In 1970's, the analysis of shallow substructure was the interests of geological engineering and environmental problems. And seismic refraction method was applied to detect those structures. From 1980's, digital electric industry is rapidly developed and high resolution prospecting equipment is supplied. And seismic reflection method is applied to achieve various data gathering and data analysis. In this study, geophysical prospecting method is applied to calculate the basic data of limestone yield production. Seismic shallow reflection method is used to detect the depth of bedrock and electrical resistivity method is used to detect of limestone layer boundary.
Seabed multiple reflections (seabed multiples) are the main cause of misinterpretations of primary reflections in both shot gathers and stack sections. Accordingly, seabed multiples need to be suppressed throughout data processing. Conventional model-driven methods, such as prediction-error deconvolution, Radon filtering, and data-driven methods, such as the surface-related multiple elimination technique, have been used to attenuate multiple reflections. However, the vast majority of processing workflows require time-consuming steps when testing and selecting the processing parameters in addition to computational power and skilled data-processing techniques. To attenuate seabed multiples in seismic reflection data, input gathers with seabed multiples and label gathers without seabed multiples were generated via numerical modeling using the Marmousi2 velocity structure. The training data consisted of normal-moveout-corrected common midpoint gathers fed into a U-Net neural network. The well-trained model was found to effectively attenuate the seabed multiples according to the image similarity between the prediction result and the target data, and demonstrated good applicability to field data.

For economy and convenience, seismic refraction survey is widely used in surveying for large civil engineering work. The purpose of this study is to obtain the numerical responses of various models using Kirchhoff migration, and to analyze its application to the real data processing. Synthetic traveltime curve was calculated by vidale's algorithm, and various models such as 2 or 3 layer model and irregular topography model are tested to simulate the response of real structure. In order to compare the effect of initial velocity model, true velocity models, inversion results by tomography, smooth velocity models are used as an initial guess. The responses of model data show that the algorithm of this study is more sensitive to initial velocity model than the reflection survey, so choosing a suitable initial velocity model will be the most important thing in real data processing.
Multi-channel seismic survey, which has been mainly employed in oil prospecting, is carried out as a high resolution shallow marine seismic exploration. Fault drop as small as 1 m can be resolved by employing high-resolution seismic survey. Similar to the effect of shallow inhomogenities in the land seismic data, due to occurrence of swell quite often higher than 1 m, shallow marine seismic data tend to be severely degraded. Suppression of such a swell effect is critical in processing of steps of marine seismic shallow high-resolution data. Compared to the moving average depth method, a newly developed method using cross-correlation technique is found out to be very effective in increasing the resolution of the shallow reflection events by accuratly elucidating the depth of sea bottom.
Forward modeling by construction of synthetic data is usually practiced in a horizontal surface and a few subsurface structures. However, in-situ surveys often take place in such topographic changes that the corrupted field data always make it difficult to interpret the right signals. To examine the propagation characteristic of elastic waves on the irregular surface, a general mesh generation code for finite element method was modified to consider the topography. By implementing this algorithm, the time domain modeling was practiced in some models with surface topography such as mound, channel, etc. The synthetic data obtained by receivers placed on surface also agreed with the analytic solution. The snapshots showing the total wave-field revealed the propagation characteristic of the elastic waves through complex subsurface structures and helped to identify the signals on the time traces. The transmission of Rayleigh waves along the surface, compressive waves, and sheer waves was observed. Moreover, it turned out that the Rayleigh waves behave like a new source at the edge.
Impact resonance testing was carried out on small and large concrete blocks containing several types of artificial flaws respectively. Quantitative analysis of the observed peak frequencies in the impact resonance tests identifies the possible normal modes of concrete blocks containing flaws. and enables to determine the depth and size of the flaws in concrete blocks. In this study, concrete can be treated as a homogeneous and isotropic material. The flaw size and location at each section of artificial flaw series in small and large concrete blocks, determined through two-dimensional scanning of impact point and real-time fast Fourier transform, are in good agreement with real size location, respectively. Consequently, quantitative analysis method of vibration modes in the impact resonance tests, which can be applied for homogeneous and isotropic material, can be useful for the detection of flaws in any case of small and large concrete blocks in this study.
Seismic reflection surveying is one of the most widely used and effective techniques for coal seam structure delineation and risk mitigation for underground longwall mining. However, the ability of the method can be compromised by the presence of volcanic cover. This problem arises within parts of the Bowen and Sydney Basins of Australia and seismic surveying can be unsuccessful. As a consequence, such areas are less attractive for coal mining. Techniques to improve the success of seismic surveying over basalt flows are needed. In this paper, we use elastic wave-equation-based forward modelling techniques to investigate the effects and characteristics of seismic wave propagation under different settings involving changes in basalt properties, its thickness, lateral extent, relative position to the shot position and various forms of inhomogeneity. The modelling results suggests that: 1) basalts with high impedance contrasts and multiple flows generate strong multiples and weak reflectors; 2) thin basalts have less effect than thick basalts; 3) partial basalt cover has less effect than full basalt cover; 4) low frequency seismic waves (especially at large offsets) have better penetration through the basalt than high frequency waves; and 5) the deeper the coal seams are below basalts of limited extent, the less influence the basalts will have on the wave propagation. In addition to providing insights into the issues that arise when seismic surveying under basalts, these observations suggest that careful management of seismic noise and the acquisition of long-offset seismic data with low-frequency geophones have the potential to improve the seismic results.
We introduce OBS and sonobuoy systems which are the typical wide-angle reflection/refraction seismic recorders made by KORDI for the investigation of crustal structure and the sediment/basement structure in the coastal area. These recording devices are examined for their usage through the test survey. The normal operation of these devices were proved and good recordings were obatined. The head waves are recognized in the sonobuoy records, which shows the possibility of velocity structure survey by the refraction and/or tomography method.
We develop the weighted-averaging finite-element method which uses four kinds of element sets. By constructing global stiffness and mass matrices for four kinds of element sets and then averaging them with weighting coefficients, we obtain a new global stiffness and mass matrix. With the optimal weighting coefficients minimizing grid dispersion and grid anisotropy, we can reduce the number of grid points required per wavelength to 4 for a $1\%$ upper limit of error. We confirm the accuracy of our weighted-averaging finite-element method through accuracy analyses for a homogeneous and a horizontal-layer model. By synthetic data example, we reconfirm that our method is more efficient for simulating a geological model than previous finite-element methods.

Migration image can be distorted due to reflected waves in the source and receiver wavefields when discontinuities of input velocity model exist in seismic imaging. To remove reflected waves coming from layer interfaces, it is a common practice to smooth the velocity model for migration. If the velocity model is smoothed, however, the subsurface image can be distorted because the velocity changes around interfaces. In this paper, we attempt to minimize the distortion by reducing reflection energy in the source and receiver wavefields through acoustic impedance homogenization. To make acoustic impedance constant, we define fake density model and use it for migration. When the acoustic impedance is constant over all layers, the reflection coefficient at normal incidence becomes zero and the minimized reflection energy results in the improvement of migration result. To verify our algorithm, we implement the reverse-time migration using cell-based finite-difference method. Through numerical examples, we can note that the migration image is improved at the layer interfaces with high velocity contrast, and it shows the marked improvement particularly in the shallow part.
