This study investigated the effect of listening to music on the reduction of public speech anxiety among middle-school female students. The subjects were 66 female first graders, 33 of the experimental and another 33 of the control group selected from two classes of C middle school in Chonan city. The level of anxiety (SAS) was rated by the subjects through self-report and the speech behavior (SBES) of the subjects were evaluated by a teacher before, a week after and two weeks after the speech trials. 64 pieces of music were selected based on the music therapy-related references. After 23 out of 64 pieces were selected for the preliminary experiment and 7 pieces as having positive effects through evaluating those 23 pieces in the other class in the same gaders were finally selected. Subjects listened to music for 40 min two times a day for two weeks with a cassette player in the classroom. The result yielded the followings: 1) Self-reported public speech anxiety decreased both in the experimental and control groups. However, there found more decrease in the music-listening group than in the non-listening music group. 2) The public speech behavior improved both in the experimental and control groups with on difference between the two groups. This suggests a possibility that SBES may not be a accurate measure to evaluate the speech anxiety. We conclude that two-week listening to music has the effect reduction on speech anxiety.

Recently, most presentations have been presented on the screen using the computer. This paper suggests that the computer can be controlled by the gesturing recognition, without the help of any person or tools. If we use only information in the form of images, we should have a high-resolution camera for capturing the images and a computer that can treat high-resolution images. However, this paper will present a solution whereby a low-resolution camera can be used at the stage. It uses the supersonic sensor to trace the presenter's location and a low-resolution camera for capturing the necessary limited and small area. The gesture is defined by the number of fingers and one's hand positions which are recognized by the Erosion / Dilation and Subtraction algorithm. The system this paper addresses has improved 13%, when comparing tests between the image-only data system and this paper's system. The gesture recognition tests have a 98% success rate.

Bridgestone사에서는 트럭ㆍ버스용 래디알 타이어 신형상이론인 TCOT를 발표했다. Bridgestone사는 이미 발표한 승용차용 래디알 타이어의 형상이론인 RCOT를 토대로 PCR을 상품화하고 있는데, 최근에 발표한 TCOT는 내구성을 중시한, TBR용으로 확립한 이론이다. Bridgestone사에서는 이 이론을 일본, 미국, 유럽 등 주요국가에 특허를 출원, RCOT와 같이 국제적으로 공식화할 전망이다. 다음에 TCOT이론을 소개한다.

지난 2월10일부터 5일간 체코의 필젠에서 열린 제5회 컴퓨터 그래픽스와 가시화에 관한 국제학회에서 필자는 3편의 논문을 발표했다. 세계 최고의 맥주 '필스너'의 본고장인 필젠에서 열린 이번 회의에는 20개국에서 발표자만 1백여명이 참석했는데 장사속 저질논문이 발표되어 질타를 받기도 했다.

2007년 1월 19일, 한국주택협회가 논현동 건설회관에서 이방주 회장을 비롯해 주택협회 이사진들이 참석한 가운데 긴급 이사회를 개최한 뒤 기자 회견을 가졌다. 이날 기자회견에서 발표된 내용은 최근 정부의 '1.11 부동산 대책'이 발표된 후, 건설 업체를 옥죄고 있는 분양 원가 공개와 분양가 상한제에 관한 건설 업계의 입장을 표명한 자리였다.

90년전 '상대성이론'을 발표해 온 세상의 예찬을 받아온 아인슈타인. 나치스의 배척운동으로 1922년 발표된 그의 노벨상 수상업적은 '상대성이론'이 아닌 '광전효과연구'였으며 1년 전의 수상결정을 뒤늦게 발표한 것이다. 그의 상대성이론은 과학사에 가장 위대한 업적의 하나로 길이 남게 되었지만 대학낙방, 사촌과의 재혼 등 사생활을 밝힌 그의 전기가 최근에 나와 성인같기만 하던 그의 모습은 허구였다는 것이 드러나고 있다.

문화체육관광부(장관 최광식)는 지난 7월 11일 파주 아시아출판문화정보센터에서 인쇄 단체, 업계 및 학계 등 300여 명이 참석한 가운데 인쇄문화산업의 국가 전략산업화를 비전으로 하는 '인쇄문화산업 진흥 5개년 계획(2012~2016)'을 발표했다. 아시아출판문화정보센터 대강당을 가득 메운 300여명의 인쇄인들은 문화부의 5개년 계획 발표를 경청하며, 향후 전개될 사업에 대한 높은 기대감을 드러냈다.

호주 골드코스트에서 열린 제11회 국제 복합재료학회는 세계 각국에서 천여명의 관련학자들이 참가하여 5백여편의 논문을 발표했다. 우리 한국에서는 대학, 기업, 연구소 등에서 30여명의 연구인들이 참가하여 20여편의 논문을 발표했는데 이 학술대회에 참가하여 논문을 발표한 포항공대 한경섭교수의 참관기를 싣는다.
