Relation of Organic Matter Content and Nitrogen Mineralization of Soils Collected from Pepper Cultivated Land (고추 재배 밭에서 채취한 토양의 유기물 함량과 질소 무기화 량의 관계)

  • BACKGROUND: Estimation of soil nitrogen supply is essential to manage nitrogen fertilization in arable land. In Korea, nitrogen fertilization is recommended based on the soil organic matter content because it is difficult to assess nitrogen (N) mineralization of upland soils directly. In this study, the relationship between soil organic matter (SOM) content and N mineralization was investigated to explore the limitation of using SOM in predicting soil N mineralization. METHODS AND RESULTS: Soil samples from the 0 to 10 cm depth were collected from 18 individual pepper cultivated fields in Tae-an and Chung-yang provinces before fertilization. N mineralization in the soils was quantified using incubation for 70 days at $30^{\circ}C$. The mineralizable soil N (MSN) was positively correlated with SOM, and the relation equation between MSN and SOM was '$MSN(kg\;10a^{-1})=0.2933{\ast}SOM(g\;kg^{-1})+0.0897$ ($r^2=0.6224$, p<0.001)'. However, the differences of N mineralization among the soils with the similar concentrations of soil organic matter were about 3 to 4.6 times, suggesting that the other soil factors such as total N concentration or EC should affect N mineralization. CONCLUSION: We concluded that SOM alone could not reflect the capacity of soil to supply N that is used for recommendation of N fertilization rate. Therefore, other soil properties should be considered to improve N fertilization management in arable land for sustainable agriculture.

  • 공직 36년동안 오로지 국민의 행복을 위해 부의와 타협하지 않고 소신 있는 일처리로 정평이 났던 이정운(67) 전 농촌진흥청 연구관리국장. 고교시절부터 좌우명인 '일근천하무난사 백인당중유태화(一根天下無難事, 百忍堂中有泰和)'를 실천할 수 있었던 초석은 아마도 늘 '정직'을 강조하셨던 어머니의 가르침과 독실한 가톨릭 신자로서 가진 신앙의 힘이 아니었을까 싶다. 한결같이 부지런하면 천하에 어려운 일이 없고 백번 참으면 집안에 큰 평화가 있다는 의미의 좌우명이다. 가훈 또한 '하느님 은총아래 겸손하게 감사하며 사랑으로 살자'이며 애창곡 역시도 '사랑으로'일만큼 그 삶은 온통 감사와 사랑, 정직의 궤를 벗어난 예가 없다. 사랑을 실천하며 멘토의 역할을 마다 않는 이 국장을 용인시에 위치한 고풍스러운 한정식집에서 만나보았다.

Effects of Plant Growth Regulator Treatments During the Grain Filling Period on Seed and Viviparous Germination in Rice (벼 등숙기의 생장조절제처리가 종실 및 수발아에 미치는 영향)

  • Experiments were conducted to find out the method of reducing viviparous germination of rice seeds using growth regulators during grain filling period. Among the recommended varieties, early Japonica type showed higher rate of viviparous germination, while late Japonica type and Tongil type varieties did not show viviparous germination in field condition. Grain showed high germination ability from 30 days of grain filling period in Daeseongbyeo of Japonica type and 35 days in Taebackbyeo of Tongil type. Growth regulators, NAA, CMH and Reglone were effective for reducing viviparous germination to the two rice varieties and three treatment stages in this experiment. NAA and CMH were most effective at 100 ppm and Reglone was at 0.4-0.6% concentration. Germination rates of rice seed were not different from non-treatment when NAA CMH were treated, while Reglone lowered germination rate. NAA and CMH had no effects on grain filling rate for both varieties, which showed high grain filling rate as the non-treatment, but Reglone results low grain filling rate. Grain color was not changes when NAA was applied, while CMH and Reglone made a lot of grain to dark brown as the concentration became higher. When grain were hulled, NAA had no difference with the non-treatment whereas CMH and Reglone had lower rate of perfect brown rice when they were applied at 20-30 days after heading.

A Study on the Linkage of Public-private Organizations in Disaster Management in Rural Area (농촌지역의 재난관리 민관조직 연계방안 연구)

  • In this study, the characteristics and the status of disaster management in rural area were analyzed. Through this study, we tried to find ways to cooperate with public and private organizations to manage disaster in rural areas. In order to understand the current state of disaster management in rural areas, we surveyed the residents and disaster management officials of local governments. As a result of the survey, both public servants and residents answered that it is difficult for residents to participate in disaster management. This is due to lack of time due to agriculture as the main business. The SWOT analysis and strategy of rural disaster management were derived through the analysis of these surveys. In addition, five types of disaster management network and two types of operation were proposed. Therefore, it is necessary to establish the management plan of the rural disaster management public-private network in the rural area. Further research is needed in depth on each of the operational measures in the future.

Effect of 1-MCP Fumigation on the Leaf Chlorosis and Vase Life of Cut Lilies 'Siberia' and 'Medusa' (1-MCP(1-Methylcyclopropene) 훈증 처리가 절화 백합 '시베리아'와 '메두사'의 잎 황화와 절화 수명에 미치는 영향)

  • 전북 완주군 농가에서 2017년 12월에 재배한 '시베리아'와 '메두사' 품종을 1시간 이내에 국립원예특작과학원 실험실로 이동하였다. 알약(SmartFreshTM, AgroFresh Inc., USA)형태의 1-MCP를 1.875g/3.55m3 기준으로 정량하여 Activator Kit(SmartFreshTM, AgroFresh Inc., USA)에 넣어 마개를 닫고 몇 번 흔들어주어 녹인 후 1.5 ppm이 되도록 처리하였으며 3시간 훈증 후 30분 환기하였다. 훈증처리 후 절화 백합은 유공 필름 슬리브를 이용하여 포장한 후 골판지상자에 넣어 모의 수출환경에서 수송방식은 건식(건조처리)상태로 $4^{\circ}C$ 저장고에 암상태로 저장하면서 무처리를 대조로 에틸렌 노출 조건 조성을 위하여 후레쉬라이프(탑프레쉬) 5g 봉지를 상자내부 5개, 상자외부 저장고 내에 10개로 총 15개의 에틸렌 발생제 처리를 하였다. 백합 절화 신선도 유지기간 연장을 위한 선도유지제 전처리 효과는 1.5 ppm 1-MCP 3시간 훈증처리에 의해 잎의 황화현상을 지연시키는 효과가 있었다. 전체적으로 판정한 절화수명은 '시베리아'는 무처리 9.0일, 1-MCP 훈증 9.0일, 에틸렌 발생제 8.3일, 1-MCP 훈증+에틸렌 발생제 9.5일이었으며 '메두사'는 무처리 6.5일, 1-MCP 훈증 7.5일, 에틸렌 발생제 5.7일, 1-MCP 훈증+에틸렌 발생제 8.5일로 나타났다. 에틸렌에 노출은 꽃의 빠른 노화를 야기하여 절화수명을 단축 시켰으며 이상개화를 보이는 꽃도 있어 상품성이 크게 떨어졌다. 1-MCP에 의해 잎의 황화 억제에 효과적이었으며 저장 중 에틸렌 발생제를 동시에 처리하였을 때 품질유지 효과가 더 크게 나타났으며 '메두사' 품종에서는 만개시 화색도 더 진하게 나타났다. 따라서, 저온저장이나 선적시 에틸렌 발생이 많은 품목과 혼합하게 될 것이 예상될 경우에 품질유지를 위해 1-MCP 훈증처리를 하면 효과적일 것으로 사료된다.

Effects of 1-MCP and AVG on the Vase Life of Cut Cymbidium Flowers (1-MCP, AVG 처리가 절화 심비디움의 수명에 미치는 효과)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the detrimental effects of decapping and emasculation on the postharvest quality and the vase life of cut Cymbidium flowers with or without 1-Methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) and Aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) treatments. The vase life treated by 1-MCP 150 ppb for four hours regardless of decapping or emasculation was significantly prolonged 12 days more. Ethylene production in the treatment without 1-MCP began to be raised from 7days, 1-MCP treatments, regardless of the concentration of processing did not occur until 15days. Ethylene began to production when the lip began to coloration. Compared to the 1-MCP effect, the AVG treatment of 0.5 and 1mM for four hours prolonged the vase life about nine days more. Whereas, the only decapping or emasculation treatments were effective to more three days longer in the vase life of cut Cymbidium' Halleluiah' flowers. 1-MCP treatment was very beneficial for Cymbidium 'Halleluiah' cut flowers than AVG.
