Design of Effective Intrusion Detection System for Wireless Local Area Network (무선랜을 위한 효율적인 침입탐지시스템 설계)

  • Most threats of WLAN are easily caused by attackers who access to the radio link between STA and AP, which involves some Problems to intercept network communications or inject additional messages into them. In comparison with wired LAN, severity of wireless LAN against threats is bigger than the other networks. To make up for the vulnerability of wireless LAN, it needs to use the Intrusion Detection System using a powerful intrusion detection method as SVM. However, due to classification based on calculating values after having expressed input data in vector space by SVM, continuous data type can not be used as any input data. In this paper, therefore, we design the IDS system for WLAN by tuning with SVM and data-mining mechanism to defend the vulnerability on certain WLAN and then we demonstrate the superiority of our method.

  • The most popular communication protocol is those defined by the IEEE 802.11 WLAN to support broadband internet connection. The demand for real-time multimedia service is increasing through WLAN on the road. The Hand-off function of mobile terminal is essential to support mobility. But, the hand-off function of IEEE 802.11 WLANs has the latency up to 300ms, and recent research has focusing on channel scanning and reconnection to AP and certification process of AP. It is also the lack of consideration in related works that hand-off happens frequently when the mobile node is moving. This paper proposed the hand-off algorithm that guarantees high throughput and estimates the point which may occur hand-off using GPS information and RSSI. We implement the proposed hand-off function that achieves the best performance.

  • Among indoor positioning system techniques using wireless APs, fingerprint techniques collect Mac information and reception strength of APs before performing positioning, build a radio map, and compare it with AP information collected during positioning. However, the existing Radio Map construction method has a problem in that signal interference occurs due to collisions of numerous APs depending on the indoor environment, and the signal strength search result is not always constant. Therefore, this paper compares the existing fixed radio map construction method and the variable radio map construction technique that actively analyzes and constructs the measurement area itself according to signal strength.

  • Wireless network is convenient as compared to the wire, and it is also easy. Therefore, SMEs in the country is the trend that many SMEs prefer the radio using a lot of radio as an extension of the wired network modification felt the burden of fixed installations. Wireless networks are vulnerable to security together than a wired network, since it passes the packet through the broadcasting. Therefore, analyzing the vulnerability of wireless networks, and proposes countermeasures about wireless network security in small and medium-sized businesses.

Improvement of Handoff Performance Using Prefetched AP Information in IEEE 802.11 (IEEE 802.11 환경에서 사전 AP 정보를 이용한 핸드오프 성능 개선)

  • This paper proposes the improved handoff mechanism for IEEE 802.11 wireless LANs. When a wireless mobile node moves out of the coverage of its currently associated AP(Access Point) and needs to be re-associated with a new AP, a handoff procedure is initiated. Channel scanning process during a handoff procedure occupies over 90% of total handoff latency. Long latency leads to many packet losses and service discontinuity, which degrades wireless network performance. This paper describes about the new mechanism to improve handoff performance by skipping channel scanning during a handoff procedure. In oerder for that, acquires neighboring AP information such as its address, location, channel number in use, the number of associated nodes before handoff, and delivers the information to its associated mobile nodes. The mobile nodes can reduce handoff latency and perform more exact handoff using the delivered AP information. We have conducted simulations to analyze our proposal's performance and confirmed that handoff latency and the number of handoff occurrences are decreased.

  • IoT management hub has to request the WLAN AP list of the accessible areas in a place that is installed, or choose a specific WLAN AP you want to connect in order to be connected to the Internet. the specific method also is required to input the password when the security key was set. As that way, IoT management hub needs both the display device and the input device to see the list of WLAN AP and to input the security key. If the IoT management hub is consist of them, It is difficult to achieve the objective of the miniaturization and cost reduction. In this paper, we propose a method to connect to a WLAN AP network using a smart-phone without the display device and the input device.

  • 한국정보통신기술협회(TTA)에서 제공하고 있는 상호운용성시험(ION: Interoperability ON!)은 각 기술분야에 대해 서로 다른 회사 제품들간 상호운용성을 시험하는 행사로서 2004년 12월 7일부터 9일까지 3일 동안 IEEE802.11a+g 듀얼밴드 고속무선랜 AP(Access Point)와 카드에 대한 ION을 실시하였다. 이번 ION에서는 상호운용성과 더불어 WPA(Wi-Fi Protected Access)보안, 그리고 무선랜 제품의 RF(Radio Frequency) 적합성, AP의 성능 및 안정성에 대하여 시험하였다. 총 6개의 국내업체가 참가한 가운데 TTA 기준장비와의 상호운용성 시험, 참가업체간 상호운용성 시험을 실시하여 국내업체의 802.11a+g 듀얼모드 장비 기술수준 향상 및 앞으로 진행될 무선랜 RF 및 성능에 대한 TTA 인증 안 검토에도 많은 도움을 얻을 수 있었다.

  • In wireless environment, to provide more efficient service area is need to maintain proper location of wireless LAN AP. Since structural effect corresponding to location of arbitrary scatterers must be considered. Using FDTD method, an obstacle in scattering field should be considered and its diffraction effect for some cross wall is estimated between transmitter and receiver point.

  • IT기술의 발전으로 인하여 스마트 폰, 테블릿 PC, 노트북 등의 고사양을 가진 모바일 단말의 보급률이 증가하고 있으며, 모바일 단말이 사용하는 IEEE 802.11 표준 기술 또한 지속적인 보완작업과 개정작업을 통해 지원하는 주파수 대역 확장 되었으며, 데이터 전송속도도 빨라지고 있다. 하지만 기술이 발전하고 있음에도 불구하고, Management Frame의 무결성 확인 과정의 부재로 인한 보안 취약성이 아직 남아 있으며, 이를 악용하는 악성행위자의 ARP Spoofing 공격, AP DoS(Denial of Service) 공격, Mac Spoofing 을 기반한 Rouge AP 공격 등에 취약하다. 공공기관, 회사에서는 위 같은 취약점으로부터 무선네트워크를 보호하기 위해 WIPS 시스템을 도입하였지만, 이 또한 Management Frame의 취약성을 근본적으로 해결 할 수 없었다. 때문에 IEEE 802.11 워킹그룹은 Management Frame 보안성을 향상시킨 IEEE 802.11w-2009 표준 기술이 제안 하였으며, 이로 인해 Management Frame의 무결성을 확인하지 않아 발생하는 취약성으로 인한 보안 위협을 근본적으로 방지 할 수 있게 되었다. 하지만 IEEE 802.11w 표준 환경을 적용함으로써 새로운 유형의 보안 위협이 발생되었다. 따라서 본고에서는 IEEE 802.11w 표준에 대하여 살펴보며, IEEE 802.11w 표준 환경에서의 보안 기술에 대한 동향 알아본다.

  • 모바일 기기가 무선 LAN, 블루투스 등을 지원하면서 언제 어디서나 다양한 네트워크와의 접속은 물론 끊김이 없는 서비스를 요구한다. 이에 사용자의 이동과 물리적 환경의 변화에도 네트워크 접속을 유지할 수 있는 통신 메카니즘과 모바일 장치의 이동성 관리가 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 Personal Area Networking Profile의 BNEP (Bluetooth Networking Encapsulation Protocol)를 사용하여 BAP(블루투스 AP)와 모바일 기기의 LAN 접속은 물론, 이종 네트워크 환경에서 사용자 이동에도 끊김 없는 서비스가 가능하게 하여 블루투스 단말의 인터넷 접근과 IP 이동성을 효율적으로 지원한다. 테스트베드를 구축하여, USB 타입의 블루투스 Dongle을 이용한 AP를 구현하고 이종 네트워크 접속 가능과 네트워크 상황에 따른 이종 네트워크 장치의 적절한 사용을 확인하였다. 이종 네트워크의 핸드오버에 필요한 설정을 미리 실행하여 핸드오버에 발생하는 지연시간과 패킷 손실을 확연히 줄였다.
