Interpretation of Physical Weathering and Deterioration Mechanism for Thermal Altered Pelitic Rocks: Ulju Cheonjeon-ri Petroglyph (열변질 이질암의 물리적 풍화작용과 손상메커니즘 해석: 울주 천전리 각석)

  • Host rock of Cheonjeon-ri petroglyph is shale belonging to the Daegu Formation of Cretaceous Gyeongsang Supergroup. The rocks were hornfelsified by thermal alteration, and shows high density and hardness. The petroglyph forms weathered zone with certain depth, and has difference in mineral and chemical composition from the unweathered zone. As the physical deterioration evaluations, most of cracks on the surface appear parallel to the bedding, and are concentrated in the upper part with relatively low density. Breakout parts are occurred in the upper and lower parts of the petroglyph, accounting for 6.0% of the total area and occurs to have been created by the wedging action of cracks crossing. The first exfoliation parts occupying the surface were 23.8% of the total area, the second exfoliations covered with 9.3%, and the exfoliation parts with three or more times were calculated as 3.4%. It is interpreted that this is not due to natural weathering, and the thermal shock caused by the cremation custom here in the past. As the ultrasonic properties, the petroglyph indicates highly strength in the horizontal direction parallel to bedding, and the area with little physical damage recorded mean of 4,684 m/s, but the area with severe cracks and exfoliations showed difference from 2,597 to 3,382 m/s on average. Physical deterioration to the Cheonjeon-ri petroglyph occurred to influence by repeated weathering, which caused the rock surface to become more severe than the inside and the binding force of minerals to weaken. Therefore, it can be understood that when greater stress occurs in the weathered zone than in the unweathered zone, the relatively weathered surface loses its support and exfoliation occurs.

  • One of the most challenging issues facing shallow seismic survey is how to generate large amplitude of high frequency signal with small seismic sources. We tested the performance of the most commonly used shallow seismic source, hammer, with four plates: PE, nylon, aluminum, and steel plates. We compared their signal powers in terms of impulsive forces, accelerations, and ground vibration velocities caused by hammer impacts. According to a previous work, hammer blowing to an aluminum plate would generate the largest amplitude among four combinations. However, it was found in this experimental research that aluminum plate delivers seismic wave energy to the ground less than that generated with steel or PE plate. Even though the amplitude is relatively small, plastic plates could provide seismic pulses of 180 ~ 200 Hz in the bandwidth, and it seems to be very hard to generate seismic energy over the frequency of 250 Hz.

  • This paper aims to draw practical measures for the Protection of the Rights of the private security guards. The results of the analysis, and presents the legal definition if need be introduced for the protection of private security guards right, are as follows. First, it must be established in Private Security Act the basic provisions that assure the economic status of the private security guards. Secondly, there is a need to clearly define the scope of authority of private security guards. Third, there is a need to clarify the scope of physical force or power in the regulations relating to the duty of the private security guards. This provision during the "displayed its power", there is a possibility that is too arbitrary interpretation, it must be deleted. Fourth, it must be established by weighting penalties for assault of a private security guards. Finally, Private Security Act and the Petition Police Act has a difference in personality and the purpose of the enactment. So it is not desirable to be directly applied to private security guards the provisions that apply to the petition police.

Physical and Sensory Characteristics of Pork from Korean Native Black Pig and Crossbred Black Pig Reared in Jeju Island (제주도에서 사육한 재래 및 개량 흑돼지 고기의 물리적, 관능적 품질 특성)

  • The objective of this study was to compare the physical and sensory characteristics of pork from Korean native black pigs ($78{\pm}7kg$, female) to the pork of crossbred black pigs ($115{\pm}5kg$, female), both of which were reared for the same period on Jeju Island. The Korean native black pig showed a lower $L^*$ value (lightness) and higher $a^*$-(redness) and $b^*$-values (yellowness) than the crossbred black pig. There were no statistically meaningful differences between the two pigs' loins, hams and bellies of the two breeds of pig in terms of water holding capacity, thawing loss, cooking loss, myofibrillar protein extract, and fragmentation index. The crossbred black pigs showed greater significant differences among the physical characteristics of each part, as compared to the Korean native black pigs. The cooked meat of the Korean native black pig had superior hardness to that of the crossbred black pig, whereas the raw meat had a lower hardness, chewiness, and shear force value. Finally, there was no significant difference between the two pigs in terms of palatability.

  • 2011년 동일본 지역에서 발생한 지진으로 인하여 후쿠시마 다이이치에 위치한 원자력 발전소에서 다양한 방사성 물질들이 바다, 하천 그리고 대기와 같은 자연환경 속으로 유출되었다. 방사성 세슘(Cesuim, $Cs^{137}$)은 다양한 방사성 물질들 가운데 반감기(Half-life)가 30.17년으로 가장 긴 물질이다. 방사성 세슘이 환경 생태계로 한번 유출될 경우 긴 반감기과 널리 퍼지는 성질로 인하여 오랜 시간동안 넓은 지역에 막심한 피해를 초래하므로 효과적인 처리방법을 통해 안전하게 처리하는 것이 아주 중요하다. 세슘을 제거하기 위하여 물리적, 화학적, 생물학적 등 다양한 방법들을 통해 연구를 진행하고 있으며, 특히 세슘을 제거하는 아주 효과적인 방법 중 하나인 프러시안 블루(Prussian Blue, PB) 흡착제를 적용하는 방법이 많이 주목받고 있다. 그러나 프러시안 블루는 미세한 분말입자로서 수처리에 사용하게 되면 처리 후 발생되는 슬러지들을 수중으로 부터 분리하기 어려운 한계점을 가지고 있다. 최근 연구에서는 프러시안 블루의 적용 한계점를 극복하기 위하여 자성체(Magnetic substance)를 물리적 지지체로 이용하여 외부 자기장을 통해 수중으로 분리하는 방법들이 연구되고 있다. 자성체란 외부 자기장이 주어지게 되면 입자들 표면에 자성력을 띄는 물질들을 말한다. 본 연구에서는 자성체 종류들 가운데 가장 높은 자성력을 지닌 강자성체(Ferromagnetic Substance)를 물리적 지지체로 하여 산화과정, 실란과정, 합성과정을 거쳐 강자성체 입자의 표면에 프러시안 블루를 합성한 새로운 형태에 합성체를 제조하고, 제조된 합성체를 이용하여 수중에 존재하는 세슘 제거 능력을 평가하였다. 제조된 합성체의 물리적 특성을 분석하기 위하여 SEM, XRD를 이용하여 합성체 입자의 표면 분석을 진행하였다. 합성체의 세슘 제거 능력을 평가하기 위하여 임의 제조된 0.5mg/L의 세슘 농도를 가진 원수 100ml에 제조된 새로운 형태의 합성체 1g을 투입한 뒤 1분간의 반응시간 동안 반응한 이후 잔류 세슘을 측정한 결과 수중의 존재하는 세슘에 대해 99.9%의 세슘 제거율을 기록하였다. 자가분리(Magnetic Seperate)의 원리를 이용하여 수중으로부터 회수율을 측정한 결과, 99%의 합성체 회수율을 얻었다. 실험결과를 통해 외부자기장이 주어지게 되면 수중으로부터 합성체를 대부분 분리하여 회수할 수 있다고 판단된다. 본 연구를 통해 개발된 새로운 형태의 합성체는 수중의 세슘 처리 공정에서 사용자가 직접 접촉하지 않고 세슘제거 및 외부자기장을 통해 수중으로부터 분리가 가능한 합성체라고 판단된다.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate science high-school students' creativity and scientific attitude when an integrated science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) project themed 'lighting of quantum dot solution' was applied to them. The subjects were a one team composed of 3 students in the 11th grade desiring to participate in the Korea Science Exhibition. They began with a scientific inquiry related to the physical properties of the QD solution and then gradually showed the process of expansion of their ideas into the integration of engineering, technology, and mathematics. Also, during the process, they showed problem solving ability and scientific attitudes, such as cooperation, endurance, and satisfaction of accomplishment.

Physical knowledge in children: Children's developing understanding of object motion (아동의 물리지식: 물체의 운동에 대한 아동의 이해와 발달)

  • This study was carried out to examine the development of physical knowledge in children. Eighty children aged 3- to 11-year-old and 16 adults were participated in this study. Participants' knowledge about failing, sliding and sinking/floating objects was investigated to understand what kind of knowledge they had, whether their knowledge was organized as theory and what was the nature of the developmental change in physical knowledge. Results showed that, for falling object task children of all age had correct knowledge about object's falling phenomena. However, there were age differences in children's understanding of the cause of object's falling. As the children's age decreased, the frequency of explanation referring to the absence of supper rather than the gravity as the cause of falling phenomena increased. For the sliding object task, children of all age could predict the motion of sliding object correctly. But only a few 9- and 11-year-old children could understand the effect of object weight and relations between gravity, frictional force and their interactions. Children under age 7 showed no evidence of possessing these knowledge. For sinking or floating object task, children of all age and even adults showed difficulties in understanding the sinking or float phenomena per se. For the cause of these phenomena although a few 9- and 11-year-old children referred to buoyancy as the cause, they had no correct knowledge about the buoyancy. This was also true for the adults. As a conclusion, the results of this study suggested that, not 3, but as young as 5-year-old children's physical knowledge exited as a form of naive theory in terms of their use as a causal devise in explaining the cause of object motion. However, even the theory of 9- and 11-year-old children was lack of the abstractness and coherence, which were also important characteristics of a theory. Finally, developmental change in physical knowledge proceeded toward more frequent and consistent use of physical knowledge as causal device and more abstract and coherently organized theory.

The effect of attention on spinal health of adolescents: The mediating effect of smartphone overindulgence moderated by cognitive strength (청소년의 집중력이 척추건강에 미치는 영향: 인지강도에 의해 조절된 스마트폰 과몰입의 매개효과)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to find out the mediated effects of smartphone overindulgence in the relationship between attention and spinal health of adolescents and to find out how cognitive strength moderates these relationships. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: All subjects measured attention, cognition strength, spinal angle, and smartphone overindulgence by measuring the ratio of SMR and mid-beta power to the power of the brain wave, amplitude variation of Cognitive Gamma-Peak, forward slope angle of the cervical spine, and the scale of diagnosis of smartphone addiction. Results: As a result, it shows a significant correlation between Attention, spinal angle, cognitive strength, and smartphone overindulgence(p<.05). In addition, attention was significantly mediated on the spinal angle through smartphone overindulgence(p<.001), and cognitive strength was significantly mediated in relation to smartphone overindulgence and spinal angle(p<.05). Conclusion: This result indicates that the mediation effect of overindulgence of a Smartphone is mediated according to its cognitive strength in relation to its effect of attention on the spine angle.

Measurement of Shear Contact Characteristics on Mechanical Joints (기계 조인트의 전단 컨택 특성 측정)

  • An experimental method based on contact resonance is developed to extract the contact parameters of mechanical joints under various clamped conditions. Mechanical joint parameters of shear contact stiffness and damping were extracted for different physical joint parameters such as surface finish of the mating surfaces, the presence of lubrication, the effect of the clamping pressure, and shear load. It was found that the shear contact stiffness values decreased with increasing clamping load and increased with increasing shear loading. Contact damping ratio values were almost constant with clamping load, but decreased with increasing shear load. Moreover, rough surfaces exhibited the highest shear stiffness and contact damping compared to smooth surfaces.

Incubation Conditions and Physico-Chemical Factors Affecting Aflatoxin B1 Binding of Lactic Acid Bacteria (Aflatoxin B1에 대한 유산균의 결합력에 영향을 미치는 배양조건과 물리화학적 인자)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the aflatoxin $B_1$ binding of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) isolated from Korean traditional soybean paste and to evaluate the effect of incubation conditions and physico-chemical factors on the binding ability of LAB to this mutagen. The amount of aflatoxin $B_1$ bound by Enterococcus faecium DJ22, Lactobacillus fermentum DJ35, Lactobacillus rhamnosus DJ42, and Lactobacillus pentosus DJ47 was strain specific with the percent bound ranging from 19.3% to 52.1%. However, Enterococcus faecalis DJ14, Lactobacillus panis DJ29, and Pediococcus halophilus DJ50 strains did not exhibit any of the binding ability to aflatoxin $B_1$. For most strains, the binding ability was significantly affected by the environmental conditions such as the aflatoxin $B_1$ level, incubation time and temperature, and the initial cell count of LAB. The stability of the aflatoxin $B_1$-bacteria complexes was significantly more unstable after washing. In addition, the binding stability between viable and nonviable cells was not statistically significant. Treatment with heating, acidic pH, ${\alpha}$-amylase, protease, lysozyme, or sodium metaperiodate caused a significant (P<0.05) decrease in aflatoxin $B_1$ binding for the tested strains, suggesting that carbohydrates or proteins in the cell walls may be involved in aflatoxin $B_1$ binding ability. Since the aflatoxin $B_1$ binding of LAB was significantly reduced (P<0.05) by the pretreatment of the urea, the binding force observed in this study may have resulted from hydrophobic interaction.
