  • The objective of this study was to develop an advanced pump technology using tornado and axial pumping principles without priming water. The developed rotor type slurry pump consisted of an electric motor, driving shaft and coupling, a rotor, an impeller, suction and discharge pipes. For the clean water test, the experimental results are presented for the discharge flowrate, electric power input and vacuum pressure with the rotor design parameters as a function of the motor rpm. The slurry discharge characteristics with the solid concentration of the cement slurry was performed. As the rotor diameter and height increase, the discharge flowrate and electric power input increase while the vacuum pressure in the suction pipe decreases. The rotor thickness had no significant effect on the discharge flowrate and electric power input. Slurries with more than 18 % solid concentration, which is the development factor, can be pumped.

  • Performance test of the 75ton class turbopump turbine was performed. Using the measured turbine power characteristics in the wide-range operational conditions, variations of nozzle velocity ratio, total pressure loss, and relative flow angle to the pressure ratios and rotational speeds are quantified. Efficiency and nozzle exit pressure behavior was also investigated and compared with 30ton turbopump turbine data. A rotor blade was redesigned based on the test results and CFD analysis.

  • Smart UAV, which adopting tiltrotor aircraft concept, requires vertical take-off and landing, long endurance and high speed capability. These contradictable flight performances are hard to meet unless the operation of flap system which should reveal optimal performance for each flight mode. In order to design SUAV flaperon satisfying the three performance requirements, various configurations are generated and their aerodynamic performances are analyzed using numerical flow computations around flap systems. Considering aerodynamic performance and structural simplicity, a final flap configuration is selected and the performance is validated through the wind tunnel testing for 40% scale model.

  • In this paper, an efficient modeling method of Horizontal-Axis Wind Turbine(HAWT) system is proposed. This method Is based on representing a HAWT system as a multi-body system with several rigid bodies i.e. rotor blade, low/high speed shaft, gear system, md generator. Also, simulation software WINSIM is developed to evaluate performance of wind turbine system. Simulation results show that the proposed modeling method and simulation software are efficient and reliable.

  • A numerical simulation is performed to study the ground effect of a rotating rotor blade on a whirl tower using unstructured overset mesh. The aerodynamic change of the rotor blade by the structure around the whirl tower is also considered. The calculated results showed good agreement with the experiment for the hover performance. The ground effect of the rotor blade is investigated by comparing with the calculated results for the out of ground condition and the results of an analytic model.

  • This study aims at the optimal design of the screw rotor and its performance analysis. The optimal design of the screw rotor's shape has been performed theoretically. Also, the performance analysis technique of an oil-injected screw air compressor is developed. The effect of internal leakage, heat exchange between air and oil, and flow resistance at suction and discharge ports are included in the performance analysis. Some numerical examples of the volumetric efficiency and adiabatic efficiency for sample rotors are demonstrated for various lobe combination, rotor wrap angles and L/D ratios.
