Extinguishing Charactristics of Water Mist by Discharge Properties (방사특성 변화에 따른 미세물분무의 소화특성)

  • Halogen-based fire suppressing agents have been the most effective fire suppressants and widely used for flammable liquid and electric fire. However they have environmental problems causing stratospheric ozone depletion and globe warming. As a substitution of halon, fire suppression system using fine water mist is one of an effective fire suppressant. Suffocating and cooling effects of water mist are increased by the evaporation characteristics because it has droplet size less than 1,000 $\mu{m}$ and very large surface area. In this study, the extinguishing characteristics of fire was measured with changing of water mist droplet size, flow density; discharge pressure, and fire size. As a result, the extinguishing time of pool fire was shortened with the increase of flow density and in case of low flow density less than 0.5$\pm$0.05 ml/$\textrm{cm}^2$ . min, the extinguishing time was shortened with the increase of droplet size. The cycling discharge was effective for $\eta$-heptane pool fire, and total amount of water mist required to extinguish fire was reduced to a quarter compare with continuous discharge.

The Health Effects of PM2.5: Evidence from Korea (대기오염의 건강위해성 연구 - PM2.5를 중심으로 -)

  • This paper reports on the results of epidemiological investigation of daily health effects in the elderly associated with daily exposure to particulate matters in Korea. Our main focus is on the potential difference in health effects between PM10 and PM2.5. While the Korean environmental authority has set an ambient standard for PM10, the government currently does not monitor PM2.5, which has no national standard. A daily data on respiratory symptoms as well as PM concentrations are collected for a total of 120 days. Using a probit model, we find statistically significant negative health effects of PM2.5 on respiratory symptoms among the nonsmoking elderly, while PM10 does not show such effects from the estimation. This result suggests that, for air quality regulatory purposes, PM2.5 can be a more appropriate air pollutant than PM10.

Characterization and source apportionment by factor analysis of water soluble ions in atmospheric particles in Cheonan, Korea (천안시 대기 입자 중 수용성 이온성분의 계절적 특성 및 요인분석을 통한 오염기여도 평가)

  • Seasonal characteristics of water soluble ions in atmospheric particles in Cheonan were studied between 2008 and 2009. $Na^+$, $NH_4^+$ and $NO_3^-$, $SO_4^{2-}$ were the principle cations and anions in both coarse and fine particles. Water soluble ions occupied 24.4%(spring), 33.2%(summer), 40.7%(fall), and 39.6%(winter) of the total mass of coarse particles. In fine particles, 43.0%(spring), 59.7%(summer), 55.4%(fall), and 53.2%(winter) of mass were occupied by water soluble ions. From the factor analysis, 2 and 4 factors were extracted for water soluble ions in coarse and fine particles, respectively. 70.33% of water ions in the coarse particles were estimated from the natural source, but 66.01% in the fine particles were from the anthropogenic source.

  • The detection of micro cracks in materials at the early stage of fracture is important in many structural safety assurance problems. The nonlinear ultrasonic technique (NUT) has been considered as a positive method for this, since it is more sensitive to micro crack than conventional linear ultrasonic methods. The basic principle is that the waveform is distorted by nonlinear stress-displacement relationship on the crack interface when the ultrasonic wave transmits through, and resultantly higher order harmonics are generated. This phenomenon is called the contact acoustic nonlinearity (CAN). The purpose of this paper is to prove the applicability of CAN experimentally by detection of micro fatigue crack artificailly initiated in Aluminum specimen. For this, we prepared fatigue specimens of Al6061 material with V-notch to initiate the crack, and the amplitude of second order harmonic was measured by scanning along the crack direction. From the results, we could see that the harmonic amplitude had good correlation with COD and it can be used to detect the crack depth in more accurately than the common 6 dB drop echo method.

An Analysis of Newspaper Articles on Fine Particle Matter Using Text Mining Techniques (텍스트마이닝을 이용한 미세먼지 관련 신문기사 분석)

  • This study aims to examine the trend and characteristics of newspaper articles concerned with fine particle matter. Newspaper articles since 1995 collected from Bigkinds were analyzed using text mining techniques, sentiment analysis and regression analysis. Air pollution measurement and domestic pollutants appeared frequently previously, but "China" became the keyword in the 2010s along with political action, the effects on the health, AD/PR, and domestic pollutants. Korea JoongAng Daily, Hankyoreh and Kyunghyang Shinmun have had more focused on political regulations whereas most regional daily newspapers on emission sources and reduction measures at the regional level. The results of this study are expected to be used as a reference for understanding the trend of newspaper articles. Future work includes further analysis and discussion of fine particle pollution condition and news reports in the post-COVID era.

Microstructural refinement of hypereutectic Al-Si alloys for semi-solid state processing (반고상 성형을 위한 과공정 Al-Si 합금의 조직 미세화)

  • 금속을 반고상 상태에서 성형하기 위하여 미세조직학적 거동을 밝히기 위해, 본 연 구에서는 높은 비강도, 내마모성을 가진 과공정 Al-Si 합금을 반응고 가공하였을 때의 미세 조직과 상온 가공 후 반고상 온도로 일정시간 유지하였을 때의 미세조직을 관찰하였다. 일 반주조시의 개량 원소 P과 Sr을 첨가하였으며 쐐기형 주조재, 압연재, Si 입자강화 Alrl 복 합재료를 반고상 상태로 가열한 미세조직을 관찰하여 초정 Si입자의 형상 변화를 관찰하였 다. 반응고 교반시 초기에는 P과 Sr의 첨가에 의해 초정 Si입자가 미세화 되었으나 교반이 지속되어 가면서 이러한 경향은 감소하였으며 구상에 가까운 형태로 변화 하였는데, 이는 교반이 지속되면서 첨가 원소의 효과보다 교반 자체의 미세조직 변화 기구에의 의존도가 높 아지기 때문인 것으로 사료된다. 냉각속도를 달리한 쐐기 형상에서의 금형에서 주조된 미세 조직을 관찰한 결과 냉각속도가 느릴 때에만 첨가원소의 영향이 나타났으며, 반고상 온도 유지 후 초정 크기에는 큰 변화가 없었으나 $\alpha$-halo가 형성되고 미세한 Si입자가 생성되었 다. 이는 입자 크기의 성장에 따른 주위의 농도구배로 인해 생성된 것으로 사료된다. 압연시 첨가원소는 핵생성과 재결정을 촉진시켜 초정 Si의 크기를 크게 감소시켰다. 반용융 처리시 초정 Si입자는 약간 성장하였으며, $\alpha$-halo도 생성되었다. 압출한 시료를 반용융 처리한 경 우 Si입자의 형상 변화는 거의 없었으며, Si입자에 형성되어 있던 산화막이 기지와 초정 Si 압자간의 확산장벽으로 작용하여 $\alpha$-halo가 거의 생성되지 않았다. 반응고 교반시 미세조직 변화 기구로는 취성파괴, 합체, 마모를 제안하였으며, 각 공정에서의 초정 Si결정의 크기를 비교하였을 때 45$\mu\textrm{m}$ 이하의 분말을 섞어 압출하였을 때 가장 작은 초정 Si입자 크기를 얻음 을 볼 수 있었다.

Microencapsulation of aronia extract and stability of encapsulated anthocyanins during sulgidduk cooking (아로니아 추출물의 미세캡슐 제조 및 설기떡의 안토시아닌 안정성 연구)

  • Aronia (Aronia melanocarpa cv. Viking) contains high amounts of anthocyanins, which are susceptible to heat. This study was conducted to identify an efficient coating material for encapsulating aronia extract to enhance the stability of anthocyanins during cooking. Maltodextrin, maltodextrin+gum Arabic, and maltodextrin+carboxymethyl cellulose were chosen as the coating materials, mixed with aronia extract at a ratio of 2:1, and freeze-dried after homogenization. The encapsulated aronia extract was then used as a sulgidduk ingredient. Sulgidduk prepared with the encapsulated aronia had significantly higher values for redness, anthocyanin retention, total phenolic content, and antioxidant activity compared to sulgidduk prepared with non-encapsulated aronia. In addition, the sensory evaluation revealed that sulgidduk prepared with encapsulated aronia produced better color and taste. These results indicate that the encapsulation of aronia extract improved the stability of the anthocyanins in aronia, and encapsulated aronia can be used as a functional colorant in the food industry.

Study on the influence of i/p interfacial properties on the cell performance of flexible nip microcrystalline silicon thin film solar cells (i/p 계면 특성에 따른 nip 플렉서블 미세결정질 실리콘 박막 태양전지의 특성 연구)

  • 스테인레스 스틸 유연기판 위에 플라즈마 화학기상 증착법 (plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition)을 이용하여 nip 구조의 미세결정질 실리콘 박막 태양전지 (microcrystalline silicon thin film solar cell)를 제조하고 i ${\mu}c$-Si:H광 흡수층과 p ${\mu}c$-Si:H 사이에 i a-Si:H 버퍼 층을 삽입하여 i/p 계면특성을 개선하고 이에 따른 태양전지 성능특성 변화를 조사하였다. ${\mu}c$-Si:H 박막으로 이루어진 i/p 계면에서의 구조적, 전기적 결함은 태양전지 내에서 생성된 캐리어의 재결합과 shunt resistance 감소를 초래하여 개방전압 (open circuit voltage) 및 곡선 인자 (fill factor)를 감소시키는 것으로 알려졌다. 제조된 미세결정질 실리콘 박막 태양전지는 SUS/Ag/ZnO:Al/n ${\mu}c$-Si:H/i ${\mu}c$-Si:H/p ${\mu}c$-Si:H 구조로 제작되었으며 i/p 계면 사이의 i a-Si;H 버퍼층 두께를 변화시키고 이에 따른 태양전지의 특성을 조사하였다. 태양전지의 구조적, 전기적 특성 변화는 Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), UV-visible-nIR spectrometry, Photo IV와 Dark IV를 통하여 조사하였다.

Comparision of Missing Imputaion Methods In fine dust data (미세먼지 자료에서의 결측치 대체 방법 비교)

  • Missing value replacement is one of the big issues in data analysis. If you ignore the occurrence of the missing value and proceed with the analysis, a bias can occur and give incorrect results for the estimate. In this paper, we need to find and apply an appropriate alternative to missing data from weather data. Through this, we attempted to clarify and compare the simulations for various situations using existing methods such as MICE and MissForest based on R and time series-based models. When comparing these results with each variable, it was determined that the kalman filter of the auto arima model using the ImputeTS package and the MissForest model gave good results in the weather data.

다양한 기판을 Etching한 표면에 RF-Magnetron Sputtering방법으로 증착된 PTFE 박막의 발수 특성

  • 초발수 표면은 자가세정, 부식방지, 방오특성의 특징을 가진다. 이러한 특성은 오염성이 높은 건물외장재 및 자동차유리, 태양전지 모듈유리, 디스플레이등 적용분야가 매우 다양하며, 코팅 방법으로 sol-gel, CVD, PVD등의 여러 가지 방법으로 많은 연구가 보고 되고 있다. 초발수 표면을 제작하는 대표적인 방법으로 PTFE와 같은 낮은 표면에너지를 가지는 물질을 증착하는 방법이 많이 사용되고 있으나, 초발수 표면에 가까운 접촉각을 구현하기에는 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 여러 가지 기판(Al, Cu, Sus, glass)에 추가적으로 표면 미세요철구조를 만들어 특성을 분석 하였다. 표면의 미세구조는 기판을 산에 Etching 하는 방법으로 Sample을 준비 하였다. 준비된 기판에 RF-Magnetron Sputtering 방법을 이용하여 PTFE를 증착하여 특성을 분석 하였다. 표면과 물방울이 이루는 각도를 알아보기 위해 Contact Angle을 측정한 결과 Glass와 Sus 기판을 제외한 Al과 Cu기판에서 약 150도에 이르는 초발수 특성을 보였으며, 이러한 표면형상을 관찰하기 위해서 SEM 측정을 해본 결과 표면의 미세요철구조가 확인 되었으며, AFM 측정결과 표면의 미세요철의 거칠기가 Etching공정을 통해 증가 된 것을 확인할 수 있었으며, Etching후 Al과 Cu는 수 nm ~ mm의 거칠기를 보였으며, 거칠기가 증가하여 접촉각의 향상에 기여 하였으리라 생각된다. XPS 측정결과 낮은 표면에너지를 가지는 CF2와 CF3 피크가 보이는 것으로 보아 표면에너지가 낮아져 접촉각이 높아졌으리라 사료 된다.
