  • The purpose of thesis is to analyze the radiation characteristics of an offset gregorian antenna in order to design the satellite-loaded antenna. In order to compute the radiation pattern of the sub-reflector, the reflected wave is obtained by GO(Geometric Optics) at an arbitrary shaped sub-reflector. Then the total radiation EM wave is obtained by summing the diffracted fields obtained by UTD(Uniform Geometrical Theory of Diffraction) and the GO fields. In order to calculate the far field radiation pattern of the main reflector, the radiation integral equation is derived from the induced current density on reflector surface using PO(Physical Optics). The kernel is expanded in terms of Jacobi-Bessel series for increasing the computational efficiency, then the modified radiation integral is represented as the double integral equation independent of observation points. When the incident fields are assumed to be x-or y-polarized field, the characteristics of radiation patterns in the gregorian antenna is analyzed in case of the main reflector having the focal length of 62.4$\lambda$, diameter of 100$\lambda$, and offset height of 75$\lambda$, and the sub-reflector having the eccentricity of 0.501, the inter focal length og 32.8$\lambda$, the horn axis angle of $9^{\circ}$ and the half aperture angle of $15.89^{\circ}$. The cross-polarized level and side lobe level in the offset geogorian reflector are reduced by 30dB and 10dB, respectively, in comparison with those of the offset parabolic antenna.

  • We introduce the design technique and test results of a millimeter-wave compact antenna test range. Physical optics is employed for the analysis of the plane wave collimated by an electrical large parabolic reflector of the compact range in the test zone. The performance of the manufactured compact range is verified with the field probing test on the quiet zone and the measurement of high gain antenna. A millimeter-wave compact range designed in the frequency range of 75~110 GHz with a diameter of the test zone of 50 cm shows the magnitude variation of less than 0.75 dB.

  • This paper presents the multibeam service coverage of GEO(Geostationary Orbit) satellite and the practical antenna scheme scenarios to provide the universal communication services on the Korean peninsula. The proposed antenna systems consist of the simplest scheme and feed network so that they can be mounted on satellites. The feed networks are effectively organized according to the frequency and polarization plan. Despite simple structure, all scenarios meet the electrical performance by the optimization of feed allocation and feed excitation.

  • In this paper, we have designed the elliptical dual offset gregorian antenna which can use Ka band earth station antennas in the fixed-satellite service. The structure of antenna is increasing the antenna gain by decreasing blockage areas and decreasing wind effects by shortening height of the antenna. The corrugate horn antenna for this antenna has symmetric radiation patterns and low side lobe levels that can meet ITU-R envelope. The distribution of electric field on a aperture of main reflector is calculated by an ray-tracing method that use the radiation pattern of the feed horn. The final geometric of antena is decided by choosing the distribution that comply with antenna requirement. The FEKO analysed electrical performance of this antenna. The fabricated antenna has 45.0dBi(@30.0GHz)/41.7dBi(@20.2GHz), high efficiency and low side lobe level that meet ITU-R S. 580-6 envelope.

  • The electrical design of the Ka-band antenna for the domestic Communications and Broadcasting Satellite (CBS) is described. The antenna has the offset Gregorian structure and is installed on the Earth-facing panel of the satellite. The electrical performance specifications for the antenna were determined from the required EIRP and G/T through the payload level performance analysis. This paper utilized the reflector shaping technology for the trade-off among the major performance parameters, resulting in compliance of all the parameters. The designed antenna shows 37.95 dBi EOC (End of Coverage) gain and 28.7 dB sidelobe isolation for transmit band, and 37.49 dBi EOC gain and 31.1 dB sidelobe isolation for receive band, The electrical performances of the antenna have been verified via the electrical testing of a manufactured EQM (Engineering Qualification Model) antenna.

  • In this paper, a cylindrical hybrid antenna which is spatially fed by an off-set linear feed array is described to form complex beam patterns. The linear feed array consists of twelve micro-strip patch elements and forms a flat-topped beam pattern with a beam-width of $90^{\circ}$ in the horizontal plane. The vertical curve on the cylindrical reflector with the linear feed array is shaped in order to form a cosecant beam pattern within the range of $-5^{\circ}$ to $-25^{\circ}$ in the vertical plane. To form complex beam patterns, the hybrid antenna with cylindrical reflector aperture of $140{\times}50\;cm$ was designed and fabricated to be operated within the IMT 2000 service band, and also electrical performances of the antenna were measured and analyzed.

  • In this paper, a retrodirective anatenna array system is proposed and the possibility of actively cancelling electromagnetic waves based on this system is investigated. When a rectrodirective array system receives an electromagnetic wave, it can send waves in the direction of the incoming signal without prior knowledge of the direction. In applications to cancellation of radar signals, the system can generate and send signals to the radar so that it cancels the radar signals that are reflected back to the radar. In such a system, isolation between the input and output ports is a key factor that determines the effectiveness of cancellation. In this work, a dual-conversion mixer system is proposed to maximize the isolation. Since this minimizes the difference between the direction of reflection of radar signals and the transmission of cancellation signals, the effectiveness of cancellation is maximized. Experimental results for a metallic plate and metallic cylinder shows as much as 29-dB reduction in reflection for a $2{\times}2$ retrodirective array based on proposed dual-conversion mixer system, which verifies the proposed method of active cancellation.

  • This paper presents a microstrip antenna which recovers its resonant frequency and impedance shifted automatically by the approach of other objects such as hands. This can be used for telemetry sensor applications in the ultrahigh frequency(UHF) industrial, scientific, and medical(ISM) band. It is the key element that an frequency-reconfigurable antenna could be electrically controlled. This antenna is miniaturized by loading the folded plates at both radiating edges, and varactor diodes are installed between the radiating edges and the ground plane to control the resonant frequency by adjusting the DC bias asymmetrically. Using this voltage-controlled antenna and the micro controller peripheral circuits of reading the returned level, the antenna is designed and fabricated which recovers its resonant frequency and impedance automatically. Designed frequency auto recovering antenna is conformed to be recovered within a few seconds when the resonant frequency and impedance are shifted by the approach of other objects such as hand, metal plate, dielectric and so on.

  • In this paper, the corrugated horn antenna used in the reflector feed horn of satellite is analyzed using the modal expansion method. The modal expansion method is represented by the summations of modals at each point so the exact prediction of field and phase patterns can be obtained. The least number of iterations to compute field patterns is proposed. By using this number. calculation of accurate near and far field patterns without comsuming a lot of computational effort is available. Three kinds of corrugated horn antenna is designed to verify the method and experimented. The VSWR of designed frequency is from 1.04 to 1.1. The input impedance is nearly matched to $50\Omega$.
