  • As resource sharing becomes more active and complicated in academic libraries, a better understanding of how librarians-a key stakeholder-view the current level of resource sharing is needed. Using survey method, this study collected data regarding the Perception of 78 librarians with regard to interlibrary loan, document delivery, union catalog construction, shared acquisition, and community building. Overall, the respondents evaluated well-established forms of resource sharing(interlibrary loan, document delivery, and union catalog construction) more positively than less-well developed ones(shared acquisition and community building). Correlation analysis between perception of library/individual characteristics was conducted. Barriers to each of the five areas of resource sharing are also identified in the study.

Comprehensiveness, specificity, currentness, and location of copies were selected for evaluation criteria. And this criteria were practiced to evaluate the relationships its indicators and library-based learning topics of social subjects in Seoul DLS. The results of analyses the DLS union catalog serves users with book-based learning information and lacks specificity to evaluate quality of learning materials. Especially the DLS don't satisfy the learning community with on-line contents. Accordingly it is essential to appoint teacher librarians understanding curricula and instructional values of the catalog for its quality control.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the perception of RDA by university library librarians and the level of perception of emotions, familiarity, understanding, introduction, obstacles, and education, and to secure basic data to improve awareness. The data needed for the study were obtained through a survey of 76 librarians in 4-year university libraries. As a result of the survey, 67.1% of librarians had listened to RDA, and school classes were the highest at 51.0% of cognitive means. Second, librarians perceived that they were more positive emotions than negative emotions about RDA, and that they were not familiar with RDA-related principles or concepts. In particular, it was recognized that the RDA itself and FRAD were not more familiar. The librarian recognized that they understood RDA-related principles or concepts at a normal level, and in particular, recognized that they did not further understand the authority and encoding. Third, librarians recognized the introduction of RDA at a slightly higher level than usual, but among the questions, 'RDA replaces AACR2' was recognized at a normal level. The librarian recognized the obstacles to the introduction of RDA at a higher level than usual, and in particular, the lack of education related to RDA was highly recognized. Fourth, librarians recognized the need for RDA-related education at a high level, especially the use of RDA Toolkit, changes in RDA records, differences between RDA and AACR2, and the need for RDA and MARC21-related education. In this study, based on the research results, a plan to improve librarian awareness of RDA was proposed.

  • One of the fundamental roles of libraries is to provide users with efficient and easy retrieval of materials. Various discussions have been made at domestic and abroad to improve the accessibility of materials by category, user, and collection, and at the center of this is the issue of improving classification and cataloging systems. However, there are few studies in this area dealing with the data accessibility of the DLS catalog, which is a central tool for accessing domestic school library materials. This study started from the appeal of school library users to the difficulty of searching and accessing books, especially literature. This study is an exploratory study that attempts to derive problems by finding the causes of there difficulties from various aspects. To this study, we surveyed and analyzed the current status of school library collections, the data registration of the school library support system DLS, the subject accessibility of catalog records produced through this, and the recognition and opinions of school library professionals. As a result, school library collections were highly concentrated in the literature field, and it was found that there was not enough catalog bibliographic records to provide efficient access to these collections. In addition, it was found to be somewhat lacking through the DLS search function to compensate for this. Surveys of school librarians and librarians have also identified this problem, and a rich topic index and search keyword assignments have been drawn to the majority of opinions as a way to improve access to materials in school library catalogs. As a continuous discussion on this subject, the plan for improving access to school library materials will be more concrete through future user studies and new challenges for bookshelf classification.

  • We present a more complete and accurate catalogue of astronomical records far meteor showers and meteor storms appeared in primary official Korean history books, such as Samguk-sagi, Koryo-sa, Seungjeongwon-ilgi, and Chosen-Wangjo-Sillok. So far the catalogue made by Imoto and Hasegawa in 1958 has been widely used in the international astryonomical society. The catalogue is based on a report by Sekiguchi in 1917 that is mainly based on secondary history books. We observed that the catalogue has a number of errors in either dates or sources of the records. We have thoroughly checked the primary official history books, instead of the secondary ones, in order to make a corrected and extended catalogue. The catalogue contains 25 records of meteor storms, four records of intense meteor-showers, and five records of usual showers in Korean history. We also find that some of those records seem to correspond to some presently active meteor showers such as the Leonids, the Perseids, and the n -Aquarids-Orionids pair. However, a large number of those records do not correspond to suck present showers. This catalogue we obtained can be useful for various astrophysical studies in the future.

  • Catalogers have been reporting the ways they use the Internet for several years, but as yet there has been little evaluation done to determine for which areas of cataloging the Internet is a valuable tool and for which areas it is not as useful. A survey was conducted in an effort to elicit this information. The responses indicated four areas in which catalogers use the Internet : searching the OPACs of other libraries, communicating with colleagues, accessing online cataloging documentation and publications, and authority work. Some catalogers also related processes for which they have found the Internet to not be efficient.
