  • In this study, we aimed to identify the types of acknowledgments in Korean LIS journal articles and to find out whether there are differences in the bibliometric characteristics of journal articles based on the types of acknowledgments. For the analysis, the acknowledgments, references, and citation counts of 2,143 articles published in four representative journals in the field of library and information science in Korea for nine years from 2013 to 2021 were obtained as data. We analyzed the contents of 1,433 acknowledgments in 1,311 articles (61.2% of all articles) to divide them into types and then examined the bibliometric characteristics of each type of article. The acknowledgment types were broadly divided into the 'ethics' type (avoiding duplicate publication) and 'thanks' type, which were further subdivided into 9 and 10 types, respectively. We examined the number of references, recency of references, and citations as bibliometric characteristics, and found that all of these characteristics differed between the types of acknowledgements.

  • The major concern of scholarly communication system that consists of libraries, researchers, and publishers is scholarly journals. But there is a huge chasm between the groups that have their own respects and strategies, compensations, and rights about scholarly journals. This difference makes open access movement which has two strategies: Open Access Journal(OAJ) and Open Access Archives (OAA). This paper describes the current status and analyses serious limitations of OAJ and OAA, especially, including the present address in the field of library and information science.

  • This study attempted to explore the characteristics of knowledge communication and investigate important research topics and key authors by analyzing major academic papers in the field of LIS in Korea for five years from 2018 to 2022. The research method collected and analyzed papers published for five years in four key journals in the field of domestic Library and Information Science from the Korean Citation Index (KCI) database. The paper was selected to extract the author data of the paper and the data of the reference, and network visualization was performed by conducting literature co-citation analysis and author co-citation analysis using Netminer. As a result of the analysis, it was possible to derive a pair of co-citations between authors, and it was confirmed that it is important to include multiple authors in the intellectual structure analysis in the academic field through co-citation frequency analysis among researchers. The literature confirmed the correlation between the topics of the paper, and it was found that research related to Library and Information Science was centered on the topics of library, digital, user, service, and data.

  • The study investigated the intellectual structure of the library and information science field by journal co-citation analysis on thirty LIS journals with high journal impact factors. Patterns of journal-to-journal citation show the structure of journals in the field, visualized by a networked map of the journals. The result shows journals that can be considered as the core group and as the peripheral group, which corresponds to other studies for investigating the field's intellectual structure using other techniques, such as cluster analysis and multidimensional scaling.

  • As collaboration of research is increasing in social science, this study aims to investigate the changes in patterns of research collaboration in the field of library and information science, over the years from 2002 to 2020. The data used for this study were collected from four major journals in the field to analyze the frequency of co-authored research articles by journals and by institutions that all authors were associated with. Also, the institutions data were used to build a co-authorship network, which produced various indices including TBC (Triangle Betweenness Centrality) that showed which institutions were more central than others in the network. The result shows the number of co-authored articles were constantly increasing in all journals, and some institutions, mostly universities, showed the higher centrality scores than others and the range of collaboration were also expanded.

  • The purpose of this research was to investigate the characteristics of library and information science (LIS) field in Asian countries, focusing on the case of Taiwan. In order to conduct this study, the obtained statistical data and co-authorship networks based on eight major LIS journals in Taiwan were analyzed and compared to the case of South Korea. In Taiwan like Korea, papers published by a single-author and 2 to 3 co-authors were the most common. The centrality analysis showed that leading professors in the national-level university in Taiwan have strong and distinctive ties in the network. Additional unique characteristics pertaining to collaboration in Taiwan include the existence of journals focused on practical aspects in the field of LIS and active research participation involving librarians who publish papers in these journals.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the structure and pattern of conclusions chapters in research articles selected in four representative journals published in Korean LIS. To analyse the structure and pattern five categories and eleven elements drawn from RA conclusions were used such as 'Drawing Attention', 'Summarizing', 'Discussing', 'Applying' and 'Extending'. The Findings are as follows. 'Conclusions' was the most used title of the chapter, and then 'conclusions and suggestions'. The conclusions sections were consisted averagely 4.2 elements. 'Summary of findings' was the most frequently elements, followed by 'summary of research process', 'suggestion of further research' and 'implication'. Also, 'summary of findings' was the most used in lengths. 'Summarizing' was the highest frequency in five categories, followed by 'Extending', and 'Applying'. The dominant first element begun conclusions sections was 'summary of findings' and the final element closed conclusion was 'suggestion of further research'. 'Summary of research process - summary of findings' order was found in the most frequent pattern of conclusions. 'Summary of findings' and 'summary of research processes' in 'Summarizing' were found as essential functions, while other elements, such as significance, 'application', 'limitations' in 'Applying' and 'Extending' were found as optional functions in the conclusions of Korean LIS research articles.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the research trend of Library and Information Science field in Korea using science and technology authority data which has been constructed by KISTI. The authority data is a set of data given a unique identifier to identify a unique object for the authors, affiliations and journals of domestic and international academic paper that published in Korea or written by Korean authors. We examined collaborating patterns, authors and institutional productivity through analyzing the 5 domestic LIS journals published from 1997 to 2013.
