  • 차세대관리 종합공정(Advanced spent fuel Conditioning Process)은 사용후핵연료의 안전하고 효율적인 관리를 위하여 제시된 건식처리공정으로 사용후핵연료를 금속으로 전환하고, 고발열성 핵종(Cs, Sr)을 효율적으로 제거하여 사용후핵연료의 부피, 발열량 및 방사선의 세기를 최대 1/4까지 감소시키고, 처분용기의 소요량과 처분장의 소요면적을 1/2 이상으로 축소함으로서 처분 안전성과 경제성을 높일 수 있는 장점으로 인해 연구개발 중에 있으며, 이의 실증시험 수행을 위하여 ${\alpha}-{\gamma}$ type의 핫셀을 건설 중에 있다.(중략)

  • 국내 에너지의 장기적인 수요상황을 볼 때 원자력 발전의 비중이 확대되는 것은 불가피 하므로 환경 친화적인 사용 후 핵연료의 관리 및 고준위 폐기물의 처분방안의 마련은 원자력의 개발만큼이나 중요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 방사성 폐기물의 효율적인 관리와 저장 및 열제거를 위하여 최적 환기시스템을 적용한 처분장 설계를 목적으로 여러 환기시스템 설계안을 비교 분석하였다. 분석결과, 8가지 중 case 4(병렬회로)와 case 6(혼합 Diagonal 회로)의 환기효율이 우수한 결과를 나타냈으며, 이와 같은 연구를 통해 환경 친화적인 처분장의 건설이 가능할 것이다.

Evaluation of mechanical properties of KURT granite under simulated coupled condition of a geological repository (복합 처분환경 모사조건에서의 KURT 화강암의 역학적 물성 변화 평가)

  • The rock properties measured under in-situ geological condition can be used to increase the reliability in numerical simulations with regard to the long-term performance of a high-level waste repository. In this study, the change in mechanical properties of KURT (Korea atomic energy research institute Underground Research Tunnel) granite was evaluated under the simulated THM (Thermo-Hydro-Mechanical) coupled condition due to a deep geological formation in the disposal repository. The rock properties such as uniaxial compression strength, indirect tensile strength, elastic modulus and Poisson's ratio were measured under the coupled test conditions (M, HM, TM, THM). It was found that the mechanical properties of KURT granite is more susceptible to the change in saturation rather than temperature within the test condition of this study. The changes in uniaxial compression strength and indirect tensile strength from the rock samples of dried or saturated conditions showed the maximum relative error of about 20% and 13% respectively under the constant temperature condition. Therefore, it is necessary to use the material properties of rock measured under the coupled THM condition as input parameters for the numerical simulation of long-term performance assessment of a disposal repository

A Study on the Determination of the Seasonal Heat Transfer Coefficient in KURT Under Forced Convection (강제대류시 계절에 따른 KURT 내 열전달계수 결정에 관한 연구)

  • In a high-level waste (HLW) repository, heat is generated by the radioactive decay of the waste. This can affect the safety of the repository because the surrounding environment can be changed by the heat transfer through the rock. Thus, it is important to determine the heat transfer coefficient of the atmosphere in the underground repository. In this study, the heat transfer coefficient was estimated by measuring the indoor environmental factors in the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute Underground Research Tunnel (KURT) under forced convection. For the experiment, a heater of 5 kw capacity, 2 meters long, was inserted through the tunnel wall in the heating section of KURT in order to heat up the inside of the rock to $90^{\circ}C$, and fresh air was provided by an air supply fan connected to the outside of the tunnel. The results showed that the average air velocity in the heating section after the provision of the air from outside of the tunnel was 0.81 m/s with the Reynolds number of 310,000~340,000. The seasonal heat transfer coefficient in the heating section under forced convection was $7.68\;W/m^2{\cdot}K$ in the summer and $7.24\;W/m^2{\cdot}K$ in the winter.

  • 고준위 방사성 폐기물 영구처분 안전성을 평가하기 위하여 입력 자료로 처분장 주변 각 암 반에서의 지하수 유동 속도 및 유동 시간이 요구된다. 이러한 유동 속도와 시간은 대부분의 경우 단일 값이 요구되지만 고준위 방사성 처분의 경우 지하 매질의 불확실성을 고려하기 위하여 확률론적 분석이 요구된다. 지하수 유동 속도 및 시간이 확률밀도함수로 표시되기 위해서는 기존의 방법에서는 수리 해석의 입력 인자 값들을 변화시키면서 반복적인 계산을 수행하는 방법이 사용되었다. 그러나 이러한 방법론의 한계를 극복하기 위해 최근 섭동 이론을 이용한 adjoint 방법론이 사용되고 있는 바 이를 이용하여 가상 처분장에서의 지하수 유동 속도와 시간을 확률론적으로 해석하였다.

  • A parametric sensitivity to the annual exposure dose rate to the farming exposure group has been probabilistically carried out for three principal elements associated with the nuclide transport behavior in the near-field of the pyroprocessed waste repository system. Credit time for both metal and ceramic containers, annual nuclide release rete, and the degree of loss of bentonite buffer around the container are selected as the elements and investigated for important nuclides. All the elements are shown to be sensitive to the results. Methodology studied through this study and the results are expected to make a good feedback to the repository design. As a follow-up study, separated in Part 2, the A-KRS will be deterministically assessed and then compared among each other with the normal, the worst, and the best case scenarios associated with their extreme values these elements could have.

  • In this paper, we present an integrated management system for radioactive waste, which can keep watch on the whole transporting process of each drum from nuclear power plant temporary storage house to radioactive waste storage house remotely. Our approach use RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) system, which can recognize the data information without touch, GSP system, which can calculate the current position precisely using the accurate time and distance measured from satellites, and the spread spectrum technology CDMA, which is widely used in the area of mobile communication.

A Conservative Safety Study on Low-Level Radioactive Waste Repository Using Radionuclide Release Source Term Model (선원항 모델을 사용한 저준위 방사성폐기물 처분장의 보수적인 안전성고찰)

  • A simplified safety assessment is carried out on rock-cavern type disposal of LLW using the analytical repository source term (REPS) model. For reliable prediction of the leach rates for various radionuclides, degradation of concrete structures, corrosion rate of waste container, degree of corrosion on the container surface, and the characteristics of radionuclides are considered in the REPS model. The results of preliminary assessment show that Cs-137, Ni-63, and Sr-90 are dominant. For the parametric uncertainty and sensitivity analysis, Latin hypercube sampling technique and rank correlation technique are applied. The results of the potential public health impacts show that radiological dose to intruder in the worst case scenario will be negligible and that more attention should be given to near-field performance.
