  • The multi-layered and compartmented hydrogel was designed to examine the self-transforming for developing a 4D mask pack. The hydrogel consisting of two layers with different expansion ratios were fabricated to have specific curvature by self-folding assembly. In addition, the hydrogel compartmented with three different geometries was designed by varying of expansion ratios. The compartmented hydrogel with 0.03, 0. $0,03mm^{-1}$ of curvatures at room temperature was self-transformed with 1.33, 0, $1.33mm^{-1}$of curvatures at $37^{\circ}C$, enhancing the facial adhesion. Overall, this new strategy to prepare the multi-layered and compartmented hydrogel would be actively used in developing the 4D mask pack to self-transform by each facial curvature.

  • This is a study on characteristics according to the material of sheet-type mask packs being sold on the market. The absorption capacities of water soluble components such as purified water, 1.3-propanediol, 1.3-butylene glycol, glycerine, and hyaluronic acid are compared with that of various oils including cyclomethicone, dimethicone, phytosqualane, caprylic capryl triglyceride, grape seed oil, and macadamia nut oil. As a result, all of the water soluble components except purified water showed higher moisture absorption capacity as the viscosity increased. And in case of oil, all oil showed higher oil absorption capacity according to the viscosity. During this test, the mask sheets with the type of acetic acid fermented bio-cellulose showed 500~1,000 times or more absorption capacity on water soluble wetting agent or all oils, which is due to the fine mesh structure seen in the 5,000x enlarged photograph at surface structure. This mesh structure was well recognized on the cross section and these structural features enhance the absorption capacity of water and oil. It is also believed that largely contained water-soluble components and oils facilitate the discharge over time. In addition, since each mask sheet shows their characteristics according to their material, it is intended to be a basic research for manufacturing mask packs good for skin.

  • This study aims to analyze the physical properties of non-woven fabric sheets, which continue to grow in the cosmetic market. Non-woven fabric sheets were used as specimens, and a total of 17 samples were analyzed. To evaluate the physical properties of the non-woven fabric sheet, the weight, tensile strength, surface properties, free swell absorption, and wet stiffness were tested. Through the results itw was determined that non-woven fabric sheets for mask packs should be manufactured considering fiber arrangement so that the weight is 40 g/m2, and the tensile strength should be maintained near 12 kgf. In addition, it was confirmed that the material selection and process conditions should be adjusted so that the free swell absorption is at least 8 g/g, and the wet stiffness is 200 mg. Therefore, since the non-woven fabrics for the mask sheets can be used in various products depending on fabric composition, this study will be expected to be basic data for the continuous growth of the sheet-type mask packs coming to market.

  • The purpose of this study is to figure out the information needed to improve the shape and size suitability of face-applied mask sheets. The study analyzed the shape of the mask sheet from the scanned images of 50 products of 37 domestic brands. In addition, each measurement of 42 mask sheets were compared and analyzed multilaterally with the 3D measurement dimensions of the faces of men and women in their 20s from the 6th SizeKorea data. Analysis on the shapes of mask sheets indicated that domestic commercial mask sheets are mainly made of single or dual sheets, with slits for enhancing fitness to the three-dimensional face. In the dimensional analysis of Korean men, women and mask sheets, most of the lengths of the mask sheets were significantly larger or smaller than the actual faces of men and women. The horizontal length and vertical length of the forehead above the eyes are significantly shorter, thereby requiring adjustments in the dimensions of this area. In order to improve the size suitability of the mask, it is necessary to adjust the dimensions of the problem area according to the research results as well as diversify the dimensions considering the target layer.
