In this article, I analyze Korean Dong-in culture and its relationship with Yaoi, focusing on the changes in the 1990s. While Korean Dong-in culture has developed under the influence of Japanese Dojin culture, it is not well-known that Korean Dong-in culture has its own characteristics, reflecting the unique situations surrounding the Korean society. The reason that I pay attention to the changes in the 1990s is that they have created the foundation of the current Korean dong-in culture through changes such as the import and reception of Yaoi, the creation of 'virtual community' in PC telecommunication, the enforcement of Juvenile Protection Law, and the inauguration of 'Comic World,' Among them, the import and reception of Yaoi, a genre characterized by homosexuality including sexual relationship and fanwork, played a decisive role in the change of dong-in culture from manwha circle by highly motivated amatuer artists to fandom. The circumstances that original manhwa dong-in by manwha circle and Yaoi by manhwa fandom coexisted by the mid-1990s, the enforcement of Juvenile Protection Law and the lift of ban on Japanese popular culture rapidly weakened original manhwa dong-in. Also, the popularity of Comic World as a new type of dong-in events reflected the spread of fanwork as a new trend of Korean dong-in. In summary, the import and reception of Yaoi should be considered as one of the important changes in the 1990s Korean Dong-in culture, because 1) Korean women considered Yaoi as a liberating subculture by its powerful contents-homosexuality with sexual relationship, and 2) Yaoi succeeded in attracting new population favoring fanwork as a major trend in Korean Dong-in, differentiated from original manhwa circle population.

The appreciation of cultural properties related with what the aspects of society was is mandatory to understand our culture correctly. To make over all cultural properties to our descendants without breakage or damage is our natural duty and national obligation. On the contrary, inhabitants in the preserved area should be restricted and controlled by the cultural property law. The conflict between the inhabitants in the preserved area and the government raises economical problems and damages all the time. Especially it is time to discuss to mediate between them and solve the problems. This feasible study is a proposal to settle them up through renovating abolished school in the preserve area to the museum and a case to preserve the cultual properties as well as habitant's assets in that area.

서구의 문헌 속에 감춰진 제국주의적 오만과 편견을 놀라울 만한 박식함으로 분석해낸 "오리엔탈리즘"의 저자 에드워드 사이드가 펴낸 "문화와 제국주의"는 그의 중심사상을 집약해 보인다는 점에서 중요한 의의를 갖는다. 그는 이 책에서 문화적 억압과 이념적 지배의 영역까지 파고들어간 제국주의 이데올로기의 헤게모니를 파악해야 한다고 말한다.

Culture is an indispensable element in modern society in improving the quality of life for city dwellers and stimulating the urbanization. The conspicuous emergence of cultural cities, which is a new paradigm, can be understood in that context. Global cities are pursuing cultural cities, and autonomous regions in Korea are also pushing ahead with the urbanization which combines cultural elements. Specifically, Nam-gu of Incheon has set an example of successful cultural city for other autonomous regions. The cultural environmental policy of Nam-gu is deemed to have retained the infrastructure, cultural urban landscape and living space, and a plenty of contents. The real significance of cultural city lies in the pursuit of sustainable urban development as a culture-friendly city. For that, the direction of cultural environmental city has to be firmly set, and related law and system should be strengthened. Above all, it is critical to pursue human-oriented cultural city by showing citizens what roles they have to play, setting the right direction, and improving the partnership.
