The Proposal and Implementation of Wireless Smart Sensor Node and NCAP System based on the IEEE 1451 (IEEE 1451 기반의 Wireless Smart Sensor Node와 NCAP 시스템의 제안과 구현)

  • IEEE 1451 standard defines an interface for network and transducer. In this paper, We propose an architectural model to configure data acquisition system and wireless smart sensor node based on IEEE 1451 standard. Proposed Network Capable Application Processor(NCAP) supports the task of data acquisition and communication for smart sensor node and network. The NCAP is able to reconfigure without interrupting the functionality of the wireless sensor node and receives the critical information of transducer using the DB. Smart sensor node is able to provide the basic information of sensor in digital format. This digital format is called Transducer Electronic Data Sheet(TEDS), is capable of plug-and-play capability of wireless sensor node and the NCAP. We simplify the format of TEDS and template to apply to wireless network environment. information of TEDS and template is transmitted using ad-hoc routing. This study system uses body temperature sensor and ECG(Electrocardiogram) sensor to provide the medical information service. The format of template is selected by data sheet of the sensor and reconfigured to accurately describe the property of the sensor. DB of NCAP is possible to register new template and information of the property as developing new sensor.

Load Balancing Mechanisms for Foreign Agents in Hierarchical Mobile IPv4 Networks (계층적 MIPv4 네트워크에서의 외부 에이전트 부하 분산 방안)

  • In hierarchical Mobile IPv4 Networks the highest FA(Foreign Agent) may experience serious congestion and delay since the highest FA plays a role of CoA(Care of Address) for all mobile nodes in the domain, In this paper, we propose mechanism called 'HRFA(Hierarchical Root Foreign Agent)', which distributes the load imposed on the highest FA. In the proposed HRFA scheme, multiple HRFAs are selected to provide the similar service that is provided by the highest FA. According to which entity determines HRFAs, HRFA scheme is categorized into 'Active' and 'Passive' approaches. HRFA scheme is further categorized into 'All MN(Mobile Node)s' and 'New MNs' approaches, depending on which mobile nodes are assigned to a newly elected HRFA. Through a course of simulations, we investigate the performance of 4 possible combinations of HRFA schemes. We also compare the performance of the proposed HRFA schemes with the LMSP(Local Multicast Service Provider) scheme, which is a scheme to distribute the load of FA for multicast service in hierarchical wireless network domain. The simulation results show that the Passive & New MN approach performs best with respect to both the overhead and the load balancing.

Combination of Token Bucket and AMP Schemes to Solve Buffer Underflow and Overflow of Video Streaming in Wireless Communication (무선통신 환경에서 비디오 스트리밍의 버퍼 언더플로우와 오버플로우를 해결하기 위한 토큰버킷과 AMP 기법의 결합)

  • In wireless communication network, the amount of packet data for the video streaming in the playout buffer of the receiver is changed with time according to network condition. If the amount of packet data is less than a specific buffer amount, the buffer underflow problem is generated. On the contrary, if the amount of packet data is more than a given buffer amount, the buffer overflow problem is occurred. When the playout of the video streaming is processed, these buffer underflow and overflow problems cause stop and skip phenomenons and then provide the discontinuity of playout. Therefore, to solve the buffer underflow and overflow problems of the video streaming in wireless communication network, This paper analyzes the combined effect of Token Bucket scheme, which controls the bursty traffic, and AMP(Adaptive Media Playout) scheme, which adaptively changes the playout speed of receiver. Through simulation, we found that the combination of Token Bucket and AMP schemes provides the superiority in terms of the occurrence number of buffer underflow and overflow, the stop duration time and the number of removed frames generated by underflow and overflow, and PSNR.

A study on the discriminant analysis of node deployment based on cable type Wi-Fi in indoor (케이블형 Wi-Fi 기반 실내 공간의 노드 배치 판별 분석에 관한 연구)

  • An indoor positioning system using Wi-Fi is essential to produce a radio map that combines the indoor space of two or more dimensions, the information of node positions, and etc. in processing for constructing the radio map, the measurement of the received signal strength indicator(RSSI) and the confirmation of node placement information counsume substantial time. Especially, when the installed wireless environment is changed or a new space is created, easy installation of the node and fast indoor radio mapping are needed to provide indoor location-based services. In this paper, to reduce the time consumption, we propose an algorithm to distinguish the straight and curve lines of a corridor section by RSSI visualization and Sobel filter-based edge detection that enable accurate node deployment and space analysis using cable-type Wi-Fi node installed at a 3 m interval. Because the cable type Wi-Fi is connected by a same power line, it has an advantage that the installation order of nodes at regular intervals could be confirmed accurately. To be able to analyze specific sections in space based on this advantage, the distribution of the signal was confirmed and analyzed by Sobel filter based edge detection and total RSSI distribution(TRD) computation through a visualization process based on the measured RSSI. As a result to compare the raw data with the performance of the proposed algorithm, the signal intensity of proposed algorithm is improved by 13.73 % in the curve section. Besides, the characteristics of the straight and the curve line were enhanced as the signal intensity of the straight line decreased by an average of 34.16 %.

  • A monitoring system needs many parameters to increase devices for monitoring data and to support various services. In particular, monitoring the status of a device in a wireless mobile environment has a difficulty in displaying multi data in a limited screen size, and transfer of the status data of a device into a network is largely related with network traffic. The research aims at designing a control board that collects data in order to effectively manage a greenhouse environment system. Also, the research tries to appropriately operate devices, environment data monitoring, and the control of each device by realizing a multiplexed interface based on a web. Thus, in the case in which a distributed client was a computer, monitoring and control were obtained with a web browser through the Lab VIEW web server of a server or local control module in order to effectively monitor and control according to the status of a user. In the case in which a client was a PDA, application of a wireless mobile considering the scale and data processing capacity of a displayer was connected. As a result of the research, we could confirm a satisfactory outcome from the viewpoint of a human-centered design by supplying adaptability and mobility according to the environment of a user.

  • Providing a mobile host with its required QoS is highly influenced by its mobility. The resource ReSerVation Protocol(RSVP) establishes and maintains a reservation state to ensure a given QoS level along the path from the sender to the receiver. However, RSVP is designed for use in fixed networks and thus it is inadequate in the mobile networking environment where a host changes its point of attachment. In this paper, we propose a new resource reservation protocol, RSVP-RA(RSVP by RSVP Agent) for mobile hosts. Our protocol assumes IETF Mobile IP as a mobility support mechanism. The proposed protocol introduce a new protocol entity - RSVP agent - to manage reservations in a mobile host's current visiting network. RSVP Agent is located in a local network and makes resource reservations in neighboring cells that the mobile host is expected to visit in the future. Thus, the proposed Protocol can provide a seamless QoS to the mobile host and significantly improve the scalability problem of RSVP by reducing the end-to-end signalling messages acrossing the backbone networks. The proposed protocols reduce packet delay, bandwidth overhead and the number of RSVP messages to maintain reservation states. We compared the performance of our proposed protocol with other proposed protocols in terms of signalling overhead, packet delay by simulation.

A Backup Node Based Fault-tolerance Scheme for Coverage Preserving in Wireless Sensor Networks (무선 센서 네트워크에서의 감지범위 보존을 위한 백업 노드 기반 결함 허용 기법)

  • In wireless sensor networks, the limited battery resources of sensor nodes have a direct impact on network lifetime. To reduce unnecessary power consumption, it is often the case that only a minimum number of sensor nodes operate in active mode while the others are kept in sleep mode. In such a case, however, the network service can be easily unreliable if any active node is unable to perform its sensing or communication function because of an unexpected failure. Thus, for achieving reliable sensing, it is important to maintain the sensing level even when some sensor nodes fail. In this paper, we propose a new fault-tolerance scheme, called FCP(Fault-tolerant Coverage Preserving), that gives an efficient way to handle the degradation of the sensing level caused by sensor node failures. In the proposed FCP scheme, a set of backup nodes are pre-designated for each active node to be used to replace the active node in case of its failure. Experimental results show that the FCP scheme provides enhanced performance with reduced overhead in terms of sensing coverage preserving, the number of backup nodes and the amount of control messages. On the average, the percentage of coverage preserving is improved by 87.2% while the additional number of backup nodes and the additional amount of control messages are reduced by 57.6% and 99.5%, respectively, compared with previous fault-tolerance schemes.

Hallym Jikimi: A Remote Monitoring System for Daily Activities of Elders Living Alone (한림 지킴이: 독거노인 일상 활동 원격 모니터링 시스템)

  • This paper describes a remote system to monitor the circadian behavioral patterns of elders who live alone. The proposed system was designed and implemented to provide more conveniently and reliably the required functionalities of a remote monitoring system for elders based on the development of first phase prototype[2]. The developed system is composed of an in-house sensing system and a server system. The in-house sensing system is a set of wireless sensor nodes which have pyroelectric infrared (PIR) sensor to detect a motion of elder. Each sensing node sends its detection signal to a home gateway via wireless link. The home gateway stores the received signals into a remote database. The server system is composed of a database server and a web server, which provides web-based monitoring system to caregivers (friends, family and social workers) for more cost effective intelligent care service. The improved second phase system can provide 'automatic diagnosis', 'going out detection', and enhanced user interface functionalities. We have evaluated the first and second phase monitoring systems from real field experiments of 3/4 months continuous operation with installation of 9/15 elders' houses, respectively. The experimental results show the promising possibilities to estimate the behavioral patterns and the current status of elder even though the simplicity of sensing capability.

An Efficient Broadcasting Channel Assignment Scheme for Mobile VOD Services (모바일 VOD 서비스를 위한 브로드캐스팅 채널할당 기법)

  • Recently with the rapid evolution of the mobile computing and communication technologies, mobile VOD service becomes increasingly important for wireless mobile users. The VOD service is being widely used in various areas of application, such as education, entertainment and business, because it provides users convenience in easily having access to video information at any time in any places. However, in reality, the mobile system has many difficulties in providing the smooth VOD service owing to frequent transfers and cutoffs of clients. The importance of a technique to transmit broadcasting is being stressed as a method for providing stabler mobile VOD service to a large number of clients. This paper is aimed at showing how to reduce demands for server bandwidth and delay of earlier service through performance analysis by suggesting an effective VOD broadcasting transmission technique through channel division in the mobile atmosphere. Many researches have been made about regular broadcasting techniques in particular. This study divides the methods used for assigning channels which have been decided by the size of segments into a group of regular channels and assistant channels using wireless gap-fillers to provide effective VOD services to a large number of clients at the mobile environment using small bandwidth resources. The regular channels transfer regular streams, while assistant channels repeatedly transfer the first segment to reduce early service delay time to receive regular streams. In this way, the study suggests a technique to reduce server bandwidth demand and early service delay time. Through the proposed technique, the server bandwidth demand could be reduced by more than 30 percent and the study continuously shows reduced early service delay time through conducting performance analysis.

  • Due to the development of information technology, IT industry has become the core factor of a country competence. So we recognized the importance of information network technology as a basis of IT industry. The infrastructure and service in domestic super-highway information networks show the rapid growth both in quantity and quality because of the government programs. However, foreign information network equipment companies have most of the domestic market-share and have controlled core part of the industry, thus national companies are having a difficulty in penetrating the industry market. In this paper, we will analyze domestic super-highway information network equipment industry and make its activating plan using competitive strategy model.
