In this work, effect of antistrip additives to reduce moisture damage of asphalt mixture were studied. Asphalt antistripping agents were prepared by condensation of formaldehyde with tetraethylene pentamine (TEPA), triethylenetetramine (TETA) and bis(hexamethylene)-triamine (BHMT), respectively. And also the metal type antistripping agent was prepatred by neutralization of stearic acid or palmitic acid with metal hydroxide. Mechanical characteristics of the asphalt mixture added antistripping agent were evaluated with Marshall stability, submerging residuals and coating rate. It was found that antistripping agent prepared in this study reduced moisture damages of asphalt mixtures. In particular, asphalt mixtures added BHMT and C/S (Calcium stearate hydroxide) antistripping agent showed highest submerging and coating rate. Because BHMT and C/S type antistripping agent was to improve bonding between asphalt and aggregate owing to increase of amine concentration and role of metal surfactant.

Pot-holes are steadily increasing due to abnormal climate such as heavy rainfall and frequent snowfall. Pot-hole related to traffic accidents cause injuries, car damage and distress of road facilities. To reduce pot-holes, the use of an anti-stripping agent is mandatorily recommended to asphalt concrete mixture. Hydrated lime is commonly used as anti-stripping agent due to the convenience and economics. Byproduct ash from circulating fluidized bed boiler was reviewed as an anti stripping agent. According to the test results, the byproduct ash is satisfied with TSR specification using 1% to 3% by weight of the asphalt mixture. The byproduct ash was examined under various condition changes of aggregate and asphalt concrete mixture considering quality movement. According to the results, using the byproduct ash was measured average 0.87 of TSR and coverage rates of 60% after rolling bottle test. Test results also revealed that the byproduct ash showed stable performance. Using the byproduct ash to decrease pot-hole in asphalt concrete pavement is suitable for demonstrating stable performance as anti-stripping agent.
This study is to evaluate the property for the moisture susceptibility of asphalt mixtures using anti-stripping agent. Asphalt mixtures using lime, hydrated lime and liquid anti-stripping agent are evaluated through the three types of modified moisture conditioning($H_c$, V_s$, F-T). Indirect Tensile Test, that is recommended by AASHTO TP-9, which includes creep test, resilient modulus test and strength test is used to estimate moisture susceptibility. Analysis method through Energy Ratio(ER) that is proposed by Roque at University of Florida is used to evaluate moisture susceptibility and moisture resistance effects of asphalt mixtures using anti-stripping agent. As a test result, material property of asphalt mixtures was changed by moisture conditioning methods and the types of anti-stripping agent. Also, cracking resistance of accumulated moisture damage was changed by moisture conditioning methods and the types of anti-stripping agent. Based on test result, it was found that cracking resistance using Energy Ratio was differed from 10% to 30%.

This study was performed to evaluate the characteristics of waste foundry sand (WFS) and the asphalt mixture made of a foundry waste sand. To estimate the applicability of WFS, chemical and physical properties were measured by XRF(X-ray fluorescent), and SEM(Scanning electronic microfilm). To improve the stripping resistance of WFS asphalt mixture, anti-stripping agents (a hydrated lime and a liquid anti-stripping agent) were used. To improve tensile properties and durability of WFS asphalt concrete mixture, LDPE(low-density polyethylene) was used as an asphalt modifier Marshall mix design, indirect tensile strength, tensile strength ratio(TSR) after freezing and thawing, moisture susceptibility and wheel tracking tests were carried out to evaluate performance of WFS asphalt concrete. Comparing with conventional asphalt concrete, WFS asphalt concretes showed similar or the better qualify in mechanical properties, and satisfied all specification limits. Therefore, it Is concluded that waste foundry sand can be recycled as an asphalt pavement material.
The asphalt antistripping agents were synthesized from ethylenediamine (ED) or N,N'-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)ethylenediamine (HEED) with three different fatty acids. The formation of amide bonds were successfully performed and confirmed by FT-IR and $^1H-NMR$ data. The adhesive properties of antistripping agents were compared in terms of contact angle and BBS test. The reaction product of ED with waste animal fat exhibited the most hydrophobic by the contact angle measurement, and the strongest water resistance of 94 % by BBS test. However, the reaction product of ED with waste vegetable oil showed the strongest absolute bond strength of ca. 3610 and 3227 kPa for before and after water conditioning, respectively. For the bond strength in general, the reaction products of ED were superior to HEED reaction products, and the reaction products of animal fat and waste vegetable oil were superior to those of pure soybean oil.
본 특집기사는 미국 NCAT(National Center for Asphalt Technology)에서 실험한 보고서(Hurley 및 Prowell, Evaluation of Sasobit for Use in Warm Asphalt, 2005)를 정리한 것으로 아스팔트 중온포장에 대해 연구하는 사람들에게 어느 정도 도움을 주고자 일부 내용을 번역하였다.
We investigated the optimal concentration of lidocaine and MS-222 (tricaine methanesulfonate) for the exfoliation and recovery of abalone, Haliotis discus hannai in different shell lengths, for the purpose of preventing the damage of shell and muscle. However, most anaesthetics applied at present have a strong toxic effect on abalone. MS-222 is the only anaesthetic which is approved for use in food fish by FDA, and lidocaine belongs to a group of anaesthetic which are used in human medicine. These chemicals were evaluated as anaesthetic for different shell size of abalone. The response varied for different shell size groups (shell length 1, 2 and 3 cm). In this study, we suggested the result that the exfoliation and recovery time by lidocaine and MS-222 in shell length 1 cm group were more shorter than in 3 cm group. In shell length 1 cm group, the optimal concentrations of lidocaine and MS-222 for anaesthetic were 200 ppm and 100 ppm, respectively. Lidocaine and MS-222 are preferable to other conventional abalone anaesthetics since these are cheap, safe and convenient to use.

PURPOSES: The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of anti-stripping on asphalt mixtures constituting anti-stripping agents. METHODS : Based on the literature review, asphalt mixture added with anti-stripping agents was prepared, and these asphalt mixtures were evaluated for anti-stripping properties for each anti-stripping agent through various lab tests, namely, tensile strength ratio (TSR), dynamic immersion test, uniaxial compression test, and indirect tensile strength test (IDT). The liquid anti-stripping agents used in the lab test were premixed with each asphalt binder (PG 64-22, PG 76-22) before being mixed with the aggregate. RESULTS :The result of the TSR test revealed that the effect of anti-stripping was highest when hydrated lime and liquid anti-stripping agent W were added. The correlation coefficient $R^2$ between the TSR result and cohesion ratio is 0.99, which indicates that the sensitivity of the TSR to moisture damage is reliable from the mechanical point of view. The covering ratio of the asphalt binder to the liquid anti-stripping agent W was determined to be higher than that to the other liquid anti-stripping agents. CONCLUSIONS :It is considered that the improved moisture resistance of asphalt mixture as a result of the use of anti-stripping agents can reduce the incidence of various pavement damages such as portholes caused by stripping, and the performance life of the asphalt road pavement can be prolonged.

Concrete is a material generally used to build structures and it is exposed to various environment conditions. In particular, a medium such as water lets noxious factors flow into concrete, causing a lot of damage. Therefore, different kinds of materials are being developed to increase the durability of concrete. Among such materials, silane and siloxane compound are known to have a high utilization as an absorption inhibitor. However, if aged or deteriorated reinforced concrete is treated with those compounds, they easily come off the concrete and lose their function since the basic material is weak. This study conducted an experiment to provide concrete with both an absorption-inhibiting effect and surface strengthening by using melamine-formaldehyde resins that are surface-treated with siloxane compound. In addition, a study on the porosity and surface hardness characteristics of a concrete was conducted to check the absorption-inhibiting effect and surface strengthening.
