Study on Flow Lubrication Selection of Driving Gear Unit for EMU (전동차용 DRIVING GEAR UNIT의 윤활유량 선정에 관한 연구)

  • Many studies are being conducted to improve high speed, light weight and safety of passenger. To improve safety of rolling stock, safety of running performance is most important, and optimizing flow lubrication in driving gear is essential. This study simulates lubricant flow change in driving gear casing which is splashed by the surface of low speed gear teeth following rotational direction of driving gear unit for EMU by using CFD analysis, and based on analysis detail, non-load actual test is conducted for similar driving condition to find out suitability of analysis, selection of lubricate and stability of driving gear.

Effect of Blade Angles on a Micro Axial-Type Turbine Operated in a Low Partial Admission Rate (부분분사 마이크로 축류형터빈에서의 익형각 효과에 관한 연구)

  • A tested micro axial-type turbine consists of two stages and its mean radius of rotor flow passage is 8.4 mm. This turbine could be applied to a driver of micro power system, and its rotational speed in the unloaded state reaches to 100,000 RPM. The performance of this system is sensitive depending on the blade angles of the rotor and stator because it is operated in a low partial admission rate, so a performance test is conducted through measuring the specific output power and the net specific output torque with various blade angles on the nozzle, stator and rotor. The experimental results show that the net specific output torque is varied by 15% by changing the rotor blade angle, and the optimal incidence angle is about $10.3^{\circ}$.

Detection of Misfire in Car Engines using Walsh Discrete Fourier Transform (WDFT를 이용한 자동차 엔진의 실화검출)

  • The primary cause of air pollution by vehicles is imperfect combustion of fuel. One of the most usual causes of this imperfect combustion is the misfire in IC engins. The U.S. EPA(Environment Protection Agency) and the CARB(California air Resources Board) have imposed regulations for the detection of misfiring in automotive engines. The OBD-II regulations require that misfire should be monitored by the engine diagnostic system, and that the goal of OBD-II is to alert the driver to the presence of a malfunction of the emission control system. Several solutions to the misfire detection problem have been proposed for the detection of misfires. However, the performance of these methods in the presence of misfire is not altogether clear. This paper presents a precise method and system for internal combustion engine misfire. Present invention based upon measurements of engine roughness as derived from crankshaft angular velocity measurements with special signal processing method. Crankshaft angular velocity signals are processed by WDPT, so that the more reliable misfire detection than the time domain analysis. Experimental work confirms that it is possible to apply the WDFT for the detection of misfires in no-load idle and road testing.

Development of a 300W Generator for Lightweight Wind Turbine

  • As a population of leisure activities grows and diversifies, there is a great demand for portable and environment-friendly power generation systems. A small wind power generation system is emerging as a suitable power generation equipment to meet these needs. The most important thing when developing a small portable wind turbine is to reduce the weight of the generator and increase the efficiency. The existing 300W wind turbine generator weighs about 10kg, which is heavy to carry. Therefore, a new generator weighing less than 4kg to make it easy to carry with high efficiency has been developed. In addition, considering complicated characteristics of wind volume and topography of Korea, a small wind turbine that can be used in urban and rural areas individually was constructed. Through basic designing and optimization, the lightweight and efficient generator was manufactured. It is a 300W wind turbine designed and fabricated with reduced weight as a prototype. The average output voltage of the generator was 24.7V at 900rpm no-load test. On a load test with the average line voltage 36.8V and the average phase current 2.62A, when the mechanical input was 339.84W, an average voltage output of the generator was measured as 289.5W with efficiency of 85.18%. The generator weight was 3.84kg.
