  • 최근에 전세계적으로 THz 대역에 관한 연구가 점차 늘고 있는 추세에 있다. THz 대역에서의 연구는 아직까지는 기초적인 학문으로서의 성격이 강하지만 최근의 연구동향을 보면 점차 응용기술으로서의 중요성도 함께 강조되고 있는 경향을 보이고 있다 THz파 대역은 전통적인 광학과 마이크로파 대역의 중간에 위치하고 있으며 우리가 흔히 말하는 빛과 전자기파의 성질을 모두 가지고 있기 때문에 매우 흥미로운 연구대상이라고 할 수 있으며 상대적으로 연구가 거의 되어 있지 않은 마지막 주파수 대역이라고 할 수 있다. (중략)

Narrowband Modulation Response Enhancement Using a Dual-Electrode Distributed Feedback Laser Integrated With an Electro-Absorption Modulator (전계 흡수 변조기가 집적된 다중 전극 분포 궤환형 레이저를 이용한 광신호의 협대역 변조 응답 향상)

  • We present the enhancement of narrowband modulation response of an optical source by integrating a dual-electrode distributed feedback (DFB) laser with an electro-absorption modulator (EAM). The dual-electrode DFB laser exhibits a multiple optical modes owing to a self-pulsation in GHz range. By modulating the laser and modulator sections of the integrated device simultaneously, 20-dB of narrowband modulation response enhancement at 6 GHz with 7-GHz tuning range has been observed.

  • In this paper, a photonic-based microwave system technology is described, and a traveling-wave electro-optic modulator is designed and manufactured as a key component. The fabricated modulator is composed of a metal diffusion waveguide for optical transmission and a planar waveguide electrode on lithium niobate substrate for microwave transmission. The electro-optic response bandwidth of I and Q channels in a fabricated dual parallel Mach-Zehnder modulator were measured for 27.67 and 28.11 GHz, respectively. Photonic four times up-converted X-band frequency and linear frequency modulated signal were confirmed using the fabricated electro-optic modulator by S-band input signal. The confirmed broadband signal can be applied to a microwave system for surveillance and high-resolution ISAR imaging.
