Side Force Modeling of Landing Gear and Ground Directional Controller Design for UAV (무인기용 착륙장치 측력 모델링 및 지상활주 제어기 설계)

  • This paper describes modeling process to obtain precise landing gear model which is necessary to design a control law for ground auto-taxi, auto take-off/landing of UAV. In this paper, landing gear side force modeling is studied to complete a landing gear model of UAV. Side force modeling is performed by calculating cornering angle including steering angle. And ground directional controller is designed by using nose wheel steering and rudder steering at the same time to control course angle error. Accuracy of landing gear side force modeling and ground directional controller is proved by comparing of auto-taxi test results with simulation results.

Estimation and Verification of Commercial Stability Augmentation System Logic for Small UAV (소형무인기 상용 안정성 증대 장치 로직 추정과 검증)

  • Because rotorcraft is unstable, it needs a stability system such as flybar. Recently, sensor technology has been developed, it uses a stability augmentation system to improve stability instead of flybar. To use of these rotorcraft which include stability augmentations system for unmanned system, flight control computer, include stability augmentations system function, must be required. In this paper, a reverse-engineering method of estimating Algorithm of Commercial Stability Augmentation System is proposed, the result is applied in the flight computer to make an unmanned rotorcraft system. Finally using a validated algorithm, it is possible to establish a system of unmanned automatic rotorcraft system.

Design Verification of Environmental Control System by Flow Balance Test (유량평형시험을 통한 환경제어계통 설계 검증)

  • In this study, we analyzed the system impedance of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle avionics bay and Environmental Control System(ECS), and estimated the proper air flow rate to be supplied avionics equipments. As the result of estimation, we evaluated the performance of ECS after analysing the flow balance rate and the air flow rate about each outlet port, and simultaneously decided the flow balance rate after evaluating the thermal substantiality by the thermal analysis of avionics bay. In order to verify the property of analysis result, we conducted the flow balance test using the actual avionics equipments and finally deduced the flow rate to be met system requirements of avionics equipments. Also, as the analysis results, we verified the satisfaction of system requirements at midium altitude condition and proved the performance characteristics of an Environmental Control System(ECS).

Lane Extraction through UAV Mapping and Its Accuracy Assessment (무인항공기 매핑을 통한 차선 추출 및 정확도 평가)

  • Recently, global companies are developing the automobile technologies, converged with state-of-the-art IT technologies for the commercialization of autonomous vehicles. These autonomous vehicles are required the accurate lane information to enhance its reliability by controlling the vehicles safely. Hence, the study planned to examine possibilities of applying UAV photogrammetry of high-resolution images, obtained from the low altitudes. The high-resolution DSM and the ortho-images were generated from the GSD 7cm-level digital images that were obtained and based on the generated data, when the positions information of the roads including the lanes were extracted. In fact, the RMSE of verifying the extracted data was shown to be about 15cm. Through the results from the study, it could be concluded that the low alititude UAV photogrammetry can be applied for generating and updating a high-accuracy map of road areas.

Aerial Video Summarization Approach based on Sensor Operation Mode for Real-time Context Recognition (실시간 상황 인식을 위한 센서 운용 모드 기반 항공 영상 요약 기법)

  • An Aerial video summarization is not only the key to effective browsing video within a limited time, but also an embedded cue to efficiently congregative situation awareness acquired by unmanned aerial vehicle. Different with previous works, we utilize sensor operation mode of unmanned aerial vehicle, which is global, local, and focused surveillance mode in order for accurately summarizing the aerial video considering flight and surveillance/reconnaissance environments. In focused mode, we propose the moving-react tracking method which utilizes the partitioning motion vector and spatiotemporal saliency map to detect and track the interest moving object continuously. In our simulation result, the key frames are correctly detected for aerial video summarization according to the sensor operation mode of aerial vehicle and finally, we verify the efficiency of video summarization using the proposed mothed.

  • Recently, as the industrial scope of multi-rotor unmanned aerial vehicles(UAV) is greatly expanded, the demands for data collection, processing, and analysis using UAV are also increasing. However, the acoustic data collected by using the UAV is greatly corrupted by the UAV's motor noise and wind noise, which makes it difficult to process and analyze the acoustic data. Therefore, we have studied a method to enhance the target sound from the acoustic signal received through microphones connected to UAV. In this paper, we have extended the densely connected dilated convolutional network, one of the existing single channel acoustic enhancement technique, to consider the inter-channel characteristics of the acoustic signal. As a result, the extended model performed better than the existed model in all evaluation measures such as SDR, PESQ, and STOI.

Regionalized TSCH Slotframe-Based Aerial Data Collection Using Wake-Up Radio (Wake-Up Radio를 활용한 지역화 TSCH 슬롯프레임 기반 항공 데이터 수집 연구)

  • This paper presents a regionalized time slotted channel hopping (TSCH) slotframe-based aerial data collection using wake-up radio. The proposed scheme aims to minimize the delay and energy consumption when an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) collects data from sensor devices in the large-scale service area. To this end, the proposed scheme divides the service area into multiple regions, and determines the TSCH slotframe length for each region according to the number of cells required by sensor devices in each region. Then, it allocates the cells dedicated for data transmission to the TSCH slotframe using the ID of each sensor device. For energy-efficient data collection, the sensor devices use a wake-up radio. Specifically, the sensor devices use a wake-up radio to activate a network interface only in the cells allocated for beacon reception and data transmission. The simulation results showed that the proposed scheme exhibited better performance in terms of delay and energy consumption compared to the existing scheme.

3-Dimensional Path Planning and Guidance for High Altitude Long Endurance UAV Including a Solar Power Model (태양광 전력모델을 포함한 장기체공 무인기의 3차원 경로계획 및 유도)

  • This paper introduces 3-dimensional path planning and guidance including power model for high altitude long endurance (HALE) UAV using solar energy. Dubins curve used in this paper has advantage of being directly available to apply path planning. However, most of the path planning problems using Dubins curve are defined in a two-dimensional plan. So, we used 3-dimensional Dubins path generation algorithm which was studied by Randal W. Beard. The aircraft model which used in this paper does not have an aileron. So we designed lateral controller by using a rudder. And then, we were conducted path tracking simulations by using a nonlinear path tracking algorithm. We generate examples according to altitude conditions. From the path tracking simulation results, we confirm that the path tracking is well on the flight path. Finally, we were modeling the power system of HALE UAVs and conducting path tracking simulation during 48hours. Modeling the amount of power generated by the solar cell through the calculation of the solar energy yield. And, we show the 48hours path tracking simulation results.

Analysis of Physical Combat Power for Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle (무인전투기 물리적 전투력 분석)

  • The objective of this study was to use the Lanchester equation to predict the outcome of our engagement between our unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) (Blue Group) and enemy UAV (Red Group). Lanchester's law states that the power of corps is proportional to the number of combatants. A second law states that the power of corps is proportional to the square of the number of combatants. The first law is a suitable law for guerrilla warfare while the second law is known as the law suitable for all-out war. Therefore, the second law is commonly used. The second law of Lanchester's was used in this study to predict engagement results. We estimated the battle loss rate value to win the battle as well as the required power number. We also predicted power number to make the damage of our group less than one. The battle loss rate to reliably receive victory when the enemy's UAV and the ally's UAV are equal in number of combat units must be 1: 1.5 or more.

Design of C-Band Frequency Up-Converter in Communication System for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (무인 항공기의 통신 시스템에 사용되는 C-대역 주파수 상향 변환기 설계)

  • In this paper, we present design, fabrication, and measured results for a frequency upconverter for a wireless communication system of UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). The specifications of such wireless communication system requires the special features of maximum range of communication as well as deployment in UAV and repairing. The frequency upconverter operating at $5.25{\sim}5.45\;GHz$ in C-band was designed and fabricated considering such special features. The AGC function was included because the required output power should be constant for optimal system operation. The fabricated upconverter showed a constant output power of $+2{\pm}0.5\;dBm$ for the $-15{\sim}-10\;dBm$ input. Spuriouses were below -60 dBc and the adjacent leakage power was below -40 dBc. In addition, LO sources in the upconverter was implemented using the frequency synthesizer with step 1 MHz. This is for the application to the situation where multiple UAVs employed and the possible change of the permitted frequency band. The synthesizer showed a phase noise of -100 dBc/Hz at the 100 kHz frequency offset.
