Development of Nitrogen Supply System for Launch Complex of KSLV-I (KSLV-I 발사대 질소공급시스템 개발)

  • For the launch preparation of KSLV-I, gaseous nitrogen with various level of pressure and cryogenic liquid nitrogen are required. Nitrogen Supply System on launch complex has been developed to perform the production of high pressure gaseous nitrogen, the production of gaseous nitrogen with temperature of $273{\pm}2K$ for protection purge of launch vehicle after loading of propellant and the supply of cryogenic liquid nitrogen for cooling of fuel (kerosene) and oxidizer (liquid oxygen). The operational instability of vaporizer mainly caused by its heat transfer characteristics which sensitively depends on the atmospheric conditions was removed by introducing parallel installation of two vaporizer and their switching operation. The developed Nitrogen Supply System carried out its function successfully in preparation of KSLV-I flight tests.

  • The function of a vehicle holding device (VHD) is to securely hold a launch vehicle on the launch pad and release the launch vehicle at maximum thrust after engine ignition to allow lift-off of the launch vehicle. During the release of the launch vehicle, to prevent the Ka doing a doing a doing mode, which is the vertical oscillation of the entire liquid propellant, the release of the launch vehicle should be gradual. In this study, for the gradual release of a launch vehicle, a hydraulic system comprising an accumulator and pyro valve to operate a hydraulic cylinder and control the speed of the cylinder with an orifice is introduced. Through a test, the influence of design variables on the cylinder speed is analyzed. Based on this, the design values of the hydraulic cylinder are determined. Through this study, the engineering basis for developing a VHD releasing a launch vehicle at maximum thrust is provided.

  • 실전에 배치될 미국의 차세대 지상발사 탄도미사일 방어시스템은 Lockheed Martin사가 주계약 업체로 개발 중인 미 육군의 THAAD(Theater High Altitude Area Defense) 시스템이 될 것으로 예상된다. 프로젝트 정의 및 위험감소 단계는 1995년에 시작되었으며, 체계개발 단계는 2003년 시작되고 이어서 2004년에는 발사시험이 실시될 예정이다. 그리고 연간 40기의 미사일을 생산하는 초도생산단계는 2006년경에, 최종적인 양산은 2008년부터 시작되어 연간 320기의 미사일을 생산할 계획이다. 1999년 8월에 실시된 발사시험에서 고도 100km 이상의 표적을 대기권 밖에서 요격하는 데 성공한 바있다.

  • The function of the Reaction Control System include roll, pitch and yaw control of the launch vehicles and fine control maneuvers and precision upper stage orientation before separation of one or more payload. This paper describes the overview of commercial launchers, current technology trend for RCS of launch vehicles, and development status of medium class thruster for RCS.

  • Design and performance evaluation of $H_2O_2$ monopropellant thrusters to be used at attitude control of space launch vehicles were presented in this paper. Flight model thrusters were designed after two reactors for 100, 250 Newton were conformed at engineering model. Each thruster was evaluated by measurement of characteristic velocity, thrust, specific impulse, and pulse response times.

  • The responsibility of the vehicle holding device (VHD) is to hold the launch vehicle while it is stayed on launch pad and release the holding mechanism to allow a lift-off of launch vehicle at a moment of lift-off. During a release of the holding mechanism, in order to prevent the Ka doing a doing a doing mode which is vertical oscillation of entire liquid propellant and very severe for vehicle structure, gradual release of holding force is required. Also, a release operation of all 4 VHD should be synchronized very precisely. In this study, to comply the "gradual release and synchronized operation requirement", concept of VHD hydraulic system using an accumulator, pyro valve and orifice to control speed of hydraulic cylinder is proposed instead of using complicated hydraulic components. Then through multi-body dynamic analysis and computational hydraulic analysis, a size of orifice to meet a target speed of hydraulic cylinder is calculated. Through this study, simple and reliable VHD hydraulic system complying requirements is designed.

  • This paper presents development status of sounding rockets containing scientific payload and telemetry at home and abroad. The case of outside, united state is launching sounding rockets in 20-30 flight per year by the NASA program which offer to carry payload weights of 38-680 kg and altitude of 88-1,500 km. Europe is launching in 4-5 flight per year by the ESA program. Japanese sounding rockets are being applied an Antarctic exploration and flight verification in 1-2 flight per year. The case of korean sounding rockets was successful with the launch of three times(KSR-I,II,III), but our development techniques for space launch vehicle lag behind other industries. Therefore, Launch vehicle development should enable with the support and acquirement of advanced technology.

A Study on the Shock Resistance against Underwater Explosion of Ship-born Vertical Launch Type Air-vehicle by Using the Modeling and Simulation (모델링 및 시뮬레이션 기반의 함정용 수직발사형 발사체의 수중폭발 충격에 대한 내충격성 확보 방안 연구)

  • This study examines the response when the shock by underwater explosion is transmitted to a vertical launch air-vehicle mounted on a ship using modeling and simulation, and is about a plan to increase method shock resistance to protect the air vehicle. In order to obtain an accurate mathematical model, a dynamic characteristic test was performed on similar equipment, and through this, the mathematical model could be supplemented. And, using the supplemented mathematical model, the air vehicle simulated the shock response by the underwater explosion specified in the BV043 standard. As a result of the first simulation, it was confirmed that air vehicle could not withstand shock, and air vehicle protection method using a ring spring type shock absorber was studied. In addition to the basic shape of abosber, it was confirmed that the ring spring absober can be used to increase the impact resistance of a shipborn vertical launch vehicle by performing simulations for each case by changing deseign varables.

  • A development history of the thrusters used for space-vehicle orbit maneuver/attitude control is reviewed with their performance characteristics. Especially, a scrutiny is made for the current and practical application of TVC/Gimbal/Thrusters to the roll/pitch/yaw-axis control of each stage of launch vehicles. It is well perceived that a precise 3-axis attitude control system (ACS) must be equipped on the final stage of space launch vehicles (SLV) for an attainment of orbit-insertion accuracy. Under the superior reliability as well as moderate performance features, the monopropellant hydrazine thrusters occupy most of the SLV's 3-axis ACS currently operated. Domestic development status of the medium-thrust-level thruster is shortly introduced, finally.
