test specimens with polymer cement slurry binder have a good balance between performance and cost, and have proper properties in strengths, freezing and thawing resistance as sound absorption material for noise barrier wall. It is apparent that the good sound absorption material can be produced according to the optimum mix design that is recommended from this study.

Proposal of a New Type of 4-Lane Soundproof Tunnel Girder and Structural Performance Evaluation (4차선급 신형식 방음터널 거더 제안 및 구조적 성능평가)

  • The soundproof tunnels have been generally designed with H-beam girders, and the high weight of H-beam may cause the excessive design of the substructure. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a new soundproof tunnel girder design composed of pipes and discontinuous plates. First, the structural behavior of the straight girder according to the design parameters was examined through finite element analysis. The arrangement and shape of the plates were determined as the design parameter, to obtain the optimal design of girder. After then, the structural behavior and buckling stability of the arched girder were subsequently evaluated. As a result of the parameter analysis, it was confirmed that the axial force acting on the girder increased and the moment decreased as the ratio of unsupported sections decreased or the number of supporting plates increased. The stress concentration on the pipe member was relieved by increasing the long axis length of the elliptical plate. Arched girder analysis showed that the structural efficiency increase as the long axis of elliptical plate increase. As a result of the buckling evaluation, the buckling threshold load of the three connected girders was about 3.7 times higher than the design load. Consequently, it was confirmed that the proposed soundproof tunnel structure design satisfies both light weight and structural safety.

Examination of Method of an Aircraft Noise Reduction -Mainly the Window Installation Conditions- (항공기소음 저감방안에 대한 검토 -창호설치조건을 중심으로-)

  • 공항에 인접한 주거지역에서 항공기 소음문제로 인하여 거주자들에게 소음피해가 발생하고 있다. 이러한 항공기소음을 저감하기 위한 방법 중 건물외피를 차음성능이 높은 구조로 변경하여 건축물의 차음량을 개선시키는 수음원 대책이 일반적으로 사용되고 있다. 특히 건축물 방음시설 설치는 건물외피 중 외부소음에 가장 취약한 창호의 차음량을 증가시키는 것이 효과적인데, 본 연구에서는 기존 창호에 비하여 차음성능이 높은 창호를 교체 설치하여 건축물의 차음량 개선치를 $L_{max}$, SEL, $L_{eq}$로 각각 검토 비교함과 동시에 창호의 기밀성능을 위한 기밀재 및 추가 모헤어의 설치조건에 따른 차음성능을 검토해 보았다. 측정결과 방음시설 설치 후 항공기소음을 $L_{max}$, SEL, $L_{eq}$로 차음량 개선치를 각각 평가한 결과 1.8dB 이내의 편차를 갖는 것으로 나타났으며, 창의 차음성능 개선치는 기밀재 설치 후 $R'45^{\circ}$,w가 5dB, 기밀재 및 추가 모헤어 설치 후 8dB로 나타났다.
