The Common Core States Standards was developed by building on the best state standards in the U.S.; examining the expectations of other highperforming countries around world; and carefully studying the research and literature available on what students need to know. The Common Core States Standards for Mathematics are reshaping the teaching and learning of mathematics in California classroom using the California Common Core States Standards for Mathematics(CA CCSSM). The aim of this study is to observe CA CCSSM. The CA CCSSM were established to address the problem of having a curriculum that is 'a mile wide and an inch deep'. And it have two types of standards. One is standards for mathematical practice which are the same at each grade level, the other is standards for mathematical content which are different at each grade level. This study focused on standards for mathematical content, in particular, on Geometry domain in elementary level, using Mathematics Framework for California Public Schools.
The study presented in this paper, which serves as a pilot study for a future comprehensive project, was to investigate how students deal with the concepts of infinity and limit. Based on the communicational approach to cognition, according to which mathematics is a kind of discourse, we tried to identify the characteristics of students' discourse on the topics. Four American and four Korean students were interviewed in English on limits and infinity and their discourse was scrutinized with an eye to common characteristics as well as culture, age, and education-related differences.
According to the TIMSS and PISA, Korean students proved to score one of the best group among the participated countries on the cognitive area of school mathematics. As an attempt to find out the Korean students' trends of mathematics learning, we compared Korean and American 10th graders' mathematics test result. It was proved that Korean students were especially well equipped in retaining basic fact and formulas.

The purpose of this study is to derive implications of preservice mathematics teacher education in Korea by analyzing the case of edTPA used in the preservice teacher training process in the United States. Recently, there has been a growing interest in promoting professional competencies considering not only the cognitive dimension related to knowledge development of preservice mathematics teachers but also the situational dimension considering reality in the classroom. The edTPA in the United States is a performance-based assessment based on lessons conducted by preservice teachers at school. This study analyzes the professional competencies required of preservice mathematics teachers by analyzing handbooks that described the case of edTPA in which preservice mathematics teachers in the United States participate. The edTPA includes planning, instruction, and assessment tasks, and continuous tasks are performed in connection with classes. Thus, the analysis is conducted on the points of linkage between the description of evaluation items and criteria in the planning, instruction, and assessment tasks, as well as the professional competencies required from that linkage. As a result of analyzing the edTPA handbooks, the professional competencies required of preservice mathematics teachers in the edTPA assessment were the competency to focus on and implement specific mathematics lessons, the competency to reflectively understand the implementation and assessment of specific mathematics lessons, and the competency to make a progressive determination of students' achievement related to their learning and their uses of language and representations. The results of this analysis can be used as constructs for competencies that can be assessed in the preservice in the organization of the preservice mathematics teacher curriculum and practice training semester system in Korea.

The Korean national curriculum will be revised in 2015. Before revisions are to be made, we must discuss the direction the curriculum changes will take. In this study, we compare the contents of the current 2011 elementary school mathematics curriculum in Korea with the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics (CCSSM) in the United States. The results from this comparative analysis may be helpful in the revision of the Korean mathematical curriculum. We find that the CCSSM introduces certain mathematical concepts earlier and in greater detail than the Korean curriculum does. The CCSSM also covers a broader range of mathematical concepts. These results indicate that the Korean curriculum needs to emphasize conceptual understanding, as well as procedural skill and fluency, in the early grades. Moreover, the 'grade band' is unnecessary in the mathematics curriculum. The Korean curriculum revision process must be debated more intensely, must be made public, and must take into consideration the key points of CCSSM.
This study intends to provide implications about sluggish use of calculators in our case by analyzing the math textbook of U.S. Macmillan/McGraw-Hill along with the tendency of paying more attention to math class using technologies. From the results of analysis, this textbook deals with various methods over around 3.3% of all pages, using calculators across all grades from 1st to 6th grade. In particular, it offers guidance into three types such as 'Choose a Computation Method', 'You can also use a calculator.', and 'TECHNOLOGY LINK', while particularly it is impressive in the perspective of using calculators as one of calculation strategies. And case studies of usage in textbooks describe 8 different perspectives as an example-represent; solve problems or equations; develope or demonstrate conceptual understanding; analyze; compute or estimate; describe, explain or justify; choose appropriate calculation method; determine a calculated answer's reasonableness. Reflecting on the fact that we still use calculators in a passive way, there are considerable implications to us.
This Paper reports results of investigating the relationship between students' perfoonance and mathematics imtructiooal system in understanding of the function concept. A written examination measuring calcullli students' understanding of the fimction concept was administered to two groups of students whose educatiooal oockground were different. One group consists of students who completed a pre-calculus course in Korea and the other group completed the same course in the United States. This study investigates how students in two groups acquire an understanding of major aspects of the function concept and provided interesting insights regarding the different background and belief related to their performance. Follow-up interviews were conducted to identify possible explanations for the different performance of the two groups in understanding the function concepts. Results indicate that the differences came from the educational environment and individual belief.
