A Study on Forced Aspirating Air Supplying Module for Micro Fuel Cell (마이크로 연료전지용 강제 호흡형 공기 공급 모듈에 관한 연구)

  • The present study conducts a series of experiments to develop a novel air supplying module for a micro fuel cell using piezoelectric linear actuator. An intermittently and operating air breathing module with reciprocating motion of the linear actuator has been suggested in the present study. A test bench for a micro fuel cell system has been constructed to estimate performance of the active fuel cell system using the air supplying module. With the stroke and operating duty as main control parameters, the optimal operating method of the air supplying module has been discussed.

  • In this paper, author proposes to a fuel cell generation system used to fire prevention installation at emergency. The proposed system is used with a power source of fire prevention installation in preparation for breaking of commercial power supply at emergency. A part of most power loss of the fuel cell generation system is power converter. And the major losses of power converter are switching losses of power semiconductor switches used to power conversion. This parer is designed with a high efficiency power converter of non isolated type in order to increase efficiency of fuel cell power system. The controlling switches used in power conversion system are operated with soft switching, which is applied to partial resonant method to reduce switching loss. The result is that the fuel cell power system gets to high efficiency. Some computer simulated results and experimental results are confirmed to the validity of the analytical results.

  • 본 논문에서는 여러 가지 과도현상 해석 프로그램 중 하나인 EMTP-RV시뮬레이터를 이용하여 태양전지와 연료전지에 의해 각각 발생되어진 에너지원을 공통의 DC-BUS에 연계하여 운전하는 마이크로 소스와 마이크로그리드를 모델링하였다. 또한 사례 연구를 통해 마이크 로그리드의 운전형태와 부하변동에 따른 마이크로소스의 동특성을 분석하였다.

  • Electrochemical hydrogenation/dehydrogenation properties were studied for a single particle of a Mm-based(Mm : minh metal) hydrogen storage alloy($MmNi_{3.55}Co_{0.75}Mn_{0.4}Al_{0.3}$) for fuel cell and Ni-MH batteries. A carbon fiber microelectrode was manipulated to make electrical contact with an alloy particle, and the potential-step experiment was carried out to determine the apparent chemical diffusion coefficient of hydrogen atom($D_{app}$) in the alloy. Since the alloy particle we used here was a dense, conductive sphere, the spherical diffusion model was employed for data analysis. $D_{app}$ was found to vary the order between $10^{-9}\;and\;10^{-10}[cm^2/s]$ over the course of hydrogenation and dehydrogenation process. Compared with the conventional composite film electrodes, the single particle measurements using the microelectrode gave more detailed, true information about the hydrogen storage alloy.

  • Screen printing it one of the most popular methods for the fabrication of catalytic layer in electrode of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) due to its convenience and adaptability. This paper suggests an improved screen-printing method, which is rather simple suppressing the swelling trouble without additive process and competitive with very low Pt loading in comparison with the previous methods. Particularly, the gasket unified MEA made better performances than the other especially at high current area due to blocking effect on the gas leakage during the operation. These methods give us more simplified and faster fabrication chances.

  • This study is to increase the surface area and maximize the effect of the catalyst by coating a nanometersized metal catalyst material on the anode layer using atomic layer deposition (ALD) technology. ALD process is known to produce uniform films with well-controlled thickness at the atomic level on substrates. We measured the performance by coating metals (Ni) on Ni/YSZ, which is the most widely known anode material for solid oxide fuel cells. ALD coatings began to show a decrease in cell performance over 3 nm coatings.

  • The performance of fuel cell electrode depends on the characteristics of the catalyst support material. This paper deals with the use of CNF(carbon nanofibre) and CNT(carbon nanotube) as platinum catalyst support. The CNF and CNT were synthesized with catalyst treated by mechanochemical process and were prepared by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. The platinum supported on CNF and CNT for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) application. In result, the best I-V characteristic was verified by the prepared MEA(membrane electrode assembly) from twisted CNF that had a diameter of 65 nm.

  • To investigate the characteristics of water droplet on the gas diffusion layer from both upper-view and side-view of flow channel, a rig test apparatus was designed and fabricated with L-shape acryl plate in a $1mm{\times}1mm$ micro-channel. This experimental device is used to simulate the single droplet growth and its transport process under fuel cell operating condition. As a first step, we investigated the growth and transport of single water droplet with working temperature and air flow velocity. The contact angle and its hysteresis of water droplet at departing moment are measured and analyzed. It is expected that this study can provide the basic understanding of liquid water droplet behavior in gas flow channel and GDL interface during the PEM fuel cell operation.
