This study was conducted to establish standard fresh weight data about the minimum amount of occurred weeds at untreated paddy fields, upland fields and orchard fields (including non-cultivated land) in 10 areas. The amount of occurred weeds in each area was compared fresh weight with dry weight. The average percentage for ratio of dry weight to fresh weight in paddy fields was concluded to be 14.8% of Echinochola crus-galli, 12.5% of annual weeds (including Echinochola crus-galli), and 13.9% of perennial weeds. The average percentage for ratio of dry weight to fresh weight in upland fields was concluded to be 20.1% of annual weeds and in orchard fields was concluded to be 18.4% of annual and perennial weeds. According to the research, standard fresh weight about the minimum amount of occurred weeds at untreated paddy fields was proposed to $210g\;m^{-2}$ of Echinochola crus-galli, $400g\;m^{-2}$ of annual weeds (including Echinochola crus-galli), and $220g\;m^{-2}$ of perennial weeds. Standard fresh weight about the minimum amount of occurred weeds at untreated upland fields was proposed to $250g\;m^{-2}$ of annual weeds and at untreated orchard fields was proposed to $550g\;m^{-2}$ of annual and perennial weeds.

To establish weed control method in no-tilled and rice straw-covered wheat sown coincidentally with rice harvest using combine-attached drill seeder, several herbicides and their combination were tested for 2 years. Similar number of panicle to hand-weeding plot was secured at sprayed plot with Buta EC + Glyphosate SL mixture just after seeding. Water-foxtail(Alopeculus aequalis) and broadleaf weeds were controlled effectively by Buta EC + Glyphosate SL mixture, showing the control efficacy of 92 percent. In the 1st cropping year, weed species occurred was simple and water-foxtail predominated nearly half. However, weed species was diversified and water-foxtail predominated 83.5 percent in the 2nd cropping year. Wheat yield of Buta EC + Glyphosate SL plot showed no difference with hand-weeding plot. Dry weight of water-foxtail showed closer linear relationship with wheat yield reduction than that of broadleaf weed.
Rice production depended on the weed control. The purpose of this study was conducted to evaluate the influence of tillage with chemical amendments + 5 cm flooded, no-tillage without Chinese milk vetch + 5 cm flooded (NTNT 5 cm), no-tillage amended with Chinese milk vetch + 5 cm flooded (NTCM 5 cm), and no-tillage amended with Chinese milk vetch + 10 cm flooded (NTCM 10 cm) on weed occurrence and yield of rice in paddy. Triplicate experimental plots were laid out in a randomized complete block design and compared by employing least significant difference. The dry weights of weeds in NTCM 5 cm and NTCM 10 cm were 11% and 4% level of NTNT 5 cm (p<0.05) and were 3.2 times and 1.2 times more than in conventional tillage system. In addition, the Aneilema keisak and Ludwigia prostrata were significantly increased in NTNT 5 cm (p<0.05). The yield of rice grain in NTCM 10 cm was 2.6 times more than in NTNT 5 cm and was 89% level of conventional tillage system. Our findings suggest that NTCM 10 cm should be enhance of weed control as well as improving of yield of rice in paddy.
This experiment was carried out to establish effective weed control system in the cultivation of Coix lachryma-jobi L. The effect of annual weeds artificially transplanted on the growth of Coix lachryma-jobi L. were that the higher the density of weeds, the lower the yield considerably by reducing number of grains and tillers per plant. Among four weeds of Echinochloa crusgalli galli P. BEAUV., Digitaria sanguinalis $S_{COPOL}$., Chenopodium album L., and Portulaca oleracea L., weed of Portulaca oleracea L. reduced adlay yield most by 182.6kg/10a and it was judged to be the most injurious weed to adlay production. Among four weed control systems, which are one herbicide treatment, one herbicide treatment + one cultivating work with cultivator, two times cultivating work with cultivator and two times hand-weeding, the control system of 'one herbicide treatment + one cultivating work with cultivator' showed the lowest amount of weed growth by 7.34 weeds per $m^2$ in comparison with control plot of 35.00 weeds per $m^2$. Among four weed control systems, the system of 'two times hand-weeding' had much more amount of light penetration in adlay canopy with 791.9 mol than any other systems.
This study was conducted to evaluate the weed suppressing effects of two winter cover crops, hairy vetch and rye in foxtail millet and sorghum fields in 2010. Crop growth and development and weed occurrences in the fields were examined to know the efficiency of proposed cropping system. In hairy vetch treated plots, heading of minor cereals occurred early. The heading date was earlier by 1 day and 2 days in sorghum and foxtail millet, respectively. However, rye treatment delayed heading by 12 days and 8 days in sorghum and foxtail millet, respectively. Besides he effect of cover crop on ear emergence of crops, the Besides changed growth-related characteristics. Plant height, chlorophyll content and chlorophyll fluorescence of sorghum ere increased in hairy vetch treatment by 46.4% 88.7% and 7.9%, respectively. In foxtail millet, the characteristics ere also increased by 45.6%, 50.9% and 37.8%, respectively, s compared to control. Yields of sorghum and foxtail millet were increased by 105.1% and 135% as compared o control by hairy vetch treatment, respectively. However, he yields of cereal crops were decreased by rye cover crop treatment, the yields of sorghum and foxtail millet were decreased by 25.8% and 119.1%, respectively. Rye cover crop treatment inhibited crop growth suggesting nitrogen starvation in rye treated plots. In rye treatment, plant height, chlorophyll contents and chlorophyll fluorescence of sorghum ere slightly decreased by 7.1%, 10.8% and 10.8%, respectively, as compared to control whereas the inhibitory effects were greater in foxtail millet. Weed occurrences based n weed number in hairy vetch and rye plots were reduced n weed number in hairy vetch and rye plots were reduced y 27% and 20%, respectively. The smothering effect was weakened or disappeared after heading of crops. Weed number and dry weight in hairy vetch plot were increased by 159% and 55.2%, respectively, as compared to control. The results implied that weed suppressing of cover crops could be reduced drastically after heading of crops.

Introduction of rye living mulch in soybean production is important for labor-saving and reduction of herbicide usage for weeding by weed suppression and for soil conservation by mulching of rye. Soybean and rye were row-planted and broadcasted simultaneously at different planting times (May 15, May 25, June 5) and row widths (35 and 70 cm) in 2010, different soybean cultivars (Daepoong, Singi) and planting times (May 15 and June 1) in 2011, respectively, and investigated weed occurrence, early growth and yield of soybean. Acalypha australis, which is known to herbicide-resistant weed, could be controlled ecologically by rye living mulch. Occurrence of Acalypha australis was controlled effectively also by mixture of alachlor and linulon at no mulch in 2011. Early growth amount of soybean plant per area was increased by narrow row width (35 cm) at rye living mulch, which was helpful in the control of weeds, but grain yield of soybean with narrow row was decreased compared to conventional row width (70 cm) at the planting in early June. It is concluded that soybean planting as row width 70 cm in early June is proper at simultaneous planting with rye.
Requirements in weed control in a mulberry field are much similar to those in orchards, but also feature a longer period of weed control of various kinds of persistent weeds, i.e., spring, summer, and winter annuals as well as perennials. In addition the mulberry tree is relatively more sensitive to herbicide injury. Hence, very few herbicides have been used in mulberry field. The present study was conducted to evaluate the usefulness of oxyfluorfen in comparison with alachlor and simazine, which are registered for ordinary mulberry field in Korea, for weed control efficacy in the new, rapidly increasing practice of transparent polyethylene-film mulched and densely planted younger mulberry culture. Dominant spring weeds were Galium spp., Erigeron spp., Polygonum senticosum, and Chenopodium spp. in the non-mulched interbed area in contrast to the Digitaria spp. and Potulaca spp, under mulch. Dominant summer weeds were Digitaria spp., Portulaca spp., Erigeron spp., Artemisia spp. and Calystegia japonica in the non-mulched interbed area while weeds did not occur significantly during summer under mulch which were shaded by vigorously growing mulberry trees. The weeds occurred under mulch in spring reduced shoot growth of young mulberry tree resulting in the reduced yield of mulberry leaves for silkworms. The weeds occurred in the interbed area did not affect until May, but interfered later summer- and fall-growth of mulberry tree. Early single spring application of alachlor(EC), simazine(WP) or oxyfluorfen(EC) at a rate of 650 g, 750 g or 350 g ai per ha, respectively, controlled most annuals satisfactorily to fall in the mulched bed area. In the nonmulched interbed area, however, thrice does of alchlor or simazine was necessary for satisfactory control of spring weeds, followed by summer application of alachlor or simazine at twice dose level as tank mixture with paraquat at 490 g ai per ha for satisfactory control of summer to fall weeds. Single spring application of oxyfluorfen at a rate of 1400 g ai per ha was persistently effective to control satisfactorily even summer and fall weeds. However, heavy rainfall splashed soil borne oxyfluorfen to the lower branch leaves causing some leaf burns. Spring application of oxyfluorfen at a rate of 350 g ai per ha followed by summer application of oxyfluorfen and paraquat tank mixture (350 g ai + 490 g ai) was the best choice for the non-mulched interbed area weed control among the treatments.
The reseach was conducted to find out if there are any difference in growth, specific pattern in weed competition, and herbicide response of Korean lawngrass(Zoysia japonica Steud.) in a green house equipped with auto-foggy system. Plant height and leaf stage of Korean lowngrass under foggy condition were increased through all growing stages, whereas the number of tillers and shoot fresh weight harvested at 100 days after seeding were reduced by 24% and 29%, respectively, comparing with non-foggy condition. Weed emergence(total fresh weight) under foggy condition was much greater than that under non-foggy condition. Plant height, number of tillers, number of plant and shoot fresh weight of lawngrass under foggy condition were severely reduced with increasing the duration of competition(above 40 day-competition). Among the herbicides treated, oxyfluorfen completely inhibited plant height of lawngrass regardless of foggy condition, and bensulide considerably inhibited plant height of lawngrass under foggy condition. On the other hand, flazasulfuron did not affect the growth of lawngrass under both foggy and non-foggy conditions. At 40 days after herbicides application, weeding efficacy of bensulide and mecoprop under foggy condition were reduced by 6% and 13%, respectively, comparing with non-foggy condition.
This experiment was carried out to clarify the effect of herbicide chlormethoxynil 7G, CNP 9G and butachlor 3.5/pyrazolate 6G on weed control and seedling growth in rice seedbed. Different quantities of the herbicides were applied as soil incorporation or surface broadcasting. At earlier sowing annual grasses such as Echinochlva spp. and Alopecurus spp. were dominated, but Cyperus spp. were dominated at later sowing. Weed suppression by herbicides was greater in soil incorporation than in broadcasting and chlormethoxynil 7G and CNP 9G application (30kg/ha) showed about 70% weed control, while butachlor 3.5/pyrazolate 6G (10-20kg/ha) showed 90 to 100% weed control. At lower rate of butachlor 3.5/pyrazolate 6G (10kg/ha) emergence ratio, healthy seedling ratio and relative growth rate of rice were higher, and phytotoxicity was lower than in the others.
This study was conducted to clarify effects of weed control methods on damages from agricultural chemicals of pear trees, growth of weeds and states of pear trees after treating pear orchards with different methods of weed controlling, density of GLU and application times. The growth and occupation rate were investigated after 10, 20 and 40 days of weeding treatment. According to a result of the first treatment conducted when weeds in the lower parts of crown in a pear orchard began to grow and grew about 20 cm, unwoven cloth covering showed the highest control value with 100% in all 14 kinds of grasses. In comparison, Stellaria aquatica and catchweed bedstraw showed 96.7% and 97.3% respectively in the 20 DAT investigate after the first treatment of GLU 540 g a.i. ha-1 and the high control value of 100% in other all kinds of grasses. According to an investigation of stalk enlargement, length of new shoot and the number of new shoot made to know differences in tree growth following treatment of the lower part of crown, to use weed killers two or three times a year or to eliminate grasses with machines have positive effects on cross growth of pear trees.
