An extended Kalman filter (EKF) algorithm for estimating aerodynamic parameters from missile flight data is evaluated using simulated test data. The algorithm includes a general purpose 6-DOF missile airframe suitable for representing a variety of missile configurations. The EKF is demonstrated to be well suited as a postflight analysis tool for extracting large numbers of airframe parameters from flight test measurements. A structure identification algorithm is evaluated using synthetic measurement data. This algorithm used in conjunction with the parameter identification algorithm, can select that model from a family of candidate models which most likely produced the synthetic measurement data.
North Korea conducted the launcher test, which, as North Korea claimed, belonged to the sovereign rights for the purpose of peaceful utilization and exploration of the outer space. The launching was allegedly done for the sole purpose of putting the satellite into earth orbit, while international community stressed the fact that the orbiting of satellite was not confirmed and that the technology used was not distinct from the purpose of building intercontinental ballistic missile. UN Security Council adopted the resolutions which took the effect that the launching was deemed as the missile launching, not the mere launcher test. North Korea declared the moratorium of suspending its test activity. Controversial issues have been raised regarding whether the launcher itself has the legal status of enjoying the freedom of space flight based upon the 1967 Outer Space Treaty. The resolutions, however, has put forward a binding instrument forbidding the launching. UN Security Council resolutions, however, should be read not as defining the missile test illegal, in that the language of resolutions, such as 'demand', should be considered as not formulating a sort of obligatory act or inact. On the other hand, the resolutions should be read as having binding force with respect to any activity relating to the weapons of mass destruction. The resolution 1718 is written in more specific language such as 'decides that the DPRK shall suspend all activities related to its ballistic missile programme and in this context re-establish its pre-existing commitments to a moratorium on missile launching'. Therefore, the lauching activity of the North Korea is banned by the UN Security Council resolution. It should be noted that the resolution does not include any specific provisions defining the space of activity of the North Korea as illegal. But, the legal effect of the moratorium is not denied as to its launching itself, which is corresponding to the missile test clearisibanned in accordance with the resolutions.

In this study the aerodynamic characteristics of a canard-controlled missile with freely spinning tailfins were investigated by using a semi-empirical method and a CFD code. The mean aerodynamic coefficients for the rolling and roll damping moments were first calculated and then used to predict the roll-rate of freely spinning tailfins. The calculation of roll-rate in the CFD code was carried out by combining a Chimera overset grid system and 6-DOF analysis module. The predicted roll-rate was in good agreement with the experimental data for the roll and yaw canard control inputs. It was also shown that the results are in good agreement with the prediction by a CFD code. This indicates that the semi-empirical method can be used to predict the roll-rate of a canard-controlled missile with freely spinning tailfins.

An efficient estimation of the aerodynamic characteristics for missile configurations is essential in the preliminary stage of a missile design. In this study, a Missile DATCOM family code based on the semi-empirical method was utilized for this purpose. In order to check the accuracy and reliability of the code several test cases have been considered: subsonic flow with high angles of attack and supersonic flow with moderate angles of attack. It turned out that the code in general provides prediction in qualitative agreement with the experimental data and results by other works. Finally, the code was applied to a more complicated missile configuration with canard and freely spinning tail fin.
This research focuses on analysis of the flight trajectory characteristics of SLBM (Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile) of North Korea. Recently, North Korea tested launching of SLBM which is threatening international security. Also it is known that North Korea had possessed the technologies about SLBM since they disassembled submarines out of commission of the former Soviet Union. If the development of the SLBM of North Korea is completed, it should be affected as asymmetric threat to South Korea. Therefore, for active respondence to these threat, it is essential to analyze the SLBM systematically. In this point of view, this work made a SLBM flight model and simulated. In addition, we controled flight trajectories according to adjusting loft angle and described their characteristics. The sea-based ballistic missile defense system is required for an effective response to the flight trajectory of the SLBM from mid-course to terminal phase.

During the modern battlefields of multi-batches flight formation attack situation, it is an essential task for a commander to make a proper fire distribution of air defense missile launch platforms for threat targets with effectively and quickly. Pan et al. try to solve this problem using genetic algorithm, but they are fails. This paper gets the initial feasible solution using high threat target first destroying strategy only use 75% available fire of each missile launch platform. Then, the assigned missile is moving to another target in the case of decreasing total threat. As a result of experiment, while the proposed algorithm is polynomial-time complexity greedy algorithm but this can be improve the solution than genetic algorithm.
In most positioning and allocation practices, many mathematical models are proposed in various fields. The set covering (SC) problem has many practical applications of modeling not only real world problem but also in military. As our air defense weapon systems are getting older and declining the performance, new plans far acquisition of high-tech air defense weapon system are being conducted. In this paper we established simulation model for optimal allocation of KDX which carries new missile defense weapon system by using partial set covering considering both attacker and defender side. By implementating simulation model, we assess the available scenarios and show the optimal pre-positioning of KDX and interceptor's allocation. Furthermore, we provide a variety of experiments and extensive scale sized situations for Korea Indigenous Missile Defense (KIMD) and support decision-making for efficient positioning of unit.
The launching of the Taepo-dong 1 on 31 August 1998 by the North Korea was the first case where the diplomatic protests was made against the flight, the purpose of which, the launching State claimed, consisted in space exploration and use. It is the principle regarding the freedom of space exploration and use, as included in the international treaty, that is relevant in applying the various rules and in defining the legal status of the flight. Its legal status, however, was not actually taken into account, as political negotiations leading to the test moratorium has been successful until present day in freezing the political crisis. This implies that the rules of the law lack the validity and logic sufficient in dictating the conduct of the States. This case shows that, in effect, it is not the rule but the politics that is to govern the status of the flight.

Japan has a lot of interest about weapons systems development of surrounding national and has invested heavily in securing intelligence assets to get information about them, because of conflict issues between Japan and Russia with four northern islands, China with Senkaku Islands and entry policy into the Pacific. Japan has used a large budget to detect and intercept ballistic missile for reasons of the launch of the Taepodong missile in 1998. After took over SIGINT equipments which U.S. force had operated in 1950s~1960s, Japan made a technological analysis and advanced IT technology to produce superior equipments. Japan's SDF has installed them in 19 locations across Japan. In addition, Japan's JASDF has installed advanced early warning RADAR to detect aircraft and high speed ballistic missile entering JADIZ with S-band in 28 locations across Japan. It is possible to detect missile launch preparations, engine tests, and launch moments at any time for operation of 6 satellites high resolution reconnaissance system and 6 aegis ships. In close cooperation with the US, Japan is accessible to the SBIRS networks which detects the launch of a ballistic missile in neighboring countries. In the future, Because the United States wants Japan to act as part of the United States in East, south Asia, it is believed that the exchange of intelligence on the surrounding countries between two countries will be enhanced.
