This paper presents an anti-lock braking system for commercial vehicles with pneumatic brake system by using slip ratio. By virtue of system reliability, most commercial vehicles adopt pneumatic brake system. However, pneumatic brake systems control is more difficult than hydraulic systems due to a longer time delay and the system nonlinearity. One of the major factors in generating braking forces is the wheel slip ratio. Accordingly, the proposed ABS strategy employs the slip ratio threshold-based valve on/off control. This threshold-based algorithm is simple but effective to control the pneumatic brake systems. The control performance of the proposed algorithm has been validated via simulation studies using MATLAB/Simulink and Trucksim. The results show ABS by using slip ratio reduces the braking distance and improves vehicle control.
This paper considers modelling and control of ABS(Anti-skid Brake System) which avoids dangerous wheel locking due to excessive brake pressure during the vehicle braking. The brake pressure is controlled by on and off's of solenoid valves via the variation of the wheel circumferential deceleration measured using tacho-sensors. The dynamic model between the brake pressure and the wheel acceleration of a vehicle is mathematically derived. The computer simulation shows that the threshold value of the on-off control is critical to the performance of the ABS.
The solenoid valve in ABS hydraulics, modulator is a two directional on-off valve and is controlled by around 100Hz high speed pulse width modulation. When the inlet valve is switched from open state to closed state, there are braking force degration, noise and vibration due to pressure surge phenomena in the hydraulic line and wheel cylinder. In this study, identifies pressure surge phenomenon in the braking process of a ABS, and investigates the way to reduce the phenomenon. For the purpose theoretical analysis on the pressure surge in the closed state hydraulic line, characteristic curve method based on wave equation was utilized. During this analysis, we could find pressure surge characteristics change due to hydraulic line change and PWM control conditions. In conclusion, by using the results of this study for the pressure surge prediction and reduction method, we could expect braking performance enhancement in Anti-Lock Braking System.
Safety systems for road vehicles have been rapidly developed in recent years. Especially, the VDC(Vehicle dynamics Control) system is a new active safety system for road vehicles which controls its dynamic vehicle motion in emergency situations . In the case of configuring the VDC system by utilizing the ABS(Anti-lock Brake System), the role of a control logic which directly influences the vehicle motion is very important. In this study the performance of the VDC vehicle was compared to the performances of the CBS (Conventional Brake system )and ABS vehicle. For various driving conditions , the simulation of vehicle dynamics with known VDC control logics was performed. Analysis results showed the VDC vehicle could stably perform even on the road of low coefficient of friction. In addition it was shown that the basic control logic for the VDC system could outstandingly improve driving stability in the case of braking as well as constant speed cruising.
In this study, a hydraulic modulator of solenoid-flow type ABS, the master sylinder, and the wheel cylinder are modeled and simulated for increasing pressure characteristics of the brake. Response can be predicted by external force of the the master sylinder and pulses to the solenoid valve as input. For a demonstration of simulation result, experiment is done under the same condition as simulation condition after experimental apparatus of 1/4 car model is constructed. When factors of flow control valve are changed, the effect of each factor to response, how to improve response, and the most critical factors are considered from simulated result of time constant.
ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) is a safety device for preventing wheel locking in a sudden braking. It consists of hydraulic modulator, ECU(Electronic Control Unit) and angular velocity sensors. Its control methods are classified into three types; deceleration control, slip ratio control and deceleration/acceleration control. In this paper, ABS mounted vehicle is mathematically modeled and the proposed model is verified by actual cars experiments, and the braking characteristics of the control methods with pulse width modulation are compared and analyzed through computer simulations.
