Clinical Study on the Dental Abnomalities of Number and Morphology in Cleft Alveolus Patients (치조열 환자에서 치아의 선천결손과 형태이상에 관한 연구)

  • 구순구개열은 선천성 악안면 기형중에서 발생률이 가장 높은 질환이며 특히 동양인에게 높은 빈도로 발생된다. 그리고 순구개열에서는 파열부 조직의 선천적 상실과 파열부 봉합 수술 후 형성된 반흔에 의한 상악골의 열성장과 상악궁의 협착, 코의 형태 이상, 등과 함께 치아의 수, 크기와 형태 및 맹출 이상도 높은 빈도로 동반된다. 선천성 치아 발육 이상이 구순열 또는 구개열 가진 환자에게서 종종 보고되고 있다. 이런 치아 이상은 과잉치, 결손치, 크기, 형태, 맹출시기, 법랑질 광화 등의 많은 특징을 포함한다. 이번 연구의 목적은 다음과 같다. 1. 구순열 또는 구개열을 가진 환자의 선천성 치아 결손 발병률을 결정하여 정상인과 비교하는 것이다. 2. 상하악에서 파열이 있는 부위와 없는 부위의 제2소구치 결손가능성을 비교 하는 것이다. 구강악안면외과에서 구순구개열로 진단한 환자 중 2005년 1월~2009년 8월까지 전북대학교 구강악안면외과에서 치조열부위 자가골이식수술을 받은 32명의 환자로 초진시의 교정 chart, 구강악안면외과 chart, x-ray(파노라마, 치근단사진, 교합사진(상악), 석고 모델, 구강내 외 임상사진을 사용하여 순구개열군 별로 매복치, 과잉치, 결손치, 왜소치의 유무와 위치를 조사하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 결손치는 비교적 높은 발생빈도(53.1%)를 보였으며, 치아별 발생빈도는 상악 측절치와 상악 제2소구치, 하악 제2소구치 순이었다. 구순구개열군이 구순치조열군에 비해 발생률이 높게 나타났다. 그리고 구순구개열군 내에서 양측성이 편측성에 비해 결손치의 발생률이 높게 나타났다. 2. 왜소치는 71.6%에서 발견되었으며, 치아별 발생빈도는 상악측절치에서 가장 많았다. 구순치조열군이 구순구개열군에 비해 발생률이 높게 나타났다. 3. 치조열을 가진 환자에 있어 상/하악간 제2소구치의 선천적 결손에 유의한 차이가 있었다. 4. 구순구개열이 인접한 상악측절치의 발생중인 미성숙 조직에 영향을 미치며 파열부위와 좀 더 떨어져 있는 상악 제2소구치에도 일정한 영향을 미침을 이번 연구를 통해 다시 확인할 수 있었다.

  • The synthetic procedures to synthesize polymethacryloylsulfadiazine were searched by DCC method and Acid Chloride mothod. Polymeric drug was synthesized by Acid Chloride method in high yield (72%) but DCC method in low yield (23%). The antimicrobial activities of polymeric drug were investigated in terms of minimum inhibitory concentrations by the common two-fold dilution technique. Polymeric drug revealed an excellent antimicrobial Bacillus subtillis ATCC 6633, Mycrobacterium phlei IFO 3158, Micrococus luteus ATCC 9341, Salmonella typhimurium KCTC 1925, Klebsiella pneumoniae KCTC 1560 and similar activity against Staphylococcus aureus IFO 12732, Escherichia coli BE 1186, Escherichia coli AB 0111, Pseudomonas aeruginosa IFO 13130. Polymeric drug have no antimicrobial activity against Candida albicans IFO 1594.

  • Ecotoxicological effects of synthetic detergents such as laundry detergent and $Shampoo^{(R)}$ on cocoon productivity, hatchability, number of hatched individuals per cocoon and growth of next generation of Eisenia fetida population were evaluated. Synthetic detergents mixed with earthworm feed increased the cocoon productivity, number of hatched individuals per cocoon and growth of next generation of Eisenia fetida population, but there was no effect on hatchability. From those results, it could be concluded that synthetic detergents that might be present in the sewage sludge would not cause ecotoxicological effect on Eisenia fetida population.

Bionomics of Tetranychus urticae Koch on Eggplants under Various Nitrogen Regimes in Controlled Environment (시설 재배 가지에서 질소 시비 수준에 따른 점박이응애의 생물적 특성)

  • Development of T. urticae was studied on the leaves of eggplant grown in hydroponics with nitrogen contents of 5 mM, 10 mM, 30 mM, and 60 mM. As the nitrogen level in hydroponics increased, it also increased in the plant whereas that of K, Ca, and Mg decreased. More nitrogen in hydroponics resulted in increased contents of water and crude protein, and decreased ash, carbohydrates, and fibers within the plant. Biomass was the heaviest as 989.5 g at 10 mM and the lightest at 60 mM. Leaf thickness and the content of chlorophyll increased as the content of nitrogen increased. Laboratory leaf disc tests obtained from plants grown at various nitrogen levels revealed that feeding and oviposition preferences of T. urticae were high at 30 mM and low at 5 mM. Ratio of damaged leaf by naturally occurring T. urticae on eggplants of 99 days post-transplant in the greenhouse was the highest as 98% at 60 mM. Degrees of damage on eggplants with and without T. urticae infestation turned up more as the differences in the levels of nitrogen in the hydroponics get bigger. No definite differences in the rate of T. urticae development was found between nitrogen treatment levels but, mortalities in immature stages dropped as the nitrogen levels went up. Adult longevity was the longest of 11.9 for female and 6.9 days for male at 60 mM. Oviposition period was also the longest as 11.7 days at 60 mM and shortened as the level of nitrogen decreased. The number of eggs oviposited was the most as 144.4 at 60 mM while it was the least as 41.0 at 5 mM. Sex ratio was 0.75 in favor of female at 10 mM. $R_o$ and T increased, no trends were detected in $r_m\;and\;{\lambda}$, while Dt decreased as the levels of nitrogen went up.

  • Development of T. urticae was studied on the leaves of eggplant grown in hydroponics with silica contents of 0 mM, 1.7 mM, and 5.1 mM. As the levels of sllica increased, those of N, P, K, Ca, and Mg decreased and those of Si increased. While contents of calory, crude protein, carbohydrates, and vitamin C decreased, those of ash, fiber, and sugar increased. Biomass and content of cholorophyll decreased as the level of silica increased while leaves became thicker. Laboratory leaf disc tests provided with various silica levels revealed that feeding preference of T. urticae was the highest at 0 mM and the lowest at 1.7 mM. The oviposition preference decreased as the levels of silica increased, on the lower leaf appeared to hinder the feeding and the oviposition of T. urticae. The development slowed down both in female and male. Adult life span of female shortend as the silica level increased and that of male was the longest as 5.7 days at 0mM and the shortest at 1.7 mM. Oviposition period also shortened as the silica content increased. The number of eggs laid was the most as 86.3 at 1.7 mM while average oviposition per day was the least as 77 at 0 mM. No differences in hatchability was detected whereas the ratio of sex was the highest as 0.71 in favor of female at 0mM. $R_o$ and T decreased as the levels of silica increased. Rm and $\lambda$ was the lowest at 5.1 mM while Dt was the longest as 1.8271 at 5.1 mM and the shortest as 1.6991 days at 1.7 mM. Silica content in eggplant turned to affect the development of T. urticae, however, it deterred T. urticae from feeding and oviposition and the rate of increase tended to decrease due to lesser nutrients in the eggplant leaf.

Study on the Propagation of Acanthopanax Plants II. Characteristics of Seed and Growth of Embryo in Stratifying Treatment (오갈피나무속(屬)(Acanthopanax) 식물의 번식(繁殖)에 관한 연구(硏究) II. 종자형질(種子形質)과 배(胚) 발육(發育)특성)

  • Seeds of Acanthopanx plants need about 2 years to germinate after sowing even if full matured fruits were harvested. I leave a room for doubt that this phenomenon could be brought by the immatured embryo in seed. If it is true, stratification method for the seed propagation of Acanthopanax plants would be used more effectively to promote the growth of embryo in relatively short time. Before stratification, seeds were devided into two parts. One of them was treated for 24hrs in the concentration of $GA_3$ 100 ppm. After stratification of non-treated and treated seeds, seeds for microtechnique were taken on interval of one month for three months, and fixed in Farmer's solution. The seed sizes of Acanthopanax plants were in biggest order A. sessiliflorus, A. seoulense, A. chiisanensis, A. koreanum and A. sieboldianum. The dehiscence phenomenon of seed coat didn't show in most of the seeds that stratified, but A. koreanum only dehisced in seeds treated in $GA_3$ 100ppm. The embryos of the stratified seeds that treated in $GA_3$ showed nomal growth, complete cotyledons and procambium in hypocotyl in any species, but the non-treated seeds could not expect the germination after sowing due to poor growing of the embryo in all species. In view of the results so far achieved, it has taken long times from sowing to germinate because the seed of Acanthopanax plants has immatured embryo.

  • The congenital missing of teeth is common, which takes place since the proliferation and differentiation are not allowed in that tooth bud fail to start development. The purpose of this study is to research incidence rate, number, and missing part of congenital missing teeth, and to study whether a person who has missing teeth has other abnormality of teeth or not. For this study, 1,520 subjects(aged 2.9$\sim$17) who had visited pediatric dentist department of Chonbuk national university dental hospital within 2 years were examined with an panoramic radiograph; exempting third molar missing state. The obtained results are as follows. 1. 8.88% among total subjects show missing teeth; male 9.05%, female 8.64% 2. The most frequently missing permanent teeth were the mandibular second premolars(22.3%). The most frequently missing primary teeth are mandibular lateral incisors(50%). 3. 43.3% patients have one permanent missing tooth, 34.3% have two, and 10.4% have more than six, respectively. In primary teeth, 86.7% patients have one missing tooth, and 13.3% have two missing teeth. 4. 18 patients(13.3%) have missing teeth as well as hyperdontia, while some patients have microdont, ectopic eruption, and fusion teeth.

Effect of Calving Season on Growth Performance, Feed Intake and Disease Occurrence of Hanwoo Calves (한우 송아지의 분만계절이 성장, 사료섭취량 및 질병 발생에 미치는 영향)

  • Sixty-seven Hanwoo calves were allocated into two groups, 27 spring calves (SC) and 40 fall calves (FC) to investigate the effects of calving season on water and nutrient intakes, growth performance and disease occurrence for the nursing and the post-weaning period. Mean DMI of 3 to 4 mo old FC was lower than that of SC due to low temperature in winter for FC. Water intake was higher for FC (birth to 1 mo old) but lower for SC (2 to 4 mo old) than the others. Mean BW did not differ between SC and FC, but average daily gain for over 2 mo old SC were significantly higher than FC. Diarrhea was mainly observed when the calves were before 60 d old; in particular, it occurred more frequently for less than 30 d old FC compared with SC. The present results indicate that calving season may affect water intake, feed intake and growth performance of Hanwoo calves.

Open Heart Surgery of Ventricular Septal Defect in Infancy (영아기 심실중격결손의 개심술)

  • In selected cases, early corrective surgery is indicated in the management of infants having large ventricular septal defects. The risk of any surgical procedure in infancy is acknowledged to be great and should be avoided whenever possible. However this greater surgical risk is justified when the patient presents with intractable congestive heart failure, severe pulmonary hypertension, marked growth retardation, and recurrent prolonged lower respiratory infections. We analyzed 31 patients with ventricular septal defect in infancy who underwent surgical correction from January 1991 through December 1994. Age ranged from 6 months to 12 months with mean age of 9.2 months. Of the thirty-one patients, 23 patients were male and 8 patients were female. Mean body weight was 7. 4kg. The most common type of ventricular septal defect was perimembraneo s (64.5%). Associated cardiac anomalies were found in 17 patients (55.8%). Mitral regurgitation was the most commonly associated cardiac anomaly (16.1 %) and followed by patent ductus arteriosus (12.9%). When cardiac catheterization data were analysed, the most common range of Qp/qs, RpiRs, Pp/ps were 2.1∼ 3.0, 1-0.25, above 0.70 respectively. Among the indications of surgical correction, there were pulmonary hypertension in 20 patients, congestive heart failure in 3 patients, intractable respiratory infection in 10 patients and growth retardation in 14 patients. The most common surgical approach and method for closure of ventricular septal defect .were right atriotomy (58%) and Dacron patch closure (94%). Postoperative complications occurred in 10 cases (32%) and overall mortality was 12.9% (4 cases). All operative deaths in this series occurred in infants under the age of 8 months and weight of 8 kilograms.

  • Thirteen strains or crosses of Lentinus edodes obtained from home and abroad were compared for their mycelial characteristics on artificial media. Eleven of them were selected and inoculated on logs in order to study for their productivity, and the morphological characteristics of the mushrooms were investigated. 1) Seven strains, i. e., 11001, 12001, 13005, 13012, 13015, 12004 and 20101 were grown well on the sawdust medium. 2) The best mycelial growth and establish­ment of infection on logs were obtained from strains 20101 and 11001. 3) The highest yield of the mushrooms on logs during the six year periods were obtained from strains 11001, 12001 and 20101. 4) The highest yield of the mushrooms usually was obtained on the fourth year after inoculation. 5) The fruit body productivity in terms of dry weight recovery was the highest in strains 13005 and 20101. 6) The most productive period of the mushrooms during the years depended on strains. Most prevalent types of the strains were summer and autumn growing types, and more mushrooms were produced during these periods. 7) Morphological characteristics of the mushroom were more or less dependent on environmental conditions. 8) Thicker fruit bodies and relatively uniform shapes of the mushroom were produced by strain 20101.
