Characteristics of Oceanographic Environment in a Building with a Sea Area for the Artificial Upwelling Structure. (인공용승구조물 설치해역의 해양환경 특성)

  • To investigated the variation of marine environments due to set up of artificial structure, we carried out field observations. High temperature and salinity waters were distributed clearly in the southeastern part of study area during summer season. The variation of current structure was also occurred around study area where artificial structure set up. In 2005 after set up of artificial structure, the nutrient concentration increased greater than that in 2002 before set up artificial structures. To illustrate the characteristics of marine environment due to set up of artificial structure, quantitative analyses on the effect of artificial structure are important.

  • Environmental sculpture is not just a decoration for architecture. It is a work of art with public interest and one of the best ways to improve street landscape design. Place of installation is very important for environmental sculpture, because it has close relationship with its surroundings and regional context. Field survey was performed on Teheran-Street, between Samsung station and Yeoksam station, central business district of Kang-Nam where lots of major buildings are located. All the 28 environmental sculptures facing Teheran-Street were examined. Relationship between environmental sculpture and street landscape design was investigated by three different points of view, relationship with architecture, intimacy with pedestrian, and space defined by the environmental sculpture. Environmental sculpture needs its own space and appropriate place to have beneficial influence on the sense of place. Environmental sculpture is important factor to control the quality of street landscape design. We should have macroscopic approach to determine place of installation, method and material of Environmental sculpture.

  • 「물환경보전법」은 2007년의 「수질 및 수생태계 보전에 관한 법률」에서 개정된 법률로 그 목적이 수질과 수생태계로 국한되어 왔다. 하지만 통합물관리 도입으로 인하여 제정된 「물관리기본법」에서는 "국가와 지방자치단체가 물과 관련된 정책을 수립, 시행할 때에는 물순환 과정의 전주기를 고려하여야 한다"고 명시되어 있으며 「물환경보전법」의 물순환관리지표는 수량이 제외되어 물순환 왜곡으로 인한 문제점이 충분히 포함되지 않은 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 국민들의 안전을 도모하기 위하여 물순환관리지표에 도시유역의 물순환 왜곡으로 인한 수재해 현황을 추가적으로 고려하고자 한다. 수재해 현황은 행정안전부의 자연재해로 인한 최근 10년간 인명피해와 피해액 조사를 바탕으로 가장 심각한 피해를 불러일으킨 폭염과 태풍 및 호우를 고려대상으로 선정하였다. 그 중 도시유역에서의 폭염피해란 불투수면적률이 증가함에 따라 증발산량이 감소하며 발생하는 도심의 열섬현상과 깊은 관계가 있고, 태풍 및 호우피해는 첨두유량의 증가와 도시배수의 연결성에 의하여 발생하는 침수와 깊은 관계가 있기에 이를 본 연구에서의 수량의 대표인자로 결정하였다. 수계 단위의 물순환관리지표와 행정구역 단위의 수재해 현황을 공간적으로 비교하기 위해 면적가중평균법을 이용하여 물순환율과 불투수면적률을 행정구역별로 재척도화를 하였다. 그리고 고려할 요소를 판단하기 위해 행정구역 별 물순환관리지표와 열섬현상, 도시침수를 측정하는 지표의 순위를 매겨 등위상관계수를 계산하였다. 도시침수와 열섬현상을 대표하는 지표 중 물순환율과 상관계수가 낮은 지표부터 물순환관리지표에 포함시켜야 할 요소라고 판단하였으며, 이를 바탕으로 보다 개선된 물순환관리지표를 제안하였다. 기후변화에 따라 현재 수재해 위험성이 더욱 커지고 그의 패턴도 달라지고 있기에 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 물순환관리지표가 좀 더 국민들에게 실효성이 있는 평가지표로 개선되기를 기대한다.

  • 2022년 수질과 수생태 등 쾌적한 물환경을 요구하는 국민들의 요구를 충족시키기 위해 댐 건설 및 주변지역지원 등에 관한 법률이 개정됨에 따라 댐관리청이나 댐수탁관리자가 댐의 수질을 개선하기 위한 물환경 관리사업을 시행할 수 있게 되었다. 그러나 댐상류의 물환경개선사업은 정부재정이나 댐수탁관리자의 재원이 투입되는 사업으로 지속가능한 사업의 추진을 위해서는 사업의 타당성을 확보하는 것이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 댐상류 수질개선사업의 편익효과를 식별하고 계량화하여 제시하였으며 각 수계별로 댐상류 물환경개선사업의 효과를 분석하여 비교, 제시하였다. 본 연구결과는 향후 댐상류 물환경개선사업의 사업타당성 및 국민적 공감대형성에 기초자료로 활용될 수 있다.

Pollution Assessment of Sediment in Lakes of Buk-han River Basin (북한강 수계 호소퇴적물 오염도 평가)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the pollution assessment of organic matters, nutrients, and metals in sediment in major lakes (5 lakes and 17 sites) of Buk-han river using various sediment pollution assessment guidelines and indices. The concentrations of organic matters and nutrients were lower than class IV (Sediment pollution assessment guidelines of Korea) and Severe Effect Level (SEL, Sediment pollution assessment guidelines of Ontario). This results indicated that the lakes sediments were unpolluted and tolerable level for sediment dwelling organisms by organic matters and nutrients. However, several sites of Chuncheon and Soyang lakes were evaluated "heavily polluted" level by organic index (Org-index). The order of lakes by metals concentrations from the one with the highest concentration was Hwacheon, Chuncheon, Cheongpyeong, Uiam, Soyang. All lakes except Hwacheon were assessed unpolluted to marginally and tolerable level for sediment dwelling organisms by metals based on sediment pollution assessment guidelines (Korean and Ontario), indices of geoaccumulation ($I_{geo}$), pollution loading (PLI) and ecological risk (RI). In Lake Hwacheon, every investigated sites were polluted with metals, especially Hg, based on sediment pollution assessment guideline of Korea and indices ($I_{geo}$, PLI and RI). The dwelling organisms in sediment of Hwacheon Lake were likely to be severed by metals.

Changes in the Water Environment Based on the Statistical Data in the Lake Paldang (통계로 보는 팔당호 물환경 변화)

  • Since the 1970s regulations against the pollution of drinking water have been introduced in Lake Paldang watershed area. To understand the effects of water environment management policies and the impacts of climate changes on Lake Paldang, a long-term comprehensive study of this watershed and the changes in its water environment is required. In this study, we analyzed changes in the weather, hydrology, sources of pollution, water quality, and algal development from 2000 to 2015 year based on the statistical data provided by several national information systems. While the population and amount of sewage in the Lake Paldang watershed increased by about 1.5 times, the amount of animal manure showed a decreasing trend during the same period. The wastewater also increased by about 1.5 times while the amount of water intakes rose by about 1.14 times. The water quality in front of the Paldang Dam, which is the representative monitoring site of the Lake Paldang, was stable. The annual average BOD concentration remained within 2 mg/L, which is a "Good (lb)" level according to the environment standards of Republic of Korea. The development of phytoplankton and harmful cyanobacteria were largely influenced by meteorological factors.

High School Students' Environmental Science Literacy for Water and Attitudes toward Environment (물에 관한 고등학생들의 환경 과학적 소양과 태도)

  • The present study aimed to understand high school students' environmental literacy for water and their attitudes toward environment. This study was conducted during the spring of the 2010 academic year with the participation of 123 students from a public international high school located in Seoul. The Environmental Science Literacy for Water test and the Revised New Ecological Paradigm scale were administered, and the data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and content analysis. The high school students in this study put strong emphasis on encouraging others to conserve water resources. This belief, however, was not aligned with self-recognition of their own roles in water supply shortages and other problematic water-use behavior. They also had difficulties in understanding the invisible part of matter transformations in water systems. Nevertheless, they showed favorable attitudes toward environmental conservation. In conclusion, the researchers suggest recognizing our own water problems and narrowing the gap between environmental and scientific knowledge of water and actual attitudes about the environment through curricular incorporation of interdisciplinary environmental science literacy into school science.

Understanding the coevolution of humans and water environment in the Han River Basin (한강유역의 인간과 물환경의 공진화 이해)

  • 인간과 인간활동은 물환경시스템의 외생변수가 아닌 내생변수(endogenous variable)이기에, 향후의 물환경관리는 인간과 물환경의 공진화(coevolution)에 대한 이해가 필요하다. 인간과 물환경의 공진화는 인간활동에 따른 정책의 변화, 자연재해, 그리고 결과적 현상으로서의 수질 변화 등과 같은 사회시스템과 수문(또는 물환경)시스템의 상호작용으로 발생한다. 수질과 대중의 물환경에 대한 인식 변화는 각각 물환경시스템과 사회시스템의 변화과정을 대변하는 주요 요인 중 하나이다. 따라서 인간과 물환경의 공진화를 이해하기 위하여 수질과 인식 변화에 대한 해석이 선행되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 수질측정망 자료를 활용하여 한강유역 주요지점에 대한 수질인자(BOD, COD, T-N, T-P 등)의 변화를 분석(1997~2020년)하고, 신문기사를 활용하여 물환경에 대한 대중의 장기적인 인식 변화(1960~2020년)를 해석하였다. 또한, 지난 61년 동안(1960~2020년) 수질과 대중의 인식 변화, 그리고 주요 물환경 정책 변화가 어떤 상호작용을 통해 공진화해 왔는지 검토하였다.
