A Study on the Treatment of soil Flushing Effluent Using Electrofloatation (전기부상법을 이용한 토양세정 유출수 처리에 관한 연구)

  • The optimal operation conditions, including voltage applied, reaction time, distance between electrodes. and electrode material. were investigated for the treatment of soil flushing effluent using electrofloatation. When 3V was applied for 1 hour, 88% oil-water separation efficiency was achieved. In case of 6V and above, 90% efficiencies were achieved. As reaction time and distance between electrodes were longer, separation efficiencies were higher and lower, respectively. Separation efficiencies for different anode materials were copper > aluminum > iron > titanium. It might result from the differences of their electrical conductivities.

  • Contaminated sediments more than 30 million/$m^3$ is generated from dredging work for harbours and coastal maintenance in Korea. Approximately 300 million/$m^3$ of sediments is dredged to deepen harbours and shipping lanes in US and of which $3{\sim}12million/m^3$ is highly contaminated. Although much is known about technologies for the remediation of heavy metal contaminated soil, much less is known about the treatment of contaminated sediment. In general, negatively charged fine particles will migrate towards positively charged system of electrodes under the influence of electrophoresis. However, the electrically induced migration of colloidal particles contaminated with heavy metals may be hindered by the positively charged heavy metal contaminants adsorbed onto the soil surfaces depending on the contamination level. This paper demonstrates settling behaviour of clayey soil by comparison with electrophoretic particle movement under the effects of heavy metal contamination, applied electric field strength, and its polarity changed by the electrode configuration.

  • Micromorphological features of Bhorizon of Honam series were investigated by means of thin sections of natural undisturbed, oriented soil samples. Thin sections show that the B horizons have argillic accumulations. Argillic horizon was developed at the utmost in B21t horizon. Channel, and skew plane cutans were identified in B21t horizon and stress cutans are presented in B24t horizon. Such a continuous oriented argillans related to channels and skew planes decreased with increasing depth.

  • This study is conducted to find out soil erodibility factor K value which is one of the most important factor to estimate soil loss using a new method for predicting K value, the nomograph, that was first proposed by Whischmeier. K values for 83 soil series including upland and forest soils in Korea were checked up. The result were as follows: The average K value was 0.27 with ranging between 0.05 and 0.51. K values were higher for finer textured soils than for coarser textured soils widely ranged in a textural class, and higher for silty textured and low permeable soils. K value was correlated inversely with organic matter content in range of 3 to 13 percent, but the tendency was not related in range of lower than 3 percent.

  • 미세플라스틱은 해양, 육상, 담수 및 대기환경에서 광범위하게 검출되고 있고 미세플라스틱에 대한 사람들의 우려가 커지고 있다. 담수환경에서의 미세플라스틱의 이동, 분포, 축척에 대한 연구는 해양환경에 비해 한정적으로 이루어지며, 하천은 종종 내륙에서 해양으로 미세플라스틱을 운반하는 경로로만 고려된다. 추후의 미세플라스틱의 저감정책 수립이나 이행에 있어서 미세플라스틱의 거동파악은 우선적으로 이루어져야한다. 따라서 오염의 생성에 영향을 미치는 유역의 작용을 가장 잘 표현하고, 단순히 전체의 상태를 설명하기보다는 인과관계를 밝히는 데에는 모델이 적합하다. 기후, 표면 유출, 토양이나 영양물질을 비롯한 오염물질의 부하 등을 잘 표현하고 수체 내부에서의 수질까지 동시에 시뮬레이션 가능한 기존의 잘 개발된 유역 모델의 주요 변수들은 미세플라스틱의 하천에서의 거동을 모의할 수 있다. 그 예로서 본 연구에서 HSPF의 유사(Sediment) 컴포넌트를 수정하여, 유역모델을 활용한 미세플라스틱 거동 모의 가능성을 입증하려고 한다.

  • 토양 수분은 육상 생태계를 지배하는 핵심 변수로 널리 간주되어 왔다. 따라서 토양 수분을 모니터링하고 추정하는 것은 수문, 농업, 생화학적, 및 기후 역학을 평가하는 데 필수적이다. 그러나 최대 토양 접촉을 요구하는 기존의 토양 수분 모니터링 방법은, 토양 교란을 최소화하여 토양의 고유 특성을 보전하지 못하는 한계가 있다. 이 문제를 극복하기 위해 본 연구에서는 비접촉 초음파 시스템을 이용하여 토양 수분을 평가 방법을 개발하였다. 이 시스템은 공기-토양 조인트 절반 공간에서 누설 레일리파(Rayleigh wave)를 측정하도록 설계되었다. 토양 수분의 변화에 대한 누설 레일리파의 측정은 통제된 실험 설계에서 모래, 실트, 점토와 같은 세 가지 토양 유형에서 평가하였다. 본 연구 결과에서 세 가지 토양 사례 모두, 누설 레일리파의 에너지와 토양 수분 사이에 밀접한 관계가 있음을 보였다. 그러나 모래에서 얻은 동적 매개변수의 특성은 실트 및 점토의 특성과 다른 형태를 보였다. 이러한 결과는 미세한 토양 입자와 대조적으로 굵은 토양 입자는 증발 과정에서 감소된 토양 강도로 설명될 수 있다. 관측된 누설 레일리파에서 얻은 동적 매개변수를 기반으로 토양 수분을 평가하기 위해 랜덤 포레스트 모형을 이용하였다. 예측된 토양 수분의 정확도는 모든 데이터 및 토양 유형에 관계없이 높은 정확도를 보였다(R2 ≥ 0.98, RMSE ≤ 0.0089 m3 m-3). 즉, 본 연구에서는 레일리파가 토양 교란 없이 토양 수분 변화를 지속적으로 평가할 수 있는 큰 잠재력을 가지고 있음을 보여주었다.

  • In order to find out the effects of soil conditioner treatment on the water movement in sandy loam and silt loam soils were treated with two different kinds of soil conditioners, hydrophobic Bitumen 0.4% or hydrophillic Uresol 0.6%, and the changes of wetting angle (soil-water contact angle), penetrability and diffusivity were measured. The results were summarized as follows: 1. Uresol 0.6% treatment decreased the wetting angle of sandy loam more than $10^{\circ}$, but there was no big difference in silt loam. 2. Sandy loam soil was changed to almost hydrophobic and the wetting angle of silt loam soil was increased to $84.9^{\circ}$ as compared to $76.0^{\circ}$ of untreated soil by Bitumen 0.4% treatment. 3. By Uresol treatment, penetrability of sandy loam was doubled but there was not difference in silt loam, and it was decreased to half in two soils by Bitumen treatment. 4. A significant positive correlation between penetrability and the cosine of wetting angle was recognized. 5. Soil water diffusivity was greatly changed by soil conditioner treatment, and the big differences were appeared at lower soil moisture content.

  • Soils and sediments have been uniquely tagged by radioactive isotopes as a result of nuclear test explosions in the 1950's and 1960's. Fallout $^{137}Cs$ strongly fixed to fine soil particles, was measured in sediment profiles in Larto Lake to calculate the sedimentation rate as a time dependence. The Lake sediment profiles indicated an average rate of 1.6 to 3.1 cm/yr of sediment deposition since 1958. The rate of sediment depositions clearly decreased with time. Particle size distribution in sediment was reflected almost fine particles in lake.

The Effects of Different Particle Sizes of Fused Phosphate on Paddy Rice (수도(水滔)에 대한 용성인비(熔成燐肥)의 입도별(粒度別) 비효에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • The effects of different particle size distribution of fused phosphate on the changes of phosphorus content in soil and plant, growth and yield of paddy rice were investigated through pot and field experiments. The following results were obtained. 1. Negative correlation was found between unhulled rice yield and the composition of fused phosphate whose particle size was larger than 28 mesh, and 65 to 150 mesh, and highly significant correlation was found between unhulled rice yield and the composition of fused phosphate whose particle size was 28 to 48 mesh. But no significant correlation was found betweeen unhulled rice yield and the composition of fused phosphate whose particle size was 48 to 65 mesh. Thus the composition of 56% of 28 to 48 mesh particles and 44% of 48 to 65 mesh particles would give the best effect. 2. In the soil of the Jeonbug series rice plant in the plots treated with fine single textured fused phosphate showed poor early growth, i.e. poor tillering and short plant height. But at harvesting stage it showed rather increased number of tillers and higher plant height. Of the composite fused phosphate the more particles of 28 to 48 mesh it had, the better growth it showed. In the soil of the Yesan series rice plant in the treated plots showed much better tillering and higher plant height in contrast with that in the control plots. Of the single textured fused phosphate the finer particles showed better growth, while of the composite fused phosphate the more particles finer than 48 mesh it had, the poorer the tillering. 3. The content of available phosphorus in the soil tended to increase as the particles of both single textured and composite phosphate became finer. The soil phosphorus content decreased as the content of phosphorus absorbed by rice plant increased at each stage of growth, and the amount of soil phophorus decreased became larger as the the particles were finer. The amount of available phosphorus in the treated soils was larger in the soil of the Yesan series than in the soil of the Jeonbug series which was a long cultivated soil and contained relatively high phosphorus. 4. In the single textured fused phosphate the amount of phosphorus absorbed by rice plant tended to increase as the particles were finer, and great difference was found at heading stage, but at harvesting stage little difference was found for all the plots. In the field experiment in the soil of the Jeonbug series more phosphorus was absorbed by rice plant in the plots treated with the composite fused phosphate of higher content of 28 to 48 mesh particles. In the pot experiment the amount of phosphorus absorbed by rice plant was highest in the plots treated with the composite fused phosphate of 53.35% of particles larger than 48 mesh and 46.6% of particles smaller than 48 mesh. In the pot experiment in the Yesan series the amount of absorbed phophorus was highest in the plots treated with the fused phosphate of 47.75% of particles larger than 48 mesh and 50. 216% of particles smaller than 48 mesh. 5. A reverse relationship was found between the absorbed phosphorus and silica. In the pot experiment in the soils of both the Jeonbug and Yesan series the amount of phosphorus absorbed by rice plant increased as the particles were finer, while the amount of absorbed silica tended to decrease.
