Metadata Registry was developed to dynamically manage metadata and to increase interoperability between various and heterogeneous metadata. The built metadata registry can be used as a standard guideline for creation of new databases and it provides a radical data integration mechanism. However, in the situation that an enormous databases must be integrated progressively, there is a limit to the existing metadata-based approach. In case that each database has no statistical information for its use rate and the restricted cost is given to us for a unit time, existing metadata-based approaches do not provide how to select some databases to be preferentially integrated and to build a metadata registry progressively, In this paper, we propose a methodology that can create progressively metadata registries in the case. The proposed methodology is based on data visibility and hierarchical metadata registry. We also describe the system that have been developed for applying the methodology to a real domain, and then described its results.
Many metadata registry management systems have been developed, which are based on ISO/IEC ll179. However, they do not follow the international standard, ISO/IEC ll179 nor provide some of mandatory functions. It is difficult to a develop metadata registry management system for domestic environment because of their hidden implementations. The goals of this paper are to solve the problems of the existing systems and to develop a metadata registry management systems for accumulation of primitive technologies. This paper also shows the metadata registry building process for the science and technology information field using the developed system. This system consists of Metadata Registry Layer, Core Component Layer, Extension Layer, and Service Interface Layer. The developed metadata registry management system follows ISO/IEC ll179 and contains mandatory functions for practical use. Therefore, it can be used as a guideline for building metadata registries and a development process of metadata registry management systems. We can easily reuse its components for development of metadata registry management systems in various fields because the system is designed and implemented based on the component-based development methodology. It also decreases time and cost for developing systems.
Various metadata registries have been built in many countries of the world. Although the metadata registry is an international standard, it does not provide a consistent access interface for handling the metadata registries. Therefore, all systems for managing them were developed by using different operations and access interfaces. It requires duplicate efforts on the same operations whenever metadata registry systems are developed. As a result, it causes unnecessary costs and efforts for building metadata registries, and also incurs inconsistency between the metadata registries because the previous developed systems use the different interfaces for the metadata registry elements This paper analyzes and defines operation patterns that are commonly used for the metadata registries. We defined and designed SQL/MDR extended from SQL using the analyzed operation patterns. SQL/MDR provides a standardized access interface for developing metadata registry systems. This paper shows the implementation of SQL/MDR and the result that we actually applied it to the bibliographical databases. By developing the metadata registry systems using SQL/MDR, we can reduce much time and efforts owing to its standard interface. It allows metadata registries to be accessed consistently. Additionally, it makes all metadata registries follow the international standard, ISO/IEC ll179.

다양한 분야에서 ISO/IEC 11179를 기반으로 MDR(Metadata Registry)시스템들이 개발되었다. 이 논문에서는 앞서 언급한 SQL/MDR문제점 중에서 안전한 접근제어를 보장할 수 있는 방법으로 MCL(Metadata Control Language)을 제안한다.

ebXML is a global electronic business standard that is sponsored by UN/CEFACT and OASIS. ebXML is an open XML-based infrastructure enabling the global use of electronic business information in an interoperable, secure and consistent manner by all parties. ebXML Registry provides a stable store where the business information submitted by partners is made persistent and a set of registry services that enable clients of the Registry to access them. These services are tied to the structures defined in ebXML Registry Information Model(ebRIM), so we need a way to process them according to underlying database systems. In this paper, we present the result of developing the ebXML Registry Server based on Relational Database Systems.
The fundamental technology to the b2b e-commerce framework is Registry. Although Registries have developed, it is yet difficult to apply in actual e-business . That is, the e-business information was stored in physically and/or logically distributed and heterogeneous Registries. And Registry uses the keyword-based search to discovery the information stored. But, the keyword-based search technology can't provide the discovery the business information necessary for parties and trading partners. As spreading the understand of this problem, it requires the technologies for the integration of distributed and various Registries and the systematic definition and intelligent discovery of the e-business information. In this paper we propose the architecture of intelligent and integrated e-business registry system for solving these problems . This system composed of the Registry Integration Query Manager for integrating various registries and the Intelligent Registry Agent providing the systematic organization and discovery of e-business information.
This paper proposes an ontology population model based on ISO/IEC 11179. Much research has recently been done on harmonizing Web 2.0 and the Semantic Web, and the harmonization is defined as Web 3.0. The most important issues for realizing Web 3.0 include defining ontology schemas and populating instances for ontologies. To resolve the issue, Web ontology schemas should be precisely defined, and a method for populating Web ontology from Web resources should be developed. This paper proposes a Web ontology population model based on ISO/IEC 11179 - Metadata Registry (MDR), which is the international standard, developed to manage and use common standard concepts.
As the information-intensive society in 21c based on the environment of global internet is promoted, the software is getting more large and complex, and the demand for the software is increasing briskly. So, it becomes an important issue in academic and industrial field to activate reuse by developing and exchanging the standardized component. Currently, the information services as a product type of each company are provided in foreign market place for reusing a commercial component, but the components which are serviced in each market place are different, insufficient and unstandardized. That is, construction for Component Data Registry based on ISO 11179, is not accomplished. Hence, the national government has stepped up the plan for sending out public component at 2001. Therefore, the systems as a tool for sharing and exchange of data, have to support the meta-information of standardized component. In this paper, we will propose the C_MDR system: a tool to register and manage the standardized meta-information, based upon ISO 11179, for the commercialized common component. The purpose of this system is to systemically share and exchange the data in chain of acceleration of reusing the component. So, we will show the platform of specification for the component meta-information, then define the meta-information according to this platform, also represent the meta-information using XML for enhancing the interoperability of information with other system. Moreover, we will show that three-layered expression make modeling to be simple and understandable. The implementation of this system is to construct a prototype system of the component meta-information through the internet on www, this system uses ASP as a development language and RDBMS Oracle for PC. Thus, we may expect the standardization of the exchanged component metadata, and be able to apply to the exchanged reuse tool.
