In this study, the dynamic environment of satellite consists of excessive vibration at low
frequency and irregular acceleration transferred by launch vehicle structure.
Excessive vibration at low frequency is generally approximated by a sinusoidal wave from
100Hz to 200Hz and primarily used to preliminary design The random vibration is created by
structural vibration due to the combustion of launch vehicle, separation stage and external
aerodynamic noise. these are transferred to the adapter structure between satellite and launch
vehicle through the structure of launch vehicle. random vibration is being specified for acceptance
tests, screening tests, and qualification tests, because it has been shown that random vibration
more closely represents the true environments in which the electronic equipment must operate.

In this paper, we report a non-explosive separation device for a small satellite which utilize a shape memory alloy actuator. Based on previous research, we try to increase the reliability of the proposed device by changing some components. It enables the proposed device to activate under high preload. Also, we confirm it generates low shock which is main advantage of non-explosive separation device. Finally, vibration test which mimics launching environment and thermal vacuum test which mimics space environment are carried out respectively. After each environment test, we confirm the proposed device is successfully activated. Conclusively, we develop a non-explosive separation device which can activate with low shock under high preload after shock and environment tests(vibration and thermal vacuum tests).
Currently, investigations in microgravity environments are carried out in a variety of applications, including drop towers, where experiments can be performed for short periods of time, and space stations, where time is not limited. However, producing a microgravity environment for long-term scientific research requires huge development expenditures and efforts. As a result, if the microgravity experiment is carried out on a cubesat, the variety of scientific studies will likely increase even more due to its low cost. The Korea Microgravity Science Laboratory (KMSL) cubesat, which has these features, is a satellite that has carried out microgravity science missions. On March 22, 2021, the KMSL satellite was launched by a Soyuz2.1a from Baikonur in Kazakhstan and operated normally for nearly two months. This article presents results and lessons gained for successfully completing science missions in microgravity based on the KMSL satellite's operational experience.

This paper is concerned with numerical simulation of a gun-launched projectile considering a rifled gun-tube. Gun-launched conditions induce dynamic behaviors, such as high pressure and high speed rotation. A projectile and its internal electronic components may be damaged in such harsh environments. Hence, it is necessary to perform numerical simulation of a gun-launched projectile to predict its dynamic behaviors and stability. In this work, preceding research studies on gun-launched projectiles are investigated, and the simulation method is developed to rotate the projectile through between its rotating band and a rifled-gun tube. The proposed method is verified by comparison with experimental results, and the dynamic behaviors and stability of the projectile are evaluated under gun-launched conditions.

The experimental research on a high-altitude environment simulation of space launch vehicle is important for securing independent technologies with launching space vehicles and completing missions. This study selected an altitude of 65 km for the experiment environment where it exceeded Mach number of 6 after the launch of Korean Space Launch Vehicle(KSLV-II). Shock tunnel was used to replicate the flight condition. After flow establishment, in order to confirm aerodynamic characteristics and normal and oblique shockwaves, the flow verification was carried out by measuring stagnation pressure and heat flux of a forebody model, and shockwave stand-off distance of a hemispherical model. In addition, a shock-free technique to recover free-stream condition has been developed and verified. From the results of the three verification tests, it was confirmed that the flow was replicated with the error of about ${\pm}3%$. The error between the slope angle of inclined shockwave of the scaled down transition section model using the shock-free shape and the slope angle of the horizontal plate model, and between the theoretical and the experimental value of the static pressure of the model were confirmed to be 2% and 1%, respectively. As a result, the efficiency of the shockwave cancellation technique has been verified.

This paper presents the development of a fracture-type protector for carrying a reconnaissance robot to a remote target area. Instead of a conventional unlocking mechanism, a separation method based on the fracture of assembled parts was implemented in the proposed lightweight protector in order to improve the feasibility for a real battlefield. Simulations using the finite element model of the protector and the robot were performed to verify the fracture under the given loading conditions, and shock experiments using a drop table were performed to calculate shock transmittance through the protector to the robot. Several field tests for a 100-m flight proved that the proposed scenario (launching, flying, landing, and separation) was achieved successfully.

The Intense acoustic wave generated by the jet flame at the lift-off causes the vehicle to vibrate in the form of acoustic loads. The DSM-II(Distributing Source Method-II), which is a representative empirical acoustic loads prediction method, is a method of distributing a noise source along a jet flame axis and has advantages in calculation cost and accuracy. However, due to the limitation of the distributing method, there is a limit to accurately reflect the various launch pad configurations. In this study, acoustic loads prediction method which can freely distribute noise sources is studied. by introducing NURBS(Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline) modeling into empirical prediction method. For the verification of the newly introduced analytical technique of the NURBS, the acoustic loads prediction for the Epsilon rocket's low-noise launch pad shape was performed and the results of the analysis were compared with the existing prediction methods and experimental results.

In this work, the high-altitude environment simulation study was carried out at an altitude of 65 km exceeding Mach number of 6 after the launch of Korean Space Launch Vehicle using a shock tunnel. To minimize the flow disturbance due to the strut support of test model as much as possible, a few different types of strut configurations were considered. Using the configuration with minimum disturbance, the high-altitude environment simulation experiment including a propulsion system with a single-plume, was conducted. From the thruster test through flow visualization, not only a shockwave pattern, but a general flow-field pattern from the mutual interaction between the exhaust plume and the free-stream undisturbed flow, was experimentally observed. The comparison with the computation fluid dynamic(CFD) results, showed a good agreement in the forebody whereas in the afterbody and the nozzle the disagreement was about ${\pm}7%$ due to unwanted shockwave formation emanated from the nozzle-exit.
The results of space radiation experiments carried out on board the first two Korean technology demonstration microsatellites are presented in this paper. The first satellite, KITSAT-1, launched in August 1992, carries a radiation monitoring payload called cosmic ray experiment(CRE) for characterizing the low-earth orbit(LEO) radiation environment. The CRE consists of two sub-systems: the cosmic particle experiment (CPE) and the total dose experiment(TDE). In addition, single event upset(SEU)rates of the program memory and the RAM disk are also monitored. The second satellite, KITSAT-2, launched in September 1993, carries a newly developed 32-bit on-board computer(OBC), KASCOM(KAIST satellite computer in addition to OBC186. SEUs ocurred in the KASCOM, as well as in the program memory and RAM disk memory, have been monitored since the beginning of the satellite operation. These two satellites, which are very similar in structures but different in orbits, provide a unique opportunity to study the effects of the radiation environment characterized by the orbit.
