Application of Biodiesel Fuel and EGR Method in an IDI Diesel Engine (간접분사식 디젤기관에서 바이오디젤유 및 EGR 방법 적용)

  • In this study, the potential possibility of biodiesel fuel was investigated as an alternative fuel for a naturally aspirated indirect injection diesel engine. The smoke emission of biodiesel fuel was reduced remarkably in comparison with diesel fuel, that is, it was reduced approximately 36% at 2000rpm, full load condition. And, power, torque and brake specific energy consumption showed no significant differences. However, NOx emission of biodiesel fuel was increased compared with commercial diesel fuel. Also, the effects of exhaust gas recirculation(EGR) to reduce the NOx emission has been investigated. It was found that simultaneous reduction of smoke and NOx was achieved with biodiesel fuel(20vol-%) and cooled EGR method$(10{\sim}15%)$.

  • Recent global warming has been recognized as the world economy development from fossil fuel use is the culprit. This study was reduce the fossil fuel has been developed in a number of alternative energy, As a fuel that can be produced in our country is a biofuel. Biofuels is a sustainable fuel having economically benefits and decreasing environmental pollution problems caused due to fossil fuel. A lot of research is progressing about the conversion of diesel biofuel as renewable clean energy. In this experiment were remodel the institution that has been used in fishing engine again produced an experimental apparatus were installed directly, were studied using various bio fuel like to help the economically and environmentally sound operation of the vessel. rapeseed oil, soybean oil, comprehensively analyzing the results the effects of the exhaust emission characteristics of the waste rapeseed oil is available in a marine engine with similar physical and chemical components of the fuel, and the fuel consumption ratio, NOx is slightly increased, but soot was confirmed a tendency to decrease much.

  • 바이오디젤 보급 활성화에 따른 식물성 원료유의 가격 상승 및 수급 불안정성 문제를 해결하고자 폐유지를 원료로 바이오디젤을 생산하고자 하는 시도가 이루어지고 있다. 폐유지의 사용은 폐자원 활용 측면에서 의미가 있으며 바이오디젤 생산 단가를 낮출 수 있다. 다양한 폐유지가 산업체로부터 배출되며 이 중에서 dark oil은 식용유 공장에서 식물성 원료유의 정제 과정에서 생기는 부산물로 바이오디젤로 전환 가능한 성분을 포함하고 있다. 본 연구에 사용된 dark oil은 54.9%의 유리지방산과 28.0%의 triglyceride, 4.4%의 diglyceride, 그리고 1% 이하의 monoglyceride를 함유하고 있다. Dark oil의 초기 산가는 109.8 mg KOH/g이었다. 본 연구에서는 dark oil의 유지 부분(triglyceride, diglyceride, monoglyceride)을 유리지방산으로 전환시켜 HAAO(high acid acid oil)을 생산한 후, 고체 산 촉매에 의한 에스테르화 반응을 통하여 바이오디젤을 생산하고자 하였다. 유지 부분의 유리지방산 전환 반응을 위하여 음이온성 계면활성제인 SDBS(sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate)가 사용되었다. Dark oil:황산:물의 질량비가 10:2:10이고 SDBS가 오일 대비 3%인 조건에서 dark oil의 산가는 190.8 mg KOH/g까지 증가하였고, dark oil:황산:물의 질량비가 10:4:10이고 SDBS가 2%인 조건에서는 산가가 194.2 mg KOH/g까지 증가하였다. 생산된 HAAO을 이용하여 오일 대비 30%의 Amberlyst-15 촉매 하에서 HAAO:메탄올 몰비 1:9인 조건에서 에스테르화 반응을 수행하였을 경우 FAME(fatty acid methyl ester) 함량은 81.3%까지 증가하였다. 고체 산 촉매로써 Amberlyst-15와 가격 면에서 저렴한 PC101을 비교하였을 경우 FAME 함량은 각각 80.7%, 77.9%로 비슷한 효율을 나타내었다. 생산된 바이오디젤의 FAME 함량을 높이기 위해 증류 공정을 필요로 하였다.

  • In this paper, we analysed fatty acid methyl ester contents in the biodiesel which is produced from the newly developed biodiesel production equipment. The lard oil was used as the raw material through various experimental conditions. Thirty one experiments were conducted, which were based on the experimental conditions that designed by central composite design method. The effects of four independent variables, including reaction temperature, reaction time, oil to methanol molar ratio, and catalytic amount, were investigated at five levels using central composite design (CCD). Fatty acid methyl ester content was chosen dependent variable. Although the results of analysis of the surface with an irregular surface geometry showed that the biodiesel was partially impure after the reaction due to the natural characteristics of the lard oil as the raw material, we could confirm the relationship between them from the facts that the production amount of fatty acid methyl ester changes according to reaction temperature, reaction time, oil to methanol molar ratio, and catalytic amount.

  • Environmental pollution and alternative energy has attracted increasing interest. The use of diesel engines is expected to increase in the world owing to their fuel economy. The problem of air pollution emissions from marine engines is causing a major concern in many areas. An alternative fuel was introduced as an environmentally friendly fuel to reduce the toxic emissions from conventional fossil fuels. Biodiesel fuel, which is a renewable energy is highlighted as environmentally friendly energy. This energy can be operated in regular diesel engines when it is blended with invariable ratios without making changes. In this study, a bio-diesel fuel was produced from waste cooking oil and applied to a marine diesel engine to examine the effects on the characteristics of combustion. Waste cooking oil contains a high cetane number and viscosity component, a low carbon and oxygen content. As a result, the brake specific fuel consumption was increased, and the cylinder pressure, rate pressure rise and rate of heat release were decreased.

  • Biodiesel and its blend fuels from soybean oil were characterized for their oxidation to apply automobile fuel from the analysis of FAME (fatty acid methyl ester) and chemical properties. Biodiesel produced from soybean oil contained unsaturated fatty acids (> 85 wt%) such as oleic acid, linoleic acid, and linolenic acid. Especially, polyunsaturated fatty acids such as linoleic acid and linolenic acid containing active methyl radical were over 60 wt%. It is believed that linoleic acid and linolenic acid cause oxidation. Linoleic acid and linolenic acid during oxidation were major reactants, and compounds with the carbon number having around 36 (boiling point of about $500^{\circ}C$) were produced from those of radical autoxidation.

  • 본 연구는 자유지방산을 포함하고 있는 저품위 유지로부터 바이오디젤을 합성하는데 있어서 외부가열 방법 대신에 마이크로파를 이용한 내부 직접가열 방법으로 고체촉매 반응을 가속화한 연구에 관한 것이다. 대두유를 원료로 KOH 균일촉매를 이용한 전이에스테르화 실험에서는 섭씨 60도 상압조건에서 반응시간 3분에 95.4%의 전환율을 획득했다. 올레산과 고체산촉매를 이용한 자유지방산 제거 실험에서는 섭씨 60도 상압조건에서 solvent free 방식의 S-ZrO2는 반응시간 20분만에 93.7%의 제거율을 보였고 Rohm&Hass사의 Amberlyst-15dry 촉매는 반응시간 30분에 82.0%의 제거율을 보였다. 또한 바이오디젤 합성에 사용된 마이크로파의 총 에너지를 측정한 결과 외부가열 방법에 비해 약 1/3 수준임을 확인했다. 이것은 기존의 heat bath를 이용한 실험결과들과 비교할 때 반응속도가 약 10배 정도 향상되면서도 에너지효율이 높다는 것을 확인한 결과로서, 저품위 유지를 원료로 하는 바이오디젤 생산공정에서 마이크로파가 매우 효율적인 가열수단이 될 수 있음을 보여주었다.

Performance and Emission Studies in a DI Diesel Engine Using Wood Pyrolysis Oil-Bio Diesel Emulsion (목질계 열분해유-바이오 디젤 유상액을 사용하는 직접분사식 디젤 엔진의 엔진성능 및 배기특성에 관한 연구)

  • The vast stores of biomass available in the worldwide have the potential to displace significant amounts of fuels that are currently derived from petroleum sources. Fast pyrolysis of biomass is one of possible paths by which we can convert biomass to higher value products. The wood pyrolysis oil (WPO), also known as the bio crude oil (BCO), has been regarded as an alternative fuel for petroleum fuels to be used in diesel engine. However, the use of WPO in a diesel engine requires modifications due to low energy density, high water contents, low acidity, and high viscosity of the WPO. One of the easiest way to adopt WPO to diesel engine without modifications is emulsification of WPO with diesel or bio diesel. In this study, a DI diesel engine operated with diesel, bio diesel (BD), WPO/BD emulsion was experimentally investigated. Performance and gaseous & particle emission characteristics of a diesel engine fuelled by WPO/BD emulsion were examined. Results showed that stable engine operation was possible with emulsion and engine output power was comparable to diesel and bio diesel operation.

Extension of Low Temperature Combustion Regime by Turbocharging Using Diesel and Biodiesel Fuels (과급에 의한 디젤 및 바이오디젤의 저온연소 운전영역 확장에 관한 연구)

  • Due to its oxygen (O) content, biodiesel (BD) is advantageous in that it lowers PM emissions in CI engines. Therefore, BD is considered one of the best candidates for low temperature combustion (LTC) operation because its use can extend the regime for simultaneous reduction of PM and $NO_x$. Thus, in this study, LTC operation was realized using BD and diesel with a 5~7% $O_2$ fraction. Engine test results show that the use of BD increased the efficiency and reduced emissions such as PM, THC, and CO; furthermore, IMEP reduced by 10~12% owing to the lower LHV of the fuel. In particular, smoke was suppressed by up to 90% because O atoms in the BD enhanced the soot oxidation reaction. To compensate the IMEP loss, turbocharging (TC) was then tested, and the results showed that the power output increased and PM was reduced further. Moreover, TC in BD engine operation allowed a similar level of reduction in both $NO_x$ and PM at 11~12% $O_2$ fraction, suggesting that there is a potential to widen the operating range by the combination of TC and BD.

초임계 유체 기반 액화공정에 의한 바이오연료 생산 기술

  • 최근 화석 연료의 과다 사용에 따른 에너지 자원 고갈 및 환경오염에 대한 우려가 증가함에 따라 비화석연료 기반의 재생가능하고 지속가능하며, 환경친화성이 높은 에너지에 대한 관심이 급증하고 있다. 농산폐기물, 폐목재, 에너지작물, 도시고형폐기물, 미세조류, 거대조류 등 육상 및 해상에서 발생하는 바이오매스는 재생가능한 에너지원으로서 화석원료와는 달리 사용 후 발생하는 이산화탄소를 다시 흡수하는 탄소중립(carbon-nutral)의 특성을 갖고 있어 전세계적으로 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 바이오연료 중 당질계원료를 이용하는 바이오에탄올 및 식물성유지를 이용하는 바이오디젤은 현재 상업적인 생산이 이루어지고 있으나, 이들 1세대 바이오연료는 식량자원과의 경쟁이라는 원천적인 한계를 가지고 있고, 분자구조식에 산소를 포함하고 있기 때문에 기존 화석원료에서 출발하는 가솔린, 항공유 및 디젤과 비교하였을 때 에너지 함량이 낮은 단점이 있다. 따라서 기존 1세대 바이오연료에서 탈피하여, 식량자원과 경쟁이 없으며, 또한 분자구조식에 산소를 적게 포함하거나 아예 포함하지 않는 바이오연료("drop-in" 바이오연료) 생산에 많은 관심이 집중되고 있다. 이 글에서는 최근 그린공정으로 대표되는 초임계 유체를 이용한 "drop-in" 바이오연료를 제조하기 위한 바이오매스 액화의 기술동향을 소개하고자 한다.
