This study surveyed the online catalog retrieval systems of the university libraries in Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam districts. The types of library materials, and the kinds of access points and retrieval conditions(Boolean logic, methods of index term Identification, and particularities of the retrieval) of these systems are various and different to each other Upon the result of this survey a suggestion for the standardization of online catalog retrieval systems is offered.

In this study in order to verify the overall information seeking behavior of the Web-based OPAC users, it was analyzed transaction log file for 7 years. Regarding Web-based OPAC information seeking behavior, it was studied from the perspective of information seeking strategy and information seeking failure. In search strategy, it was analyzed search type, search options, Boolean operator, length of search text, number of uses of word, number of use Web-based OPAC, number of use by time, by week day. Also, in search failure, search failure ratio, search failure ratio by search options, search failure ratio by Boolean operator were analyzed. The result of this study is expected to be utilized for OPAC system and service improvement in the future.

The purpose of this study is aimed to clarify the usefulness of meta search system using Open API of library online catalog by constructing OPAC-based search system using Open API of library online catalog and meta search system using Open API of library online catalog, and comparing the usability of the two experimental search systems. As for usability, on the whole, it was higher in meta search system using Open API of library online catalog than OPAC-based search system using Open API of library online catalog, and there was statistically significant difference. Therefore, if libraries share and use enriched content which is provided through Open API for book search, which is opened by Internet bookstores, search engines and Web portals, it is expected that it will be helpful in enhancing bibliographic data, expanding subject access point, empowering subject search ability, extending meta search service, improving book availability, and reducing catalog cost.

In this paper, we propose an efficient URL lookup algorithm for URL list-based web contents filtering systems. Converting a URL list into URL prefix form and building a hash tree representation of them, the proposed algorithm performs tree searches for URL lookups. It eliminates redundant searches of hash table method. Experimental results show that proposed algorithm is $62%{\sim}210%$ faster, depending on the number of segment, than conventional hash table method.

The purpose of this study is to present the design of search interface of mobile catalog of University libraries by identifying the current situation of search interface of mobile catalog of domestic and overseas academic libraries and users' preferences derived by survey, and reflecting the combined results. The investigation on current situation of search interface of mobile catalog of domestic University libraries was carried out by using checklist for functional assessment targeting 82 mobile catalogs. For overseas examples, contents and functional elements about 15 mobile catalog search interface of academic libraries in England and US were examined and analyzed. In addition, three domestic University libraries's mobile catalogs were selected as research targets and the survey was carried out to identify the situation of use of mobile catalog and preference on search interface.

본 연구의 목적은 저거슨이 제시한 12가지 이미지 속성을 목록요소로 하여 국내, 국외 회화 이미지 검색 시스템(Art Image Retrieval System; 이하 AIRS)을 구축하고, 이용자로 하여금 이 두 시스템을 통해 회화 이미지를 검색하도록 함으로써 저거슨인 제시한 이미지 목록 요소가 실제 시스템 검색에 적합한지와 이용자 만족도를 측정하고 비교함으로써 시스템을 평가하고자 한다. 또한 저거슨이 제시한 이미지 목록요소가 회화 이미지를 검색하는데 충분하지 않다면 추가되어야 할 요소가 무엇인지를 파악하고자 한다.

The list of the titles of surveying-related papers and books is updated by adding newly polished paper/book titles to the existing one. A special title-search program is developed for managing and searching the surveying-re-lated paper/book titles, and the database is established from the list of the papers. The total number of papers/books in surveying-related field published in Korea upto now is 971. The number of papers/books published in the specific fields are 206 in the conventional surveying field, 218 in Photogrammetry, 183 in Remote Sensing, 127 in Geodesy and GPS, and 237 in Digital Mapping and GIS. The special title-search program is developed using the Visual Basic 3.0 for Windows 3.1 to be operated in the Window environment. The SQL(Structured Query Language) is used for the searching commands.

Information users depend more and more on portal sites for Internet navigation. These circumstances are reflected in academic information market especially. As the path of contacting public knowledge information, many institutions of information creation and services are collaborating with portal sites. At this point in time, it is necessary to consider linking libraries services with portal sites. Especially university libraries which have been recognized as private facilities of each university must to be considered as public facilities of local community. So it is desirable to develop method for linking university library services with portal sites for revitalizing university library services. This paper presents methods linking library OPACs with portal sites, through surveying oversea's cases and situation of domestic portal sites.

일반적으로 정보검색의 표준화된 통신규약인 Z39.50 프로토콜을 이용한 시스템에서는 도서, 논문 등 서지 목록에 대한 정보만을 검색할 수 있다. 이에 따라 본 논문에서는 서지 정보 목록뿐만 아니라 이미지, 비디오(video)등 비 도서에 관한 정보를 효율적으로 검색하기 위해서 검색 대상에 필요한 속성 집합(Attribute Set)을 Z39.50 표준에 등록된 속성집합 Bib-1의 속성유형(Type)과 값(Value)을 기본으로 이미지, 비디오 자료를 제공하기 위한 속성 요소를 새롭게 추가하여 종합 정보 검색 서비스 기능을 수행토록 하였다.

As the rapid develoment of internet and information technology, the traditional library has been altered to the digital content service based on the world wide web. This paper proposes a design and implementation of an Artcle Union Catalog System(AUCS) based on metadata. The metadata set for the AUCS consists of twelve Dublin Core elements and one holdings element. The qualifiers of the proposed metadata elements are also represented. The AUCS system has an online cooperated cataloging system using the web interface or the 239.50 protocol, an union cataloging management system, and an integrated information retrieved system service. The integrated search and retrieval service of the AUCS displays not only the summary and detailed bibliographic information, but also the abstract, the table of contents, the digital content, and the copylfax service.
