  • Titles have been regarded as having effective clustering features, but they sometimes fail to represent the topic of a document and result in poorly generated document clusters. This study aims to improve the performance of document clustering with titles by suggesting titles in the citation bibliography as a clustering feature. Titles of original literature, titles in the citation bibliography, and an aggregation of both titles were adapted to measure the performance of clustering. Each feature was combined with three hierarchical clustering methods, within group average linkage, complete linkage, and Ward's method in the clustering experiment. The best practice case of this experiment was clustering document with features from both titles by within-groups average method.

  • The objective of this study is to excavate the current critical issues and suggest the future direction of the Library and Information Sciences(LIS) education. To do so, this research conducted a thorough comparative study of LIS eduction in Korea, U.S.A., and Australia, and the extensive research of the iSchool(Information School) movement currently involving 33 universities all around the world started with the initiative in U.S.A. Specifically, the study investigated the changes and the essence of LIS education and research trends by reviewing and analyzing comparatively the prior domestic and overseas research. Then, it examined the current characteristics of the LIS curricula in Korea, U.S.A., and Australia and performed the inter-country analysis. Finally, the study concludes with suggestions of the future of the LIS education and research directions through an in-depth case research of the iSchool movement spreading out rapidly all over the world.

  • This study attempted to explore the characteristics of knowledge communication and investigate important research topics and key authors by analyzing major academic papers in the field of LIS in Korea for five years from 2018 to 2022. The research method collected and analyzed papers published for five years in four key journals in the field of domestic Library and Information Science from the Korean Citation Index (KCI) database. The paper was selected to extract the author data of the paper and the data of the reference, and network visualization was performed by conducting literature co-citation analysis and author co-citation analysis using Netminer. As a result of the analysis, it was possible to derive a pair of co-citations between authors, and it was confirmed that it is important to include multiple authors in the intellectual structure analysis in the academic field through co-citation frequency analysis among researchers. The literature confirmed the correlation between the topics of the paper, and it was found that research related to Library and Information Science was centered on the topics of library, digital, user, service, and data.

  • The purpose of this study is to verify if there is any difference on researchers' language preference for citing documents in different subject fields. 8 scientific journals were selected one of each from 8 main categories, given by National Research Foundation of Korea. Five variables including the rate of citing domestic and foreign documents for each journals were choose, and the differences on language preference among researchers of different subject fields were checked by implementing ANOVA. As a result, there are some differences on language preference, in terms of the average number and percentage of foreign documents, among researchers, based on their subject background. It also found that 8 subject categories divided into 4 small clusters.

  • Grey literature is a non-Public data only for nonprofit users. Some of the major grey literatures are technical report, Proceeding, and thesis. For their Promptitude, these sources are core of research and development. According to a research on the academic qualify. grey literatures have higher usage rates than books-articles excluded. Also, the usage of foreign grey literature by librarians of research organization was investigated. The result was that over 90 percent of the researchers were demanding the original text of the foreign grey literature. In addition, librarians pointed out that the time-consuming problem and the lack of published information was a hindrance to using grey literature. For the centralized management of grey literature. they wanted an alliance structure.

  • This study was conducted to raise awareness of careers in the Department of Library and Information Science (LIS) as well as to investigate current awareness and preferences for LIS Department as a strategy to cope with the rapidly changing university environment. To do this, a survey of high school students was carried out, with results as follows: First, awareness about the LIS Department and awareness about librarians in our country's high school students was very low. Second, for possible careers in LIS Department, students responded that a graduate of LIS department was likely to enter the workplace in public libraries, state libraries, university libraries, or school libraries, but they would like to work at broadcasting library, national libraries, school libraries, university libraries, public libraries, or portals. Third, awareness of the career path for the LIS Department showed a very large impact on a preference for the LIS Department. Therefore, students who have heard about the LIS Department are highly probable to select this department when they reach university.

  • The purpose of this study is to give a challenge LIS field and serve a starting point for the discussion on iSchool. To achieve the study purpose, this study conducted in-depth interview with LIS scholars. Qualitative method was utilized to analyze the interview data. According to the study results, current curriculum reorganization is required for the success of Korean iSchool. In addition, the followings are the expected effects of iSchool: 1)increased possibility of interdisciplinary research and education, 2)expansion of LIS identity, and 3)creation of a new image of LIS. However, there was anxiety about losing LIS's unique identity as an librarian education institute.

  • This study suggests that the model of electronic document delivery service be carried out by academic libraries step by step, based on the analysis of the domestic and foreign status. The model consists of the user's request step, electronic document building step, electronic document transferring step. Academic libraries should perform the electronic document delivery service step by step that satisfies user's information need.
