  • This study was carried out to analyze the properties of the gel propellant and spray characteristics according to the addition of fine particles. The multi-hole diameter was 0.4 mm to induce a high shear rate, and a kerosene gel propellant was prepared using 5 wt% of the Thixatrol ST and SUS304 of 100 nm. The experiment was conducted by fixing the supply pressure in the axial direction to 0.7 MPa and adjusting the supply pressure in the radial direction from 0.7 MPa to 2.1 MPa. Due to the addition of fine particles, pressure vibration during spraying, a small TMR(Total Momentum Ratio) of up to 0.19, and a phenomenon that the spraying angle rapidly increased to more than 70 degrees occurred.

  • When micro holes are machined by EDM, machining characteristics of machined holes are changed according to the machining conditions. Typical machining conditions are the kind of dielectric fluids, capacitance and ultrasonic vibrations. They influence electrode wear, machining time, radial clearance and taper angle. In this paper, machined holes whose depths are 300, 500, $1000\;{\mu}m$ are observed for each machining conditions. Using deionized water as a dielectric fluid makes electrode wear small, machining time short, radial clearance large and taper angle small. High capacitance makes electrode wear high. Ultrasonic vibrations make electrode wear large, machining time short, radial clearance small and taper angle small. From the results of experiments, the optimal machining conditions were obtained to machine highly qualified micro holes.

  • A linear acoustic analysis is conducted to examine bituning of acoustic resonators for acoustic damping in a combustion chamber of liquid rocket engine. Bituned resonators are tuned to the two principal modes, the first tangential(1T) and the first radial(1R) modes. First, the acoustic-damping effect of monotuned resonators is investigated. The damping capacity is quantified by damping factor as a function of the number of the resonators monotuned to 1T or 1R mode. Next, the damping characteristics of the bituned resonators are investigated. From the numerical data, the number of resonators, to be tuned to 1T and 1R modes, respectively, can be selected properly.

  • A rubber bushing connects the components of the vehicle each other and reduce the vibration transmitted to the chassis frame. A rubber bushing has the nonlinear characteristics for both the amplitude and the frequency and represents the hysteretic responses under the periodic excitation. In this paper, one-axis durability test is performed to describe the mechanical behavior of typical vehicle elastomeric components. The results of the tests are used to develop m empirical bushing model with an artificial neural network. The back propagation algerian is used to obtain the weighting factor of the neural network. A numerical example is carried out to verify the developed bushing model and the vehicle simulation is performed to show the fidelity of proposed model.

  • This paper described on the availability fo the underwater telemetering by the ulterasonic multi-beam system made as a trial to expand detectable range of the fish school. The ultrasonic multi-beam system consisted of four transducers which reconstructed with the existing net recorder. The experiment for the telemetering carried out in the set net fishing ground. The results obtained are summerized as follows: 1. The detectable distance of a target by the linear arrangement of four transducers increased according to the sea depth and the interval between transducers. 2. When the fish school in the entrance of set net was measured by linear arrangement of transducers it was entered in depth of 2.5~3.5m at near position of leader, and in depth of 3.5~4.5m at near position of door net. 3. The deviations of error between the actual position and the position by transducer in case of the target depth 1m, 1.5m, 2m were 5.9~27.1cm, 3.2~28.9cm, 3.5~25.8cm respectively, and 68.3% probability radius of them were 14.6cm, 17.7cm, 17.0cm respectively. 4. When the fish school in the fish court of set net was measured by plane arrangement of transducer it was entered toward the opposite direction of tide current. 5. The available distance of telemetering by the multi-beam transducer was 1.8km and the telemetering was possible to control everywhere in case of sea depth more than three meters.

  • If a rotor possesses a high gyroscopic coupling or the running speed is high, the dynamical changes in the rotor become prominent. When active magnetic bearings are used to support such rotors, it is necessary for the bearing controller to take these dynamical changes into consideration. Independent-axis controllers, which are the most commonly used, modulate the bearing force solely based on the sensor output of the same axis. However, this type of controller has difficulties in overcoming the dynamical changes. On the other hand, mixed-axis controllers transform the sensor output into components corresponding to the vibrational modes. A separate controller can then be designed for each vibrational mode. In this way, the controller can be designed based on the dynamics of the rotor. In this paper, we describe a design process for a mixed-axis controller that uses a detailed mathematical model of the system. The performance of the controller is evaluated based on the ISO sensitivity requirements and unbalance response, while considering the change in the system dynamics due to the running speed.

  • In this paper, sound transmission of Micro-Perforated Plates (MPPs) installed in an impedance tube with a circular cross-section is described using an analytic method. Vibration of the plates is expressed in terms of an infinite series of modal functions, where modal function in the radial direction is given by the Bessel function. Under the plane wave assumption, a low frequency approximation is derived, and a formula for the sound transmission coefficient of multi-layered MPPs is presented using the transfer matrix method. The Sound Transmission Losses (STLs) of single and double MPPs are computed using the proposed method and compared with those done by the Finite Element Method (FEM), which shows an excellent agreement. As the perforation increases, the STL is degraded, since the STL becomes dominated by the perforation ratio rather than by vibration of the plate. The STL shows dips at natural frequencies as well as at the mass-spring-mass resonance frequency. The proposed model for the STL prediction in this study can be applied to an arbitrary number of MPPs, where each MPP may or may not have a perforation.

  • The effects of radiation damping is used to compensate the truncated boundary which is relatively close to the structure-fluid interface in the fluid element surrounding the submerged structures. An efficient ring element is presented to model the shell and fluid element which fully utilizes the characteristics of the axisymmetry. The computational model uses the technique which separate the meridional shape and circumferential wave mode and gets similar result with the exact solution in the eigenvalues and the earthquake analysis. The fluid-structure interaction techniques is developed in the finite element analysis of two dimensional problems using the relations between pressure, nodal unknown acceleration and added mass assuming the fluid to be invicid, incompressible and irrotational. The effectiveness and efficiency of the technique is demonstrated by analyzing the free vibration and seismic analysis using the added mass matrix considering the structural deformation effect.

  • The switching system in a maglev train is an indispensable element for distributing train routes, and it should be designed to ensure safe operation. Unlike conventional wheels on rails, the switching track in EMS-type maglev is supported by a group of 3 to 4 steel girders. When the vehicle changes its route, the segmented track allows the girders to change from a straight position to a curved one with a small radius of curvature. Hence, the structural characteristics of the segmented switching system may affect the levitation stability of the maglev vehicle. This study experimentally evaluates the dynamic interaction between maglev vehicles and a segmented switching system. The results may be helpful for improving the switching system. The measured levitation and lateral air gaps were evaluated at a vehicle speed of 25 km/h, and the ride quality of the Maglev vehicle was determined to be "comfortable" according to the UIC 513 standard.
